Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Is there any use for building nuclear plant then I already got hydro one? And does hydro plant remove the disadvantages of coal plant? Is it possible to set a rally point for newly created units?

1.No,
2.It removes the reliance on coal but still yields the unhealthiness from having power in a city
3.yes(shift+click)

Removes the reliance on coal and the extra 2 unhealthiness it was causing. (power gives -2 :yuck: regardless of source).

So if you have a forge, a factory, a coal plant, and access to coal and oil, you get a total of
-1 forge
-1 factory
-2 factory coal
-2 factory oil
-2 coal plant
-2 power

= 10

If you build a hydro plant, the total is 8 (negating the -2 from the coal plant).

As far as my experience goes, Shaka is a more "thoughtful" warmonger. He won't eradicate people for fun; he'll at least think about it first. Not quite as bad as Monty, anyway.

Yes. He's much more thoughtful. He'll think about it and THEN eradicate his neighbors! Of course, he also seems to have a bit of strategy programmed in, unlike Monty who just attacks for the sake of attacking. He even seems to be fairly good at invading another continent, unlike most of the other AIs.

OK, does anyone know more than me about Civ IV and Widows 7? I did start a thread on it, but...

Ah, never mind, I think I have an answer on the forementioned thread.. it had a problem with install, that's all... I'm going to just copy the folder from my XP desktop onto a USB and paste it into the right place on the Win7

Do you have to uninstall Civ IV Gold Edition before Beyond the Sword will install? I uninstalled Civ IV and reinstalled it and the Civ IV_1[1]_61 patch but the BTS doesn't give me an install option and doesn't play when you click play. I have both Civ IV & Civ IV Gold Edition currently installed.

Are your CIV and BTS games both from the same source, ie disk or an online vendor? If they are not from the same source, BTS will often not be able to find the original CIV install, nor recognize it, due to minor changes made by the various online vendors to make it work with their distribution systems.

Well, I just copied the folder from my PC onto my laptop, it works fine. I got the laptop specifically to have the capability to play C2C and RI so I was worried for a sec... thanks though

Can somebody explain me how does exactly imperialistic trait work? Every time I start the game with imperialistic leader, military advisor says 45 xp is needed for the first general, but the same amount of xp is needed with non imperialistic leader.. How could it be?

You get twice the credit per battle IIRC

Instead of getting 1xp, you get 2 in the GG bar.

Specifically, every 1 XP that you gain in battle translates to 2 XP in your Great General bar. So if you have a battle that gains a unit 3 XP, then you gain 6 XP in your Great General bar. So you get double Great General points - although it's worth noting that this doesn't quite translate to double the number of Great Generals (due to the increasing threshold for each subsequent Great General). You do get a few more (and quicker) Great Generals with the trait though, depending on how many battles take place in your games. :)

How does that work with the great wall?
Just like with regular Great People, the percentage bonuses stack, and then that's converted into the points you get. So with Imperialistic (+100% Great General points) and the Great Wall (+100% Great General points in your borders), you end up with +200% Great General points (in your borders). So every 1 XP that you gain in a battle then translates to 3 XP on your Great General counter. For example, a 3 XP battle gives you 9 XP on your Great General counter. Note that this only works in your borders, as per the description of the Great Wall bonus - outside your borders you just get the regular Imperialistic bonus.

So effectively the Great Wall only provides a 50% bonus on top of the Imperialistic civ's bonus in that respect (2 XP -> 3 XP on the Great General bar per 1 XP battle). But then again, gaining 3 XP on your Great General bar for every 1 XP gained in battle is pretty darned good. ;)

Already answered in a much better fashion :mischief:

Actually, I just tested it and there's a third factor I'd forgotten about - EVERY civ (Imperialistic or not) gets an intrinsic +100% Great General point bonus when fighting inside their territory. This bonus isn't really documented very well, so it's easy to forget about.

The full (corrected) table would be:

No Imp, No Great Wall, battle outside home territory => 1 XP gives 1 XP on GG bar
No Imp, No Great Wall, battle inside home territory => 1 XP gives 2 XP on GG bar (+100%)
No Imp, Great Wall, battle outside home territory => 1 XP gives 1 XP on GG bar
No Imp, Great Wall, battle inside home territory => 1 XP gives 3 XP on GG bar (+200%)
Imp, No Great Wall, battle outside home territory => 1 XP gives 2 XP on GG bar (+100%)
Imp, No Great Wall, battle inside home territory => 1 XP gives 3 XP on GG bar (+200%)
Imp, Great Wall, battle outside home territory => 1 XP gives 2 XP on GG bar (+100%)
Imp, Great Wall, battle inside home territory => 1 XP gives 4 XP on GG bar (+300%)

This is confirmed with in-game testing.

Hah, that explains the bogus numbers I was getting. I remember getting 3 xp in my territory (no imp, with wall)

I had absolutely no idea.
Thank you for pointing this out, makes a turtle-strategy more relevant.
