You must first form an embassy with the civ you want to form the MPP with, then go to diplomacy with them and the MPP will be on the trade options

Once I trade a tech, why do my advancements in that area stop?

And how do multi-player games work? Can I see a friend's civilization on my map? Is his Civilization still going to be active and visible if he's not currently on-line?

You could merge my posts, but not answer them?

Edit: give me a chance. ;) --Padma

I don't understand. What do you mean, your advancements stop?

In MP, each player is similar to the AI, from the other players' perspectives. That is, you will be able to see his territory as youdiscover it, and vice versa. As far as whether his civ is playabvle if he is offline, I *think* there are options to let the AI take over civs of people who drop, but I could be mistaken. (I don't play MP.) I'll let an true MPer answer that. ;)

And how do expansion packs change the game?

Can two people play together on-line, if they used only one CD-Rom to install the game. Meaning the same CD was used for both people, to install the game on both PC's. For both the original game, and the expansion (Civilization 3:Conquests, in this case). Could this work?

Well, you'll only learn Mysticism if you research it, or receive it in trade for something. If the Civ you trade CB to doesn't know Mysticism, how can they teach it to you?
And how do expansion packs change the game?
The full answer to this is ver long. Put simply, they add new Civilizations, new Buildings/Wonders, and fix bugs (hopefully). COnquests also added new Civ traits, and shuffled the existing traits a bit. It also changed several Tech-Tree things, and much, much more. PTW is really Civ3-expanded. Conquests is Civ3/PTW-expanded and modified.

I think that that *might* work. AT least in theory. Civ only looks for the CD at game start. But as I said before, I'm not an MPer, so MP questions can slip me up. ;)

I think you are being confused by the diplomacy screen (where you negotiate trades). If you have learned Mysticism, and you are negotiating a trade with an AI civ that has not learned Ceremonial Burial, you will see Ceremonial Burial in the list of techs you can trade. You will not see Mysticism in this list, because you cannot trade it to them while they do not have Ceremonial Burial. After you trade Ceremonial Burial, you will see Mysticism in the list of techs that you can trade. This does not mean that you have just learned Mysticism, only that it wasn't previously available for trade.

Oh, I dunno. This link is helpful in explaining the differences.

Yeah - just install the game on both PCs, load the game with one, once it is loaded, put it into the other PC, load Civ3 on that one, and then you can play MP from there.

I can't form an embassy. None of my cities have a star by their names. What should I do?

I need help!! I need to form alliances quickly!!

The entire world just declared war on me for no reason. First England declares war on me. Then Egypt (who I supposedly had good relations with), allied with them. Then I try to talk to Greece, but it says they are annoyed with me too. Shortly after, they declare war on me too. Then an Indian ship comes into my territory. This is my first contact with the Indians, and it says they are annoyed with me too. What's up with that? Would an alliance even help me (since I went back to the save file, before they all declared war on me), or would my "allies" just break any mutual protection pact anyway?

Well one city must have a star as you always have a capitol. Hit the H key and it will take you to it.

Not sure of the game, but the Indians know of you fromt he others they have contact with. It is common for them to be annoyed at contact if you have something they want, if you are large and so on. If you have razed towns, are fighting their friends etc.

Once a civ declares, it often tries to buy in other to help it. You either have to act first and get them on your side or suffer.

When you say you can't make embassy, what is happening? first you need the tech and then you need contact and then you need the cash. I forget, but I think you cannot make them with a civ while at war.

None of my cities have a star next to their names. How do I know which one is my capital?

I'm sorry Padma :(.

The city trying to build Swordsmen needs to have Iron in it's Strategic Resource box. This is the box on the upper left hand side. If it's not there, it can't build them.

Make sure you have a road connected to the iron from a city, and that city is connected to the other cities by harbors, airports, or roads.

And, of course, you need the required advance.

I have Iron in my Strategic Resource box, but I can't seem to make any Swordsmen. Why is this? I have Pikemen.

And another thing.

Why can't I ever fight a war??!!!!

Egypt declared war on me, and their swordsmen were slaughtering my Legionaries and other units. Aren't Legionaries supposed to be the best of all the units?

I can't seem to be able to defend myself. Does anyone have any advice to help me?

And another thing. (I didn't want to create a second post, since Padma has been kind enough to remind me several times, not to double post :)).

Why can't I build any wonders? My people tried to make the Sistine Chapel, and wasted several turns trying to build it.Then right when it should have been completed, I could not seem to finish the project, and was switched to Leonardo's workshop. And when that is almost complete, I'm swithced to another project. And this just keeps going on and on. Why can't I ever complete anything? This is wasting several valuable turns.

And what does it mean to build an army?

I'd really appreciate it if I could recieve answers as soon as possible.

You UU is a sword, that is why you cannot make them.

They are better than swords, but 3 attack Vs 3 defense is a toss up. If they have vets and you have regulars, they have a better chance with the extra roll.

If someone finishes a wonder, no further progress can be made and you must switch to something else. Do not spend time building a wonder that you have no chance to complete.

"And what does it mean to build an army?"

It means take a leader and bring it to a town and use the button that says build army.

we should all use it to mean the kind you load units into and refer to are total units as stacks or troops or anything. Usually you can tell what is meant within the context, but not always.

Well that ain't going to happen, I suspect.

Since you mention Legionaries, I assume you're the Roman civilization. Romans don't build Swordsmen, they build Legionaries.........which are stronger (in defense) than Swordsmen but have the same attack value. (Viz. 3.3.1 v 3.2.1.)

Tips for making Defenders stronger:

1. Build Barracks in the cities where you will be building military units. This will mean that ALL units built by that city will have "Veteran" status. (Viz. Have 4 Hit Points [Green bars next to the unit] instead of 3 for a Regular unit.)

2. Fortify your units when defending. (Viz. Hit "F" key after left-clicking on the unit.) This will give you a 25% Defensive Bonus for that unit.

3. Build City Walls in your Towns. (Viz. City Size 1-6) This will give you a 50% Defensive Bonus on ALL your units in that Town.

4. Some terrain types give better defensive bonuses than others. (Viz. Grassland=10%, Hill=50%) So, if your City is built on a Hill OR you can put units on Hills in the way of the advancing enemy, you should be in good shape.

If you take advantage of at least TWO of these points, there is NO way that Swordsmen will slaughter your Legionaries! ;)
