Yeah, but honestly it's not hard to figure out what HN unit belongs where.

Especially when the privateer moves through the same ocean tile as a pack of AI ships. ;)

AI see the whole map all the time, so if you do have privateers, be careful about where you keep them because the AI can see them in an empty (no other units) town and they'll declare war attacking the privateer and then attack you in general because war is declared. So if you park your privateer in a town, make sure you have a ground unit there to hide it. I know that sounds silly, but it's true.

So, this is really bugging me the more and more I play and think about it:

I'm playing a game where there are alliances. Russia attacked America, with whom I am allied. The military advisor popped up and told me about it, mentioning that we must declare war on the Russians. So, obviously, I am at war with Russia. I attacked next turn: no big deal. Finally, when the war ended (it lasted about 10 turns,) still, no big deal.
Then, the Romans come to me saying my ROP deal with them is over, and they don't want to extend it. I ask them (not in the trade table) if they want to sign a ROP. Caesar says "we know what you have done to the Russians..." and that they will never accept such a deal.
Soon, all my other ROP deals expire, and nobody wants to sign a new one for the same reason!!
What's the Dealio???????????? I was allied with someone who was attacked, so I was at war with that civ, but now every other civ is saying I abused the "ROP" I had with them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you had a RoP with Russia, I think this counts as declaring war while still utilizing a RoP, which torches your reputation. I'm pretty sure alliances don't matter.

Did you have any trades with Russia? BTW stop making alliances and RoP's. They should be used sparinly.

Even locked alliances? (which is what I had.)

So you had previously signed an MPP with the Americans then? Sounds to me like you had some units in Russian territory when you were forced to declare war on them. MPPs are a fine way of getting your reputation trashed. That's why many players here don't recommend them except perhaps for in extreme or unusual circumstances.

I've had Privateers sail strait to see from the city of Production and attack an AI Frigate that was sending settlers onto my continent. It never seemed to have an effect on my status with those AI civs. No war was declared and it seemed those civs had the exact same attittude towards me.

Being a Pirate is kind of fun! :D

I have not looked but would SaveConvert 3.2 let you do map editing along with the other stuff.

If so you could use both SC and an external map editor to do it.

Been bugging me since C3C came out.

For SGLs, do you have to be first among all civs in the world (including those you have not met) or just first among the ones you know?
All civs, if I remember correctly (otherwise on a one-player-per-island type of map you could potentially be spawning masses of SGL's). ;)
