Questions & Answers

Sorry if someone asked this already (no time to sift through all the posts) but what are those little blue and red icons next to the list of contacted civs and scores? And what's the difference between flat, u shaped, and n shaped?

Also, post #420 :groucho:

I unzipped the Mod into my Mod's folder and now RFC1975 shows up in my Mods list under the "Advanced" selection. When I select it, it states that it must restart Civ IV, which it does. When it reloads, I can see it releading the Python etc. for "RFC1975". BUT...when I go to Single Player, Scenarios, there is no selection available for RFC. What can I do?:(

you must extract the content of the zip into the mods folder

I've only starting playing RFC last night (wanted to try out the BTS epic game first), but I have a couple of quick questions.

The first question is purely cosmetic. I'm playing as Egypt, and noticed there is an independent town nearby where Judaism gets founded. Now I can't possibly spell out the name without having it in front of me, but it sounds very similar to Jerusalem. I love that city names are accurate based on their location, but do they evolve over time to more modern names? I don't know if it's even possible to force a city name change, but it would really add to the feel if names evolved. I've already noticed that the leader for the Greeks somehow switched from Pericles to Alexander. Now, I can't tell what year it is to see if that's historically accurate (no Calendar yet), but that's a really nice touch.

My second question is related more to gameplay mechanics and balance. I built the Stonehenge in my game, and it gives access to all labour civics. I'm using Caste System because I'm going for the UHV, but it gives access to Emancipation as well. I could conceivably switch to Emancipation and cause unhappiness to all my neighbours (Greece, Rome, Babylon, Ethiopia, Carthage). Would it be unbalancing for me to do this? I'm not sure how much unhappiness results from not having Emancipation though, I think I've seen up to 5 unhappiness in a stock BTS game. I haven't tried it, but will it cripple the AI? Has anyone ever tested this?

And Rhye, I only bought Civ4 two weeks ago and played one night of RFC so far, but your mod is great! I love it even more that RoCX for C3C (which I played to death).

How often is it possible to change your civ in a game? Can you just change the civ one time? I started with Egypt, then changed to Greece. But there was no changing-option when Rome spawned. Thanks for some help.

I know I asked this before, but I'm not getting any answers...

Ok so then which one is stable and which is unstable?

Shouldn't holland be coverd with forest, (I would mention marshes too, but they can't be drained) At the time the dutch appear, holland consited of forests and marshes mainly. Open grasland was sparse in that time. Like in the rest of the netherlands.

If you look at climate maps, Eastern USA and all of Europe not on the Med coast should start as forest rather than grassland, and then must be cleared by human activity. Also, my understanding is that classical agricultural technology was not up to the task of farming Northern Europe.

I used to mod maps for Civ2 and Civ3 to make the start reflect a more virgin terrain. That, along with putting tons of barbarians in the steppes and other nomadic areas, prevented the civs that were near those open areas from having a huge advantage over the other European civs that were huddled together around the Med. For example, the Germans had to clear a lot of forest, while the Russians were under constant barbarian pressure, so expansion was no walk in the park.

I started a game as Portugal (600BC, BTS-Version) and played till 1733 without changing my civ a single time. But I couldn't change to America, there also was no "new civ message". I remember I could change to America in another game started with England. Any ideas?

You need to download this file:

If you wondered why America isn't playable in 600 AD start and all modern civs aren't in the 3000 BC one, the official reason is that a civ whose loading time is > 15 minutes shouldn't be offered as option in a official release.

Fortunately unlocking those civs is very easy.
You can edit the WBS yourself or use the ones here:

Something that just occured to me- how powerful is the average computer running Rhye's? I don't want to start a mini-poll in the topic, but my Athlon64 3000 is chugging along by the time the 1500's are reached. Is there anything I can do on my end to reduce the load on the game and speed things up a bit?

thank you very much.

City names evolve based on the owner, and sometimes on the leader (Caricyn -> Stalingrad)
As for the other question...yes, probably

there already was a pool like that; I've got a 2yo PC similar to yours and its quite slow as well. We're probably below the average

I'm sorry if this question had already been answered, but is there a version for Warlords & BtS together? Thanks.
