Questions & Answers

So here is a question of great sages....

I have been in a war with Vikings (as Arabia). I sue for peace, paying 200 for the right. Immediately start trade with Ragnar. Next turn, they declare war on me again! How could this happen?

Im pissed off man. I was playing with Japan on Monarch (BtS), I was leading in research. But I was always unstable/shaky/collapsing/civil war and cities were constantly claiming independence. The Economy indicator doesn't move form 2 stars. The rest of the ratings were at 3. I was researching at 70 % and always was at surplus in gold. Markets, grocers, banks had em all. I dont know How to improve this damn economy rating which eventually brought my country to civil war at about year 1700.

Explanation, assistance, tips ?

I had 5 cities on Japanese mainland, one in Taiwan, and Satsuma on the Philipines. Civics were; Hereditary Rule, Vassalage, Slavery, open markets, free religion.

And this is my second try with Japan, just started, 4 cities on the mainland, vassalage, slavery and hereditary rule, nothing for religion and expansion.

WTH ? :(

Just got BTS and started playing your mod there. few questions.
Why isn't it possible to directly build cities on jungle?
When I build a mine on a jungle hill, it won't remove the jungle, but when building a plantage in the jungle it will remove the jungle, this is intended?
What about marshes? will they ever become ussuable? Will I be able to drain it with the apropiate tech?
And finaly, how many times do I need to kill a civ, before they stop popping up again and again?

All those things are meant to be like that. I think it's to keep regions that historically weren't cultivated until recent centuries like that in the mod. But you're still allowed to use the resources because these are important to pre-modern eras. Marshes can never be drained.

Extinct civs will not resurface if your stability is solid or better... I think

And finaly, how many times do I need to kill a civ, before they stop popping up again and again?

Have you captured all of the aforemeitoned civ cities, yet their units keep on appearing? Or has it just simply declared independence?

I've killed the incas, the moment they appeared. (took their cities and destroyed all units) But they keep on reappearing. (about 7 times now) first with settlers, but later only military units of them reappeared. The stability of my empire was solid or better.
Shouldn't holland be coverd with forest, (I would mention marshes too, but they can't be drained) At the time the dutch appear, holland consited of forests and marshes mainly. Open grasland was sparse in that time. Like in the rest of the netherlands.

That's to give them a high chance of spawning. As a general rule of thumb, do not declare war on such newborn civs 10 turns or so after the moment of their appearance.

I assume you are playing the Mayans?

How exactly does Apostolic Palace work? I have built it, but have never had the ability to pass any resolutions.

thanks

yes, i am arabia, and my state religion is Islam.

Do any other civs have Islam in their cities?

Yes, Turks and Mali. Eventurally I was able to get a few things like open borders or stop a war.

Guess I didn't wait long enough.

The difficulties don't mean as much as the nation you choose. I for myself play and have always played Monarch. Just think those as Almost Medium, Medium and Slightly Above Medium. England is Easy and Carthage is Are You Sure You Want To Try This? :D

If you play something below Noble in regular Civ, I'd recommend Viceroy. If you play Monarch in regular, you may try Monarch in this too. But remember, nations alter the difficulty level much more than the actual level.

To hell w/ that. I want to play Noble or Prince. Viceroy is way too easy and Monarch makes it near-impossible to complete several of the goals. Is there any way I can edit the scenario to add some additional difficulty levels?
