When viewing a single civ, what does favourite and shunned goverment mean? I understand the fact that they were actually ruled under their favourite goverment in the height of their power, but what effects does that have on the game? Or is it for expansion packs?

Also, I'm playing a game with the Egyptians and believe I may have set off the palace architecture. What is the Egyptians' architecture? It was Greco-Roman when the question came up, and I'd had enough of that architecture while playing with Greece and Rome, so I changed it to Middle-Eastern. I doubt that is the correct style, but it looks more Egyptian.

It's an attitude thing.
bamspeedy made an article about it, read it.
In his AI attitude article thing, it explains most of it.
It has no efect on production.

And the Architecture is based on culture groups, and they aren't gonna waste time on doing 32 different styles

To put it simply, if you are in the AI's "shunned" government, and it is not, the it will have a slight negative effect on its attitude toward you.

If you are in the AI's "favorite" government, it will have a slightly improved attitude toward you.

It was originally supposed to have much greater significance, but IIRC the testers said it was too unbalancing, so it was watered down for release.

Read Bamspeedy's AI Attitude Thread

Here's a quote from the thread:

AI’s favorite/shunned governments:
-5 Favorite government (only applies if both you and the AI are in this government)
+4 Shunned government (only applies if you are in this government and the AI is not)

Just what Padma says. :)

Wow, that was a higher bonus that I thought. Is that why even some high-aggression civs are polite when you meet them early on?

Oh. I thought that maybe the favoured government was the government that worked better with that civ. But now I understand that it has nothing to do with your peoples' attitudes, but rather the rival civs. Got it. Simple Sam. :)
