After I built Stonehenge in my capital I got a distant view from land. How do I get back to the standard (and closer) view in the game?

I have a mousewheel. That does all the zooming I need. However, maybe something in this thread will help you.

What exactly triggers war unhappiness

As far as I know (admitedly, that's not very far at all), I think the status of war itself is the only factor. So if it says WAR in red letters by anyone's name, you're going to have war unhappiness.

Again, I'm a newb. Could be wrong. I just haven't seen anything to indicate there's more to it than that thusfar.

I have a question, why are indian workers faster, it just don't make sense.

Every civ gets unique units. For some reason, they decided to have the Indian ones be workers, while every other civ's UU's are military. I don't know much about Indian History, but I can't think of any outstanding Indian military units. Maybe that has something to do with it.

War weariness increases when you occupy enemy territory with your units. The more units you have on enemy land then the worse you war weariness will be.

When fighting a defensive war i.e on your own turf or in neutral ground then war weariness in either very low or non existant.

I am not sure but I think that being the aggressor also increases the unhappiness of your people.

Choice of civics also affects war weariness. I think if you run with Police State then war weariness is significantly reduced.

The building of jails reduces war weariness by 25%.

There may be other factors that increase or decrease war weariness but I can' think of anything else yet.

Hope that helps.

If I have a 4000BC Autosave (prepatch), any chance it would still work after applying the patch?

Having troops in enemy territory is indeed one factor. Fighting battles itself adds to WW as well. You get a little bit of trouble for being attacked and winning, you get more trouble for losing an offensive combat, and most for losing a defensive one.
Ending the war with 1 nation rids you of all unhappiness caused in those battles, but as soon as war is redeclared, it seems the unhappiness comes back in full force. So the only long term solutions are Police State, Mt. Rushmore, jails, and the luxury slider. Note that if you plan to use the luxury slider it's a great idea to have theaters, and to a lesser extent colosea. Later up the tech tree broadcast towers are a nice addition to this.

Yes it will. Interesting question though... does your patching the game depend on an old 4000 BC save?

Heh. No, just wondering incase I need to patch mainly for Ironworks being broke or not.

I posted asking about Ironworks to determine if I even need the patch. If I do need to patch I wouldn't mind playing this map afterwards.

Thanks

Can you change your leader's name during the game?

Can you tell civ not to use your computer name for your default leader name?

I tried to change the civ given name from "MIKE" to "[default]" hoping that it would just use "Alexander" or whatever the default was. That didn't work, so now I get "Nice to see you again, [default]" whenever I enter the diplo screens.

Are terrain; fortification posture; forts; etc cumulative. Example my unit is on a hill, forest/jungle square dug in and/or in a fort with the attacker coming across a river (not sure if the fort takes out the forest/jungle). What defense modifiers will apply?

Is there a hot key for upgrading all military units?

Thx. CJ:lol:

Yes. I think you hold alt down when you press the upgrade button, which will upgrade all units of that type to the new type. Hold the mouse over the upgrade button and look in the lower lefthand corner of your screen.

Civ3 gave Indians the war elephant, but Civ4 makes that a standard unit. The only really spectacular Indian warriors I can think of were the Gurkas - which fought for the British Royal Army not for India.

Quick Question....
Population in Paris has dropped to 1 ! This is in late game (195?) What could be a reason for this ? I did have 'emphasize artist' turned on. Is that it ?
TFHIA :crazyeye:

This has happened a number of times to my capital. All of a sudden the pop drops to 1!
Anyone know why this happens?

If I have health/food resources nearby (pig, corn, etc), should I plan to have a worker get on them as soon as I have the technology to harvest them, or should I wait longer so my city can grow a bit? Obviously everything under Sid depends on circumstances, but in general are people finding it better to build a worker right away or no?

Could someone explain how do I launch the spaceship? The victory screen says I have all the parts completed but nothing's happening. Thanks.

Is there a way to see what civics the AI-civs are running? (The log lists when they switch civics, but I'd like to have an overview of the current status.)

EDIT: grangerm, according to this, alt-d should enable a change of the leadername, although i haven't tried it. Concerning the default, I'd check the ini-file (which i can't do right now).

When you enter diplomacy with another Civ, just look at the icons above their Leaderhead. There will be the 5 civics categories represented next to the Civ's religion. Mouse over it and it will tell you what they currently are. Hope this helps.

Yours,
Aussie_Lurker.
