...i have to destroy it first somehow?...
Exactly Correct: If you "Abandon City" of Antioch (a bit drastic, I know), you are then free to build the FP anywhere else, except your Capital City. ;)

Another possibility: Gift Antioch to another Civ, build your new FP/recapture Antioch at will! (The FP will have disappeared!) :mischief:

well, i guess I can part with it for the sake of my corruption-laden cities. i'd gift and recapture, but i want to keep my rep good in this map. thanks again!:D

Gifting a city and capturing it later would not affect your rep. As long as you clearly declare before going to war and have no trades that would be affected, it is counted as honourable.

There was a problem with Civ where the Lsans font has to be within the first 300 or so on your computer. You need to have Lsans and it needs to be within the first batch of fonts you have.

You would not believe how many fonts I had to get rid of to make the numbers work

Just a question, but what happens to the computer when you get the blue screen of death? What is the main cause of it? Hardrive failure or something?
Some errors Microsoft can catch and try to fix. Usually you see this Windows shuts down a program for some reason and then asks to send an error report back to Microsoft.

A BSOD is a bit more serious and tends to occur when a system has an issue. Usually this is a hardware issue but not always. Something broke that affects or could affect the entire machine.

Sarahtc, the corruption in the latest patch of Conquests is less than in the original version, so that would be another reason for you to patch up. But you will only see the corruption improving in games you're starting after patching up; in running games the corruption will remain similar.

Thanks Commando. ;)

Oh great... so thats what I get to look forward to when I finally drop my Windows98 machine in the trash and move CivIII to my Vista machine?

@capnvonbaron: I would recommend avoiding Vista at all costs. XP is definitely better than Windows 98, and I've heard rumors that Microsoft is already working on a replacement for Vista, but Vista is not worth the hassles.

There are some vendors still offering XP machines, but that won't last much longer, now that Microsoft is "sunsetting" XP. I'd say if you can't afford the new machine, better buy that copy of XP soon, or you will be stuck with Vista, there won't be any copies of XP available.

Ah... yeah, I can recommend avoiding Vista at all costs, too. My current mainline machine runs it... even worse, I have one of the earliest versions of the OS.

The old computer is... well... old. It's tiny 4.4 gig HD won't even hold XP + CivIII. Dilly of a pickle I have here...

I just sent my son an email begging him to keep a copy of XP for me somewhere. I do not ever want to deal with Vista. I am a proud technopeasant and I can't deal with that Vista stuff

There is no life without C3C

Mapfinder vs Mapstat vs Civ Assist ?
How do they differ? Which should I use (I've had trouble with my firewall program and CAII as well as getting it to load saves and update with turn changes)

Mapfinder is nothing like the other two tools. Its purpose is to generate maps and save the ones that meet the criteria you give to it.

Mapstat and CA are both great. Use one or both. I love the flip tool on Mapstat for instance.

Mapfinder - generates random games, saves them and if accepteble to your contition (lots of food/production/river/luxury) near starting area saves the generated map.

Civ Assist - makes civ much easyer to play as it integrates with civilization (makes it look like advisor) and gives lots of info.

Mapst$at - for those poor peeps like me who can't install civ assist, it shows all trades(possible to you), flip %, if city is going to riot etc.(same as civassist). But it has not integrated into civ so freely, so You must remember to push Alt Tab.

Couple of questions:

(a) Why does clearing a forest sometimes generate shields and sometimes not? What are the conditions needed to generate them?

(b) What is a "seed" (from the opening screen)?

(a) You can only chop a forest once for shields. You can't chop (& gain shields), replant, and gain shields from a second or subsequent chop.

(b) The seed number is a map identifier. If you know the seed number and certain other map conditions (which I can never recall), you can recreate a map and play it again.
