Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

I have a problem and the search engine on this site is of NOOOOOOOOO help. I downloaded a leaderhead....went through all of the steps( as far as the vagueness of the instructions allowed)..not everyone is a computer genius...people on here tend to forget that. Anyway, I got the new Theodore Roosevelt to appear in my game choices but, the button to choose him is pink (it does allow his choice though)and the civilopedia button is also pink. The Civilopedia info I typed in showed up once but, hasn't since. I have spent 3 days trying to get this to work properly.GEEZ!!!!! HHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLPPPPPP! Dave

Did you try to contact the mod that made the L/H (either through thread or PM)?

I think he retired from the site,,,,I may join him.....:-) I think other people got it to work when he was active on here. Another LH maker made it available to me a couple days ago. he said he had never tried it. Dave

There has to be a reason the LH shows up and can be chosen BUT, the pics for choice in both the Leader's gallery and civilopedia don't show...???????

It might have been messed with by a subsequent patch. The Tech Support and Mod Forums should be able to give you solid answers.

Bestbrian, To this point I have received no tech help. I played Links 2003 for a long time...and if you had a tech issue ....someone was always there to help...not so here. This site is too big...and the search engine is awful....How can an individual find answers when a lot of threads that might help are 500+ pages LONG??? They need more specialization as to issues...I might just head back to Links...I love Civ and this was the first thing I tried to add..... And I have been a player since the original...I just wanted Teddy Roosevelt as an LH...and I got a lot of grief...I appreciate your support....Dave

And to add to my diatribe....if I produce something and put it on here...I would give complete instructions as to the install.....Not just say "There's a tutorial on that somewhere"...These tutorials are vague, incomplete and written for someone who stays on the computer 24/7/365...

For the record, most of the people in this subforum are ordinary game players, not techies or advanced modders. Also realise that you're asking a very specific question about modding, and that people in this thread aren't likely to be able to help you much. This thread mostly deals with issues related to how to play the game, not how to mod it. :)

I see you've already asked your question in another thread... give it a bit of time. Not everyone is on here every day. Alternatively, asking in this forum might help. I understand your frustration; however, I'm afraid I can't help you personally, as it's simply not my area of expertise.

Some threads are so long you couldn't possibly read through them, that's true. However, often they are question threads (like this one) that aren't intended to be read through - you should just post your question and see if any help arises. ;)

LP, Thank you sir...my frustration was showing...I did post it in tech.....I shall work on my patience before I become one...:-) Dave

EUREKA...after 2 days of trial and error...one letter was out of place.....and Civilopedia works as well....GEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZ..Who would have thunk it...one letter....Thanks all....

Glad you got it sorted out in the end! Often it's the tiny errors that are at fault for messing things up in mods (and programs in general). :)

I'm trying to generate a map where every civ starts isolated on an own continent.

Map: Custom_Continents
Number of Continents: One Per Team

This seems to work fine with map size=small. However, i'd like to play normal map size and here every continent starts with two civs :(
Is there any way to get the map generated the way it's supposed to (One Per Team)?

I haven't experimented with this map setting a lot as it is not the type of map that I enjoy, but I could imagine that if you try to place many civilisations on a map, then the map can't get enough continents for them and thus places a few of them together on a continent.

Lord Parkin, "To err is human"...TY for restoring me to an even keel.....it got my deductive reasoning back on track....Have a great day(Saturday)...in Kiwi Land....Dave

That was the trick, thanks! Should have thought of that myself :hammer2:
On size=normal it works with up to 6 civs.

I was looking at the size 68 Madrid post/picture on the home page of this site and was wondering how a city could have that much health. I added up all the health from all resources (12:health:) and all the health from buildings/modifiers (20:health:) and from Enviro civic [6+(2public tranz):health:] and came up with 40:health:.

1. Ignoring # of trees in BFC and fresh water vs. floodplains and no National Park, how large could a city get? 40?

2. How is it possible to have 125:health:? National Park?

Thanks again :goodjob:

Each future tech gives you +1 :health: and +1 :) . So, if you're very patient and play long after you would have normally won the game, then you can get a lot of health (and happiness).

No problem! Glad to be able to help with something. :)

Depends a lot on the "luck of the draw" of terrain around the city, as well as the number of seafood resources on the map for Sid's Sushi. Technically the biggest possible city would have riverside Corn on every tile for a start, but that won't happen on an unedited map.

So how much bigger could a city on an unedited game get? Well, you'd want it to be inland for a start, and preferably surrounded by as many flood plains and grassland tiles as possible, so that you could farm every tile. Probably a huge snaky continents or archipelago map would give you the most possible seafood for Sid's Sushi. As a rough estimate, for such a city on an unmodified map, you might be able to get it to size ~85-90. Hope that's useful. :)

Of course, on a modified game all of this goes out the window. For instance, playing Fall From Heaven with the Infernal civilization, you can see cities with populations in the hundreds. But that's not "normal" civ. ;)

2. How is it possible to have 125:health:? National Park?
As Roland says, Future Techs will be accounting for all that health and happiness. Notice he's at future tech 78 - that means he has +77 free health and happiness in all cities! (Incidentally, this is quite a bit of overkill - but I guess he was just doing it for effect.)

forgive me if ive missed the answer somewhere;
can you initiate apostolic palace votes or must you wait until the game arbitrarily decides to let you put forth a resolution? Additionally, how does the game decide when/how frequently to let you propose a resolution?

No need to apologize; it's a big thread and the Civ search engine is not optimal.

Yes, you have to wait, and the interval depends on the game speed.

Happy civing. :)
