You need to add the following line to civilization.ini

KeepRes=1

civilization3.ini is in the directory you installed Civ3 to.

If you are using PTW, the file is ptw.ini in the /CIV3PTW sib-directory, under the Civ 3 directory.

:mad: Thank you Anarres! I'd changed my civ3 ini file like that before and it didn't change anything, so I didn't post this time. I didn't know you had to change the PTW ini as well....now I can finally do it...:goodjob: :king: :egypt:

:lol:

Good! While I am here, does anyone here know what the line is in ptw.ini to disable the intro movie? I had to reinstall and the it overwrote my ptw.ini. :(

The full list of OCN numbers for map size:

8:14:16:24:32
tiny -> huge

According to the GOTM page, the % of OCN by difficulty is:

95:90:85:80:70
chieftain -> deity

This is weird to me. It's saying you never get 100% of the OCN, evne on warlord? :eek:

The deity number is definitely right though (70%), so I guess the rest probably are...

Thanks Turner, that's been annoying me for a while...

If a citys 'fat X' area does no include a resource, but the cultural borders do, and if you have a road to that resource, do you actually have that resource?

I thought not, but I have seen articles by people who say where they are going to build a city because their borders will eventually grow to include a certain resource, but looking at the screenshot shows that the resource will not be inside the proposed fat X.

Also, you can't build a colony inside your culutral borders whether it's inside your fat X or not - another thing that makes me think that perhaps the cultural border gets resources.

Yes , you'll get the resource if it is in cultural borders and hooked by the road .

I have a question : does it matter which city has 20K for cultural victory or only capitol can run for 20K victory ?

Any city can be eligible for the 20K win, provided it has 20K. It's just that the capitol is usually the best because of the palace culture bonus and if you are able to get an early temple in it and also no corruption.

That's quite quite true, but an argument can be made for your second city as well, since it's close to the capitol corruption is virtually nonexistent and you then have the advantage of using Palace prebuilds...

Another argument against using the capital is that the Forbidden Palace gives more culture than the Palace, and still allows using the Palace for wonder pre-builds. In this month's GOTM there are lot's of people going for 20K culture as thats the required victory condition for the medal play. There were some excellent discussions on how to win 20K culture in the Gotm22-Vikings PreGame Discussion thread (may want to skip to the 2nd page).

All resources need to be inside the X, in order to get the extra Shields or Commerce they might provide. To actually HAVE the resource, a road needs to connect it to the city, even when it's inside your X or border. If outside your border you need a road AND a colony. The colony will later dissappear if your borders expand.
Bonus resources like Gold, Game, Fish, Whales, Wheat, and Cattle only give Shields and Gold. If outside the X they won't do anything for you - road or no road.

It should also be noted that you lose the colony if another civ expands into that area before you do.

Sorry to be repetitive, but I just want to be absolutely certain I understand: If I buy something from a country on gpt at the beginning of my turn, but that same country later declares war on me (not I declare war on that country) when I ask him/her to move his/her troops out of my territory, does my rep take a hit (for "breaking" the deal)?

I understand that my rep would take a hit if I declared war first, but what about vice versa?

If I'm in a MPP, and my "ally" declares war on someone else (or someone else declares war on my "ally"), do I just need to declare war, or do I need to actually commit units to combat to uphold the deal?

You still get the rep hit, since you can force the AI to declare war on you, but not vice versa. This prevents abuse to some extent.
The mpp should trigger automatically when the first unit is attacked. You don't have to participate actively, the AI doesn't do that either.

So what exactly is the point of MPPs other than ruining trade agreements???

Ah...

Well, the AI will attack if they're attacked as well, or when they can gain 'benefits' from it. And since the AI will probably attack someone who's attacking him...
You could use to make sure the AI doesn't gang up against you. And I think the AI won't attack you as fast as they would without MPP, I've tried this multiple times with reloading.

Making sure you don't break any running deals is a very important aspect of the game.

BTW: Do entertainers/scientists/tax collectors ever change back to regular citizens? Do they ever leave the city?
If the governor is set to Manage ccitizens moves; Yes. Entertainers will become citizens when the mood of the city improves. Especially if you also set manage production.

No, you won't get the rep hit because it isn't your false because they break the deal and declare on you. However, you can still get an attitude hit. Please note that attitude is different than reputation. You can trust me on this because I use it all the time.;) The AI (attitude) may be furious at me, but my reputation is crystal clear.

War will be declared automatically by you and becuase of the MPP (a deal is a deal), you don't have a choice here. However, you don't have to commit any troop if you don't want to.
