Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Yeah? Details please! Are you saying that Blake's AI mods (of which I'm ignorant) are incorporated into the new Warlords patch?
Yep. From the change list for the patch:
Somebody at Firaxis said:
AI city placement improvement as per Blake
Improved AI use of 'emphasize' buttons as per Blake
Pop-rush and draft AI improvement as per Blake
Worker AI improvement as per Blake
Improved civics AI as per Blake
Tweaked AI building priorities as per Blake

Blake's original AI mod thread, and his new, post-patch thread, are hosted at Apolyton.

Yes, there are many things in Civ that are not 100% perfectly true to real life. For instance, Montreal is unlikely to defect to the U.S.A., even if we have very good artists in New York. Ships CAN sail around the world in less than fifty years. And State Property has never, ever made anything in the real world more productive.

These things are in the game for fun and balance, not realism. And besides...the FRENCH had to build it, didn't they?

ãããh...

Noticed you have the same problem that we have with Spain
* Alvarve (they want it but cann't have it)
* others like Badajoz (it's our...)
* or Galiza, Catalunha (Independence from Spain) :mwaha:

 :mwaha:

BTW Does Elvis appears in the game as a Great Artist???

I never seen a great artist named elvis but all the great artists in the modern age look like elvis! :p

I'm sure you could quite easily add his name into the XML though. ;)

Could I do that without making a 'mod' that would make the game more complicated to load? If so, how?

Quickie!
When you install warlords can you still play the original civ 4 game [with origianal traits etc] or does warlords just update everything ,meaning do you get a choice to play either an original civ 4 game or a warlords expansion game.

I asked that question too not long ago. Someone answered and said you will be able to play both games. It doesn't overwrite civ 4 vanilla.

You can play either one. The expansion installs into a subdirectory under the main game, and doesn't overwrite any files. They also create separate directories in your My Games folder for mods, saves, screenshots, etc.

Note, you still need to keep your vanilla CD, though. If you want to play vanilla, you need the vanilla disc in the drive. For Warlords, you need the Warlords disc.

I've been playing on Noble for a while now and can pretty much win everytime. I recently made the move to the next level and I'm having much more difficulty (which I expected of course.) My main weakness IMO is that I automate my workers. I'm not a big fan of the micromanagement so I basically let them do their own thing. However, I realize city specialization is very important and as of now I don't even make a GP farm. I've read the guide to city specialization and think I have it figured out but I have a question.

Before civil service what do I build for cities that are not connected to any water sourse? Do I just cottage them and maybe build some farms when I can connect through irrigation after CS?

Thanks!

You're right that automating your Workers is definitely a weakness. It's a habit that you probably want to try to get out of. ;)

Before Civil Service, you're right that cottages will be the main thing to build for your cities that are not near fresh water, at least on flat grasslands. The priority tiles that you'll want to improve first though are any resources (health resources, happiness resources, or strategic resources), since those tiles usually get the best increase in food/hammers after being improved. Often you will want to mine the hills around your cities (instead of building cottages on them), since production is important in the early game. Jungles always need to be chopped, and forests will usually need to be chopped at some stage (whenever you feel it would be most beneficial to do so). And of course, roads need to be built promptly to ensure a good network between all of your core and outerlying cities. :)

Short question:
Can cities built on unirrigatable terrain (i.e. hills) be used for irrigation chaining?
No, they cannot.

Hello, I'm sure the answer in here somewhere but the site seems so big I couldn't find it.
I downloaded several new units mostly jet aircraft actually. How do I get them into my Civ4 Warload? Thanks a million.

You could just drop a modified XML file into your CustomAssets folder (usually at My Documents/My Games/Sid Meier's Civilization IV/CustomAssets). It'll modify the game (like a mod) but it gets loaded by default when you start the game.

excuse me how do you build ship ports , how do you make stop the people in youre cityt from conplaining thats theres no room and finnaly when youre in that menu that has that top down view of youre city what do the blue circles mean?

Ok, found the location, how do I make a modified XML file to add Great People names? Say I want to add Neruda and Dylan as Great Artists, and Erich von Manstein as a Great General (although a hideous human being). How do I do it? Actually I'd be curious to just see who they've selected as the Great Everything's of history.

1. I don't know what you mean by ship ports. Harbors are available early on (with compass?) and increase trade and the health bonus from seafood. Drydocks speed ship construction and cause ships to be built with 4 experience, but add 1 unhealth. They're available in the industrial age. People will always complain that a city is crowded, so you need to create happiness to balance that. And blue circles are where the computer thinks your workers should improve. If you mean the white circles from teh city's menu, those are the squares your city's population is working.
