Questions & Answers

Definitely XP. Among its other problems (like lack of drivers), Vista is a memory hog, and the amount of free memory is one of the most important factors that influence Civ4's performance.

Actually, I think the best OS for Civ4 is Windows 2000, because Win2000 has an even smaller memory footprint than XP.

Can't wait for BTS. Rhye, with the 600AD start in BTS, will the civs that usually start before 600AD (ie Rome, Babylon, etc) start with one city in the yr 600AD or a fully developed empire like they would if you start with the vikings in the current Warlords version?

Is there a way to load RFC without first loading Warlords and then going to "Load a Mod"?

You can do a shortcut too :). Paste a copy of the Warlords shortcut in the desktop, click with the right button of the mouse in the shortcut and in the part of destination add this: mod="Mods\Rhye's and Fall of Civilization". With the quotation marks.

In the end it should be like: "C:\Programs Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Warlords\Civ4Warlords.exe" mod="Mods\Rhye's and Fall of Civilization". Just click on it and RFC will open! \o/

PS: i have even my on icon for it xD

It's been a while since I played this mod, so I have a few questions. Does the Warlords version require the vanilla version in order to play? Is there significant enough differences to warrant installing the vanilla version if it isn't required?

You don't require the Vanilla version to play with Warlords. As for differences (apart from the raw game differences):

- There are no independents (I and II) and minor civs ((african/american) natives, celts). Thus whenever an empire collapses or whatever, its cities aren't turned over to the independents but become Barbs. This makes the game more violent (as the AI goes stronger against Barbs than independents, and barbs themselves are more aggressive) and thus more civs "fall". In the beginning this was a real problem (with half the world turning barb from time to time), but it isn't that harsh anymore.

- There is no Babylon (or is there? I am not sure, haven't played Vanilla for a long time). Babylon = Barbarian => easier and different Middle East.

- The same applies to where new civs change the gameplay (Barbarian Pressure in North Africa and the Carthaginians for example).

- Slightly different phrased UHV's from time to time (due to Vassals for example).

Overall, it is afaik just that the Vanilla version is more violent and has a more fragile world. But perhaps someone can tell you better who has played vanilla recently (I didn't... ;)).

I know this is going to sound totally noobish, but I searched the forums for 20 minutes and couldn't find where to extract the files to.

-programs (or whichever language your windows is in...)
-firaxis games
-sid meier's civilization 4
-mods

for warlords:

-programs
-firaxis games
-sid meier's civilization 4
-warlords
-mods

a folder will be created automatically when extracting...

Thanks holy king, I managed to get it but I was wondering...does anyone know what difficulty viceroy is comparable too? Are Monarch and Emperor actually monarch and emperor difficulty levels? Thanks in advance.

The difficulties don't mean as much as the nation you choose. I for myself play and have always played Monarch. Just think those as Almost Medium, Medium and Slightly Above Medium. England is Easy and Carthage is Are You Sure You Want To Try This? :D

If you play something below Noble in regular Civ, I'd recommend Viceroy. If you play Monarch in regular, you may try Monarch in this too. But remember, nations alter the difficulty level much more than the actual level.

Is Rhye's and Fall included in the 12 new scenarios of Beyond the Sword?

How long is it between international congresses?

Yes it is. :goodjob:

That's great. It's good to see Rhye keeping the Italian end up as the foremost designers of CIV mods.

:worship: Viva il Rhye.

A small question:

sometimes when a civ spawns you get some additional units. In the python code in the RiseAndFall.py file I found the createAdditionalUnits command. When is this command triggered because sometimes there are no additional units.

The trigger is usually when a civ that controls one of the cities you flip declares war on you.

the same continent

Hi,

I had a problem with this in a game I played last night. I had played as the English and was aiming for the UHV. I had no problem with either being the first to circumnavigate the globe or with reaching the industrial and modern eras first. The problem I had was with founding 3 cities on every continent. I thought I had done this:

3 cities in North America, 3 cities in Europe (although only within Britain), 3 cities in Africa, 3 cities in Australia and 3 cities in Asia by 1727.

How are the continents defined? Do I have to have 3 in mainlaind europe as well as within the British Isles?

I know from the previous response that I didn't need to found another 3 in central or southern america.

The only other issue I could think of is that I founded Denver and then it was taken by the Natives for 1-2 turns before I took it back. Does this mean that I should have built another city?

Any advice would be appreciated. I can upload my save game if needed.

thanks,

Rikard
