It's been a long time coming, but finally we have extracted and collated the information on a total of over 600 submissions for QSCs from GOTM 21 in July 2003 up to GOTM 35 and COTM 4 last month.

Here is the QSC Results Page, giving scoring, starting position maps (thanks Dianthus!), and detailed breakdowns for all these games.

Having caught up on the backlog and built the support systems, we now intend to publish the QSC results alongside the full results for each game. I am sure this will prompt more players to submit their 1000 BC save files and timelines for future games as a useful way to compare development strategies.

We hope the data is presented in a way that will enable you to identify the differences of approach to the early game by the players. I have no doubt you will all have lots of comments and preferences for alternative presentations of the information, and we shall, of course, look forward to seeing, and responding to, your constructive suggestions.

Alan, that is impressive. You guys (the staff) are absolutely amazing!

:thanx:  :band:

That is all I am going to post for now because I have to go back and look more. If fact I will probably be looking at all the stats for a ridiculously long time. Bye bye now.

This is really great information Alan, I have no idea how you do it, but I realise its as much to do with your skill as your hard work.

Do you get the data automatically from the save file, or are you reading these timelines too. I guess the only reason I have not submitted QSC files for a while, is that my timelines are a joke. Should we submit even if we have no timeline.

Any interest in some of my old 1000BC saves that I still have, if that helps to give more comparisons on the games that got few games uploaded.

:goodjob:
I did not exist (in CFC, of course) at those times when QSC results used to be published.
The chance to participate in this now is intriguing. There is no problem to submit 1000BC save, it is zero work.
Timelines scare me, though (:hatsoff: for those who makes them). Is there any utilite that helps to write it? Or, at least a general format or guidence?

Great stuff and great job compiling it.

Well, spiderzord started writing one....

Dianthus' suite includes a tab for QSC scores, and it also has a tracker of sorts for turn-to-turn changes. You could bug him to add a "notes" section (Assuming he hasn't done that already :hmm: )

 :hatsoff: Another excellent job Alan!! :salute:

It is very easy to understand and we can pull the timelines and saves we would like to review right off the chart. This is exactly what was needed.

Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU!! :worship:

Dianthus@ - :bug: :bug: :bug: :bounce: :bounce: :bribe: :bribe: :bribe:

Ainwood@ - what about civassist?

Well, CivAssist is getting a major-overhaul (more about that later, its not for this thread ;)), so we may see QSC support added, but in the mean-time I think Dianthus' tool is better for it. :)

I think that classes of players are shown improperly. It is always a single color for all players.
:hmm: Looks like an oversight - Alan has been working his "programmer" hours on this, and the rest of us were providing the second pair of eyes / QA/QC functionallity, and it looks like we failed him. :(

I'm sure it will be a fairly simple thing for him to fix. :)

Indeed, it does look like a forgotten closing mark or something like that. So that everybody gets the color of the first player. A syntax error.

Great work.

A big :hatsoff: to you all.

Are the timelines gonna be required or give score bonus again now ?

the way i see the graph, units provide most of the score.
I don't know what the graph should picture, but in order to determine who has done best, i think workers + population are by far the most important factor, if not the only factor. Workers espescially.

Major thanks to the GOTM staff, this is agreat accomplishment that will help all to improve their start games and learn....

@solenoozerec on write utility:

I developed an excel sheet to keep track of movements and actions. If somebody tells me how to download things I can post it...

I would just like to add my thanks and congratulations to the staff who have put more effort into this than anyone could possibly imagine.

The QSC was the way I learned to play CIV, and performance in the first 80 turns pretty much dictates the rest of the game. I think that the QSC is a very valuable part of the GOTM event and I am delighted to see it back.

Good job guys.

This is fantastic! :goodjob: :goodjob: I had given up all hope after submitting loads of qsc reports, and it is remarkable how many players continued. The QSC has been sorely missed for a long time. I suspect many players now never had the pleasure of having their start rated 'lite' by Cracker et al. I don't suppose anything like Cracker's great analyses are planned as well?

Would it be possible to include another column to show the final score or positions of the players?

Sure. Send them to me at gotm_submit at gotm.civfanatics.net. Tell me the game or incude it it the file name. But please include a timeline as well.

No we don't extract any of the displayed information from the timeline. It's all done from the saves using a magic utility created by Ainwood. He's worked progrmmer hours on this too!

Re timelines: Yes, they are mandatory. Your submission will fail if you don't upload am accompanying file.

Thanks for pointing out the class color thing. I don't know where that got lost, but it's restored now.

Obviously I haven't eyeballed and checked every number in every table. Please let me know if you spot any discrepencies.

Gotta run ;)

This is FANTASTIC!
:thanx:

All I've got to do now is find some time to read them :D

On the subject of timelines, I just have word running in the background and type the moves as they happen. If anyone has a superior way than this I would be very interested to hear about it.

Fantastic. Now let the scoring debates begin again .... :mischief: Great job!
