As far as Hinduism is concerned , the belief is there is no one single path to salvation and multiple paths are possible . This is the reason Hinduism is not a proselyting religion . Since other paths can also lead to salvation , there was no point in converting others to Hinduism . As a result Hinduism hasn't spread beyond the Indian subcontinent .
Hinduism also survived various conquests from Islamic invaders to European invaders as it was a malleable religion assimilating content from new cultures . When Buddhism was spreading like wildfire in India, Hindus accepted Buddha as one of the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu allowing it to control its spread .
