How do I find out what government I am and how do I change if I have the ability?

Also I have lots of money, so how can I pay to finish stuff early?

Boy do I feel like a dummy. Just as I get pretty good at III I start playing IV maybe I am a dummy.

Don't worry about it, I could beat Civ3 at least half the time at Demi-God, the first (and second) Civ4 game I played I got soundly thrashed at noble.

I'll answer your second question first to pay to finish building you need to have Universal Suffrage for your Government Civic. To be able to use Universal Suffrage you need to either control the Pyramids or have researched Democracy.
To rush by using up some of your population you need to have Slavery as your Labor Civic. To be able to use that you need to have researched Bronze Working.

Government to not exist in Civ4 like they do in previous Civs. It's more like Alpha Centauri's system. In Civ4 there are 25 civics, 5 in each of the 5 categories and they can be used in any combination. To change civics click on the button with the golden crown, it's the third from the left of the 9 buttons beneath the date or you can click F3.

I can't even finish the Tutorial in CIV4!! Can't search for the moment as the function is off....but
1) you can't save the tutorial and come back to it later...I tried...save function seems disabled. How long is this tutorial anyway?
2) It asks to find a second village and there isn't one on the map!..keep getting "tile not allowed " press G to go to village...Tutorial gets out of sync then.
3) The dialogue instruction box gets out of sync with the actions you are asked to do.
4) is this a pre-view of the quality of the game?

Any suggestions?

Les

Running a Shuttle i86 - XP Pro.

1. Save is disabled in the Tutorial. It took me about 40min to an hour to get through it. If I remember correctly.

4. No it's not a preview of the Game.

It's been a while since I played the Tutorial, I'll start it up and get back to you.

Hi :)

I'm confused when Civilopedia informs that Free Religion has No State Religion, then informs that you get one extra happy person per Non State Religion in a City. But if you're running this civic you HAVE no state religion, so why not simply say that you get one extra happy person in a city per religion (whatever that/those religion(s) may be)? Or does it mean that in cities that WERE running the state religion before you adopted Free Religion will not receive the extra happy person benefit for that religion?

Thanks.

The Universal Suffrage is understandable, but I am going to have to dig deep to remember about civics. I played Alpha Centauri but it was a long time ago and I hated civics in school. IV is really streching the mind and that may be good or bad but fun.:crazyeye:

How do you access line-of-sight in cities that have the religion of your holy cities ?

I have two holy cities, but I can't see anything special in the foreign cities that share these religions. Is there a way to see their city management screen ?

1.How do I trade money?

2.I just found Buddhism. Why the game tells me "Cannot convert to Buddhism"? (I'm currently in No State).

Edit: or was it Hinduism?

Discover Currency. It will take a while

I'm guessing here : are you the first to discover Buddhism ? If no, and you have no Buddhist city, it would make no sense to convert.

Basicly it means that every religion in a city will give you one :) face. I noticed that a couple days ago and thought that it was weird too.

You have to be of the same religion (ie you can't be Jewish and they Christian, even if you founded both)

What happens to monasteries after you discover Scientific Method?
Do they just vanish? Do all of their effects cease, or just some of them?
Can you still build missionaries in holy cities? How do you spread religion?

In my current game I have Buddhism as a state religion, and Russia also has Buddhism as a state religion. I have founded Buddhism, and made the shrine. Moscow is a Buddhist city.

But what actual keys do I press, or what mouse-movements do I make, to check out Moscow ?

You lose the 10 percent science bonus. The rest stays the same

Hi, I'm trying to find out what the music is called that plays on the menu screen on cv4.. I bought the game last week and knew I was gonna get my money's worth when the menu loaded up and the earth was there spinning round with that amazingly chilled out song playing...I actualy jus turned my speakers up and sat back and listened to it for about 10 mins

Anyway if anyone know what it's called or where I can find it too buy that would be great, it kinda sounds tribal african to be me..but I could be wrong. :)

What does 'OCC' mean? Also, I've heard people referencing the ability to 'siege' cities. As of yet I have not encountered this ability in the game. Help? Also, what is with the assumption that spies didn't exist until the advent of Communism? This is beyond ludicrous.

You can find the music in "C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\Sounds\Soundtrack", the files have the actual music names. Additionally a bit ago Thunderfall made an anouncement, giving the homepage of the composer. The pre-order edition came with a music cd with a lot of the music on it, including the track that you like (baba yetu, which is the Lord's Prayer in Swahili) with was okay, but really all that was intersesting was that they put another version of the opening song that was totally different from what you find in the game.

It means "One City Challenge", where you are only allowed to build one city the entire game. There is an option when you set up a game in the custem menu to only let you build one city if you want to attempt that.

It was just like that in Civ3 (except in some of the conquests), but yes, I agree with you, it really doesn't make much sense, and they are underpowered in civ4 anyway, so really what they are good for is to scout enemy territory, especially sense it takes 200 gold to destroy the improvement in a tile.

It says in the Civ manual, and all over the web, that you can get intelligence from cities that share the religion of your holy city. But it doesn't say how.

In my current game I have Buddhism as a state religion, and Russia also has Buddhism as a state religion. I have founded Buddhism, and made the shrine. Moscow is a Buddhist city.

So what actual keys do I press, or what mouse-movements do I make, to check out Moscow ?

Either this is so simple that my complicated mind cannot grasp it, or they took the feature out at the last moment.

Has anybody made use of this feature yet ?

You can't see the city screen, but the fog of war gets removed in the city, so you can see the units there etc. Just like if you have open borders and a unit in the city.
However, you can see the city screen in a city if you place a spy there.

Thanks, that takes care of the nagging feeling that I was completely missing something.

The rules for whether you can see the units etc. must be quite complicated though, because in my game :

Damascus
---------
open borders : no
war : no
religions in Damascus : confucianism (I have the holy city, it is the state religion of neither of us)
line of sight : yes :)

Philadelphia
-----------
open borders : yes
war : no of course
religions in Philadelphia : judaism (their state religion, mine is buddhism), confucianism (I have the holy city)
line of sight : no :(

I should add that with Damascus, my units are two squares away from the city.

Why nobody answers me? Probably this thread is too crowded.

And yes, I said it before, I am the first who discovered it, but this doesn't matter.

How does the game "tell you" that you can't convert? What are you doing when you're trying to convert? You need to describe the problem; if I tell you something you already know, it won't solve the problem.
