Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

I have been trying to use the worldbuilder to create a multiplayer game with AI civs and my roomate on another computer, in a LAN game. Is this possible or am I wasting my time? Thanks

question.... when and where do air-intercepters intercept?

THIS IS INCORRECT

If you are the first to research a religious tech you will be the founder of the associated religion. The selection of that religion's HOLY CITY is RANDOM across your empire. As mentioned earlier in this thread, each cities science beakers are pooled together. It is the whole empire that is doing the research NOT one specific city.
Not that I don't believe you -- but are you sure? (I just didn't spot that- this is a long thread). Any way I was way happier with my explaination than now knowing it's random.

If you select the intercept option you will see them start flying in circles, and when an enemy aircraft attempts to carry out a mission in its radius it has a cirtain percentage to intercept the enemy aircraft, where it can either hurt, destroy, or do nothing to the other aircraft.

@SewerStarFish, sorry, the holy city is selected randomly, I've had extermely small cities with little/no science become a holy city.

I hate having to ask a question I'm sure was already answered, but if I'm going to do it this would be the place. Does anyone know who was the voice actor for the creation dialog and the technology quotes?

Its Mr. Spock....... Leonard Nimoy

Oh, ok, I see it now. I have to feel a little silly, but then maybe I didn't hear it well enough the first time, I thought it was Patrick Stewart. That's amazing that got such a famous person to do the voice.

so what happened to the embassies and the old way of spying? (sabotaging production was fun)

The new method of spying is just as much fun. It goes like this...

1. Research Communism

2. Build the National Wonder Scotland Yard

3. Build Spy units in the city with Scotland Yard.

4. The Spy unit can roam around rival territory regardless of border agreements or war. She can sabotage improvements i.e.mines etc. She can enter rival cities giving you access to their city screen (very useful). Sabotage of production and theft of enemy plans (troop positions) can also be carried out.

Probably more useful and more fun than the old method in civ3. The spy is very useful to monitor a rival progress of space race. Also prior to attacking a rival your spies can be used to assess the military strength in all the cities you plan to hit.

Of course your rival can also spy on you. To enhance you chances of capturing an enemy spy in your land place one of your own spies in your capital city.

Spies are very cool units.

Within what radius do air-intercepters intercept? , And do more intercepters on the same tile increase the chanse of intercepting?

Q. Within what radius do air-intercepters intercept?

A. Within their movement point range.

Q. do more intercepters on the same tile increase the chanse of intercepting?

A. More fighters/interceptors will have the ability to fend off multiple (same turn) attacks

First strikes...

1. How do you know when a first strike is happening? With an archer unit fighting a melee unit, I guess it occurs when the archers attack before the melee units goes in for hand-to-hand combat? But some of the other animations are no so clear.

2. Units sometimes say "1-2 first strikes." What does this mean? What does it mean to have "2 first strikes." Is it guaranteed to have one, and has the possibility to have two?

So, first strikes only happen when a unit is defending, and collateral damage only happens when your unit attacks, correct?

Had half a dozen questions, and by the time I was even 1/4 of the way through the thread, had em all answered plus a few I wasn't aware of. Many thanks to all who asked and answered before me.

Quick question about the Fast Worker (India's UU): If you capture a Fast Worker, can you keep it? On the other hand, if you are playing as India, can you capture and keep the normal worker? I suspect the answer is "no" to both counts. Would someone please confirm this? Thanks!

Moon,

My son played India the other day. He captured a worker and it became 'fast'. I don't know about the other way.

Thank you! That's good news.

The feeling is mutual.:)

just ran worldbuilder, capturing a fast worker turns it into a regular one

Don't actually think that you can. However, I do believe that if you save a modded game, you can go straight to the save game file (the greek helmet) and load it from there. Don't quote me on this though ;)!
