Questions about The BUG Mod

@Brian Shanahan - This is in the FAQ.

@ EmperorFool, "I see, says the blind man". Thanks for that, now I hope I dont nix my ini files with my amazing power of breakage. P.S. I really like the mod so thanks.

I have a problem using any other mod with the Bug mod installed, I have BUG 4.2.
Basically when I load up a mod like the Mesoamerica one, I have no control interface, and cannot find any way to bring it up, any help would be appreciated, and sorry if this is a question posed before but at 1:30a.m. GMT I'm a bit tired to search.
You will need to edit the Mesoamerica.ini file and tell it to ignore customassets (IIRC customassets = 1).

Typically, other mods changed the save files that the BUG mod changes and they don't play nice together.

You have the DLL installed correctly, but not the Assets. There is a folder in the ZIP called Assets with Art, Res, and Xml subfolders. These must be place where you installed BUG (either CustomAssets or "Mods/BUG Mod 4.2/Assets").

What have I done wrong?

I just extracted the Bull folder to desktop and dropped the Assets folder into the Custom Assets folder. Is this where I messed up? Thanks

I think that should read "... dropped the contents of the Assets folder into the Custom Assets folder."

... and CustomAssets should not be inside Assets.

I may be reading your folder structure incorrectly, but ...

You only need one set of Assets. If you have an assets folder inside a CustomAssets folder inside an assets folder then you have two levels of assets too many.

This should be your folder structure:

Code:
My Games/
  Beyond the Sword/
    CustomAssets/
      Art/
      Python/
      Res/
      XML/

The BTS folder will also have the BUG Mod folder, but I am showing it here separately to avoid confusion.

Code:
My Games/
  Beyond the Sword/
    BUG Mod/
      Info/
      UserSettings/

Thank you! Think I finally got it right. Started a game went into world builder added a barbarian warrior no pink bars in advanced combat odds.

Is the BULL DLL still based off the unofficial 3.19 patch per the FAQ? Is there a version based off the official 3.19 DLL?

if its based off the unofficial one its probably b/c the unofficial one has extra things added to enhance gameplay that many people wanted in the official version but were not put in

Yes, though it's an older (0.9) version of the unofficial patch. I need to updated it soon.

Is there a version based off the official 3.19 DLL?

The unofficial patch 3.19 is based off of the official 3.19 patch. Note that the UP is a patch to the patch; it's not a replacement to be used instead of the official patch.

I can't find a changelog for the unofficial patch as far back as 0.9. It starts at 1.0. Are there just bug fixes, or changes to gameplay? The changelogs I did find seemed like it didn't change the game rules at all (which is what I'm looking for).

For now I have BULL 1.0 and BUG 4.2 up and running. The only sticky point is CustomDomAdv.txt for the custom domestic advisor settings. I have my version of the file which I'm pretty sure is from BUG 4.1 (but I can't be certain). I ran a diff between mine and the default BUG 4.2 version and they are quite different - too many differences to just simply be my modifications, I think. Is there any "nice" way to merge my CustomDomAdv.txt from an older version of BUG, or is it safer to rebuild?

The last time that the file CustDomAdv.txt was changed in BUG was just over a year ago. Use the version you already have as-is. I'll have to test the installer to see why it's not creating the folder and installing the files for CDA. Did you create your own UserSettings folder? If so, just find your old folder and copy the CustDomAdv folder into it.

The installer is fine. It created a default CustDomAdv.txt as expected. It looked like the format of this file had changed so I was weary to simply replace it with my own old file. I'll use my old file and give it a whirl. Thanks for the confirmation.

EDIT: Looks like we're good to go.

Does the path to your BtS folder (There are also two BtS folders, for a standard install of BUG the My Games path is where BUG is installed) contain any non Roman characters. Russian letters seems to be one of the most frequent causes of this.
