Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Is there any disadvantage to having unhappy citizens? I understand that they do not work, but other than that, is there any other negative? When I started playing, I kept trying to limit my cities' populations so they didn't have unhappy people (still stuck in my Civ3 ways). Now though I'm not sure I see the point - it seems better to let them grow and then the people will be there to work when the happiness is addressed. Have I missed something?

When a city completes a unit or building, I am asked for new building instructions. Is there any way to see what units are already in the city so I can decide whether to build another unit or do I have to go to 'examine the city" to see what units are already there?

I hope this is the right place for this question so here goes: I love Civ3 but I also have. Civ3 can take days or even weeks to play. What is the average game time from start to finish for a tiny map?

This depends heavily on your playing style. I personally play so slow, i'll probably take several days even on a tiny map. Normal people can do it in a matter of hours though, particularly at fast game speed.

Unhappy citizens still eat 2 food each (or 3 food if the city is unhealthy). So if you have loads of food to spare there is no other disadvantage. You shouldn't have a food surplus though. Unless the city has several big food resources, you could have been building less farms/windmills and more cottages/workshops/mines.

You have to "examine the city" unfortunately. Currently you get very little information when you're asked to give a new build order, not even the mouse-overs work in this situation. I hope this will be changed.

Is their a list of keyboard controls I can view on screen?

How do I rotate the camera?

There is no exhaustive list of keyboard controls. Some are explained in the "Hints" section of the civilopedia. Most keyboard controls are also mentioned in the reference towards the end of the manual.

Camera rotation: Press and hold Ctrl and press the left or right arrow key. You can also press Alt-F for a top-down view or Ctrl-F for free camera movement with the mouse (but for the latter, you have to set AllowFlying = 1 in your ini file).

Question, What is the UU of India civ???

still it's the 'faster' worker or is it another???

Does anyone have a image of it???

( don't have YET civ 4, so... )

I have small problem. Last week we played one nice game through Direct IP connection and all works. (4 human players 1 AI) But today we try create game and no more than 2 Human can join the game.

Anyone know whats happen? Settings is still the same!!!

I have a question, why are indian workers faster, it just don't make sense.

1. where are autosaved games located and how do I load them?

2. is it possible to raze a city you already have (besides giving it to someone and then attacking it)

3. how do I turn wonder videos, religion videos and whatnot off?

it's their national unit

1. In Documents and Settings\[Username]\My Games\Civilization4\saves\single\auto. To load them, click on "load game" and click on the "auto" folder displayed in the left column.

2. No, that's not possible.

3. Open your ini file and change the line NoMovies=0 to NoMovies=1 (I think that's what it's called, can't check it at the moment, but even if the real name of the setting is different, it should be an obvious one).

As stated by Psyringe it's sadly not possible. Just like it isn't possible at this time (without modding) to destroy a building.
In one game I inadvertedly culture-flipped a city in a horrible location. Trying to get rid of it, I lured my neighbour to attack me there. They did and took the undefended city. The next turn, my army that happened to be parked right outside stormed in. To my horror I didn't even get the option to raze the city. I abandoned that game there and then :(

What exactly triggers War unhappiness?

what units buildings etc can shoot nukes down? I tried to take out an opponent with a massive nuclear bombardement to avoid him winning a space race and he "shot down" every single one, yet I can't see SDI defense buildings.

My quick question is about installing mods. I install the mod to the mods folder as directed in the readme, the mod shows up in Advanced/load mod I select it and restart the game, but no soap the mod dosen't show up. Do I need to put the mods .ini file someplace else?

After I built Stonehenge in my capital I got a distant view from land. How do I get back to the standard (and closer) view in the game?

I lost the manual. Anyone have a link - forum or otherwise - that gives both beginner and intermediate level info on managing city specialists? And Caste System and that sort of thing? There's something basic here that I'm just not getting, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

Many thanks.
