Questions about The BUG Mod

Wait, so this is working for you? I thought it was still broken when you start a new game. For sure the path should point to wherever your CivilizationIV.ini file is located. This is where the Saves folder is, too.

I've amended the pink bit...Hmmm pink bits....aaarrrgggghhhhh....errrr I've amended the Pink text to :-

rootDir = "C:/Program Files/Firaxis Games/Sid Meier's Civilization 4/Beyond the Sword"

This removes that screen I showed with the garbage all over it.

Only problem now, apart from me, is;

1) Won't load a saved game, have to start new game, once loaded up and running, load the saved game.
2) Still get the path error, looked at the System config tab in Bug 4.3, in game, and it still points to

C:\users\brian\My documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword.

Correct path is C:\home\brian\My Games\Beyond the Sword

It works with C:\home..don't ask me why, it just does.

How do I amend this path?? The configuration options for the Bug Mod 4.3

Note never posted this before, apart from here.

This is the Only Error, probably affecting the saved game loading, :dunno:

And if you change that to

Code:
rootDir = "C:/home/brian/My Games/Beyond the Sword"

what happens? BTW, can you please follow the instructions in the Troubleshooting page linked in my sig and post PythonErr.log and PythonDbg.log after trying to load a game?

That's the Original path I had in the Pink text, reported over page. It gave the Garbage out put. But still able to load saved game Via a new game method. ie start new game, have opening round (6000 BC) Load Saved game.

I'll run both versions, and out put the PythonErr.log and the PythonDbg.log to your link on signiture.

Oppp's FORWARD SLASHES... :blush: I'll try that as well. Though I think that's what I had??? but maybe not..Follow instructions.

Follow instructions.
I was told that men have a very hard time with that. I can't count the number of times that my ex-roommate would toss the instruction book and put something together wrong. :D

As any good woman would, I mocked him mercilessly.

Do you have a wife/GF? Does she know about your post? May I speak to her? :lol: :p

(I hope that it worked out for you, I just had to tickle your ribs a bit. ;) )

So all followers know

1) The My Documents part of Civilization 4.ini path DOESN'T EXIST under Ubuntu. It needs to be edited out. Hence the "Error error error.." in red text on picture.
2) I'm sulking, so no response to Lemon Merchant, a real Sour puss. (Just call me Oscar)
3) Bug, Bat all have excellent support from Modders, and I am most grateful.

Excellently written Mod, 4.3, from what I can tell. Even I, with Limited programming experience can glean some sort of reason out of it.

As such, I've had a look into the program, and from what I can see, the paths correct.

BUT...Hmm big butt's...errr....but its not displaying this path for the Civilization 4.ini file.

As I read it, and understand, it should say, what I've amended the pink text too.

Tried something else, matchs what Bug's asking...but...no go. :ar15: :banana:

So now I don't feel so bad, about asking about it. Excellent program/mod to the game.

Thankyou Bug Team, Bat team and all involved.

Well this is embarrassing, I have a slight amendment to my earlier posting on the CivAltRoot.py path way's.

1st step- Windows XP emulation is assumed, alter for other operating software accordingly.

Windows XP pathway: “C:/users/(user name)/My Documents/My Games/Beyond the Sword”.

2nd Step- Alter the Rootdir text at the base of this file, the PINK TEXT to read, (just over write)

Rootdir = “C:/users/(user name)/My Documents/My Games/Beyond the Sword”

Really its the same pathway to the Civilization4.ini file, its just the way Windows handles it.

Under Ubuntu, there are 2 pathway's to this file, this will eliminate the error message that Bug (Version you have) can't find the Civilization4.ini file.

It still works without this, but best to fix totally. Never know what else may go wrong.

Q. How do I know this actually works, you've gotten it wrong before, so it seems.
A. Till YOU stop sniping from the balcony, and come on the stage to preform, you'll be forever dancing to my Tune, my little puppet.

If you care to Look into Ubuntu's directories, You'll find this under Drive_C for C:/ Full directory is
/(root)/home/(user name)/.wine/drive_c/users/(user name)/My Documents/My Games/Beyond the Sword.

Just abbreviate down to C:/ as its Emulating Windows directories.

Hello BUG fanatics, I have a doubt: While playing HoF games with BUFFY mod I have notice I have some more options for my units like healing while sentry, which is useful to alert me when i have an enemy around a damaged unit. But in BUG I cannot see these options, is there a way to turn them on? I thought BUG was more complete than BUFFY.

Another question is about culturally linked start, I saw a mod to include this option in the custom game menu, is it also in BUG? I think that would make a great add! also to be able to use more than 18 civs and larger maps would be great!

thanks, i am a big fan of your mod, I don't remember when was the last time i played Civ without using BUG or BUFFY

cheers! :goodjob:

That is part of BULL. BUFFY includes BUG, BULL and some HOF stuff.

It is not in BUG.

To expand, you can install BULL along with BUG together. Assuming you have BUG installed in the CustomAssets folder (single-player mode), you put the BULL Assets into the same folder and BULL's DLL where the original BTS DLL goes (rename the original first!).

Alrigtht, thanks for the advice. I will install BULL also, because it has happened me a couple of times while playing with BUFFY that the game crashes.

gracias :)

I would like to add the BULL mod to my game but I'm having trouble. When I follow the "CustomAssets" instructions I get a crash to desktop on load. When I follow the "As a Mod" instructions I can load BUG+BTS fine but when I select BULL from the Load a MOD option I get another crash to desktop. I have two different icons to start the game (1 with BUG, one without) and have not tried the vanilla game with BULL mod but I suspect the results would be a similar crash.

I have BUG 4.4 installed and working. I used the self-extracting exe long ago (I think back in April 09??) and don't remember what options I selected during the install process. I use XP64bit. In mydoc/mygames/BTS I have a file named "BUG Mod", a "CustomAssets" folder which has config options like "BUG City Screen.xml" (6kb file) and a completely empty "MOD" file. There are two CustomAssets files that were renamed...one tagged as renammed(empty)...the other as removed(has files). I'm not sure if the installer made the copies or if I did that in an BUG install attempt before the 4.4 exe was available.

Since I can't seem to get BULL working with these steps I'm considering trying to uninstall BUG and then apply the combined BUFFY mod. Because of all the tagged files, crash, and my general difficulty getting the BUG mod installed in the first place I'm concerned that uninstalling BUG will be problematic.

I'm just looking for the path of least resistance. I prefer having the highest compatibility with forum games. I'm assuming that both mods can be loaded at one time with some lines in an .ini, if not I'd prefer as few steps as possible in getting them loaded and in game.

Help appreciated!

I replaced coregameciv4.dll as per the "custom asset" instructions. Doing this causes Crash to desktop immediately after loading fonts status bar finishes.

Simple solution, I think, is to install and have all load by default.

Use the Option, single player I think, the 1st install option, for when you may be playing forum games with others who MAY NOT :confused: have the mods installed.

Its what I use, under Ubuntu, never had a compatibility problem with other players, just my playing style..hahahahhaha.

For Hall of Fame of Game of the month, use Buffy, its what's its for.

Bat, you'll all need the same version of Bat to run game. Bug works fine, I've loaded games with and without Bug, due to various things I do. Different versions of Bug as well.

Make sure the CoreGameCiv4.dll is in the correct folder when you replace it.

Correct location, Thanks Emperor Fool

Nope. Everything I do seems to crash to desktop. I think I'm at the point where I uninstall CiV4 and reinstall if I want this to work. This is frustrating and I'm not sure I have the CD's or the patience to reinstall all the expansions and patches just to get a mod working properly.

When BUG installed the installer created a BUG mod icon that lets me load BTS with that mod active. I still have the standard BTS icon from before loading BUG. Both icons load the game as expected. Both icons produce a crash to desktop if I do anything other than start a new game or load a current game.

I'm not sure what you mean by load by default. There was no option for BULL or BUFFY when I tried them. Are you suggesting I load BUG on top of the already working BUG mod?

just a small question - have you patched to 3.19 and are you using BtS?
