Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

If all the nations are your vassals you should have won a domination or conquest victory. I guess you disabled them... nothing you can do, go for the victory conditions you did left in.

actually conquest is the only victory condition. i guess i will have use worldbuilder..

@damke: IIRC, conquest IS the victory condition that counts vassals as conquered.

Maybe you haven't explored your entire world? Sometimes you get a "hidden" civilization on his own island.

i doubt. i have 5 vassals and 1 defensive pact. and its says rivals left: 5. i believe i need to conquer defensive pact nation.

Yup, that will do it. Even though it says your vassals are rivals, you may consider them as conquered. The defensive pact civilization is still unconquered.

I open up a trade menu with Elizabeth, and under his cities they are like:
London
Nottingham
Wales
Coventry (liberate)

What does it mean about Coventry? What happens if I trade Coventry away from him?

Elizabeth is a her :P I think this may be because Coventry has a significant amount of your culture, so it can be "liberated" - i.e. freed - and become part of your empire, but often they won't trade it to you anyway. (similarly when you have a city you can liberate to an AI, you get + diplo bonus and if you have the advisor on he will pester you to give it to an AI, but in this case there won't be any diplo,a I think.)

You have 5 vassals and 5 rivals? Then you should have already won a conquest...
In relation to an earlier post - do remember that you can't declare on vassals. Most annoying when they're about to win cultural :P

I have a question about revolts. I have 2 cities with huge cultures that were taken from the vikings. They have 2 neighbouring viking cities nearby with small cultures, yet every couple of turns one of my two cities has a viking revolt. It has probably happened about 10 times to each city now. The vikings are my vassal and I am pretty sure they aren't using spies to cause the revolt as my stationed soldiers lose health at every revolt. Also city flipping via culture IS turned on so something really strange is going on...

1. Why are they getting revolts when they have 5 times the culture of the 2 neighbouring cities?
2. Since they are getting these constant revolts than why aren't they joining the other civilization?

Because those cities were owned by the Vikings for a very long time and as such have a huge amount of Viking culture contained within them. To stop these revolts, you either need to station enough units inside the cities to reduce the chance of revolt to 0% (which you can determine by mousing over the % ownership bar inside the city screen)... or you need to capture/raze any Viking city which has its cultural borders overlapping with your captured cities. Also note that wiping out the Viking civ entirely will forever remove any revolt issues as well as removing all "motherland" unhappiness.

2. Since they are getting these constant revolts than why aren't they joining the other civilization?
Captured cities will never culturally convert to their former owner, only to a third party. However, as you've no doubt noticed, the constant revolts will make them near-useless unless you do something to stop them. See above. :)

To add a bit to what Lord Parkin explained, the culture situation to me is a huge consideration of when and whether to accept capitulation from an enemy. My preference is to take all of an enemy's cities on my land mass and accept capitulation when their remaining cities are those one-tile islands or minor barbarian land masses they obsessively went off and conquered. It saves you the time and effort to load up ships for the overseas battles and at the same time there's no culture threat from nearby vassal cities, only a slight happiness hit due to the citizens who year to join their motherland. One exception is if the culture situation looks pretty good even with the remaining cities on the main land mass, and there are a number of other AIs to go conquer, in which case the time savings of a quick vassalization can be worth a bit of culture pressure in the near term. If you have some spare Great Artists, they can help with culture pressure as well (settle for the 12c/turn); also Sid's Sushi provides not only food but a gigantic (for a corp) culture boost, almost overpowered.

Since they are my vassal I cannot conquer them :( But I stationed a few more troops there and the revolts now happen every 30 turns or so which makes the cities somewhat useful (especially considering one is a holy city).

Revolt suppression is an excellent use for old, obsolete units; this and HR are good reasons not to go deleting those units even if it will save you some gold on maintenance. If you have any of these around in cities that don't need them, move them to the city that still has a chance of revolt. Remember to hover your mouse over the culture bar at lower left to see what the chance of revolt is. If you station enough troops there, you can make the chance of revolt disappear completely.

My point was, don't stop the conquest and allow them to become your vassal if there's going to be intense culture pressure on vital cities like holy cities or corp HQs. Get at least a 1 city perimeter around anything you want to keep running full time, as border cities if you vassalize will spend half their time in revolt.

Hi, im not sure if this is the right spot for this question, but i am having issues with finding my Civ4 Complete - Beyond the Sword after i have installed it.

The warlords one is in the start menu.. sometimes, but when i try and create a shortcut, all it shows is a blank sheet that does not work. The game itself works fine and everything, it even showed BTS once and that worked too, but sometimes it does not show up in the start menu, and it did not automatically create a desktop shortcut like most games and i cannot start it from anywhere besides there.

I am using Windows 7 and have a HP ProBook with i5 processor.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, i kind of want to play the game with the full expansions in there.

Thanks.

Try "C:\Program Files (x86)\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization... \Beyond the Sword\Beyond the Sword.exe"

Make a short cut on your desktop by dragging the file there and clicking "make shortcut here" or something to that effect.

It just says "not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file..."

An ".exe" file? Are you positive that you found the right folder? I'm not sure about Civ Complete, but an "exe" file is an "exe" file...
