what is AND for Rise of Mankind and where can i download it?

Are there any indicators when the time is right to switch? It happens (for me) late in the game and it always seems that research will blow out by (say) two turns. How do you balance the extra hammers received by the town advantage under US against the loss of research capacity?

Just to take it one step further- I know I am a devout builder. However, what do you guys build (if at all). I have read variously that a granary is essential and in other tomes a library is said to be one of the best buildings.

Do you otherwise pump out military and maybe the odd wonder?

I think I would go bankrupt without markets and banks, and unhappiness would kill me with churches and theatres.

I generally try to build pretty much everything you mentioned (With the exception of banks which I sometimes build latter in the game). It all really depends on what you're trying to do though.

I've been hearing about dot-mapping. From what I can tell, its basically a way of mapping out future cities? Is it an option in game (like the alt-s)? Or am I misunderstanding?

You can do it by hand using the strategy layer, but most people regard that as cumbersome. Instead, you should download the BUG mod which provides a very easy-to-use dotmapping mode.

Is there any setting that lets me view other civs battles? (if I have field of view of course).
I really don't like how I only get to see the outcome.

Long time ago I have build cottage and now I have find uranium in that place I get two bread and four coins from this cottage. Should I mine uranium or leave this town?

I find it a little ridiculous that I can see all the unit movements other civs do but none of the actual fighting.

Anyway... is it possible to cease production in a city? Wealth is not available and units cost too much upkeep... so I keep deleting units after they get built.

I noticed that when I was on strike a city didn't have anything in its queue. Can I do that manually?

Anyone have any idea why Xian is not providing irrigation to the farm to the southwest? Note that the worker immediately south cannot build a farm either. I have another city in this very game that provides irrigation from a river to a farm.

Only difference I can come up with is that Xian resides on a hill. I removed the hill via worldbuilder and advanced a turn, but the issue remained. Perhaps popping into worldbuilder is not enough to have the game recalculate the situation.

It depends. Do you have any other source of uranium? If not and anyone builds the Manhattan Project, you might really, really need that uranium. If you expect the game to be over before anyone tries to start a nuclear war, you wouldn't need it and the commerce might be more valuable.

If you're not sure, you can mine to within a turn of finishing and stop, so that you can finish the mine quickly if you have to.

BTW mining a uranium subtracts one :food:, adds 2 :hammers: and 3 :commerce:, so you aren't losing as much as you think (one food, one commerce, and the chance to grow that cottage even further).

A city is always putting its hammers into something. There is a glitch that sometimes lets you assign a building that you cannot build and then the queue gets left blank... like when you use the end-turn pop-up to assign a wonder or a catherdral to more than one city, only the first will actually build it and the second will get left blank. But its not supposed to be left blank.

You could build national wonders or world wonders part way in a city and then remove it from the queue and start it in another city. Each city that put hammers into it then gets the hammers converted to wealth when that wonder is completed elsewhere.
Or tech Alphabet and just build Research. And you can manage which tiles you are working to minimize the number of hammers (max commerce so you can tech something that lets you build something useful)... if its getting tedious to delete stuff as soon as its built. That's how I tackle the problem, but I'm happy to say that I seldom get myself into that situation anymore. You should plan your tech path more carefully, perhaps. :)

I just started playing. I was trying to attack a city and when I moved on to the city my unit just moved over it and did not attack. I am on good terms with the other civ and have open borders. How do I attack?

If you produce a lot of Great scientists, is it better to settle them in one learning centre or try for a number of academies in your larger cities (say over 10 population)?

It depends...

If you are using your slider at 100% research nearly all the time, then the extra academy in a commerce city is far better than a settled GSci.

If you are constantly at or below about 20% Research, you'll likely get more out of a settled GSci in your Oxford Univ. city E.G. Representation with library, univ, Academy, Oxford U, Observatory = 9 * (1+.25+.25+.5+1+.25) = 29 beakers per turn.

If building another academy in another city is going to beat that, then do it. Just recall that the settled scientist will produce beakers in good times and in bad times, but the Academy's beaker production varies with what the research slider is at (how much of the city's commerce gets converted to beakers).

Note, you should almost never settle a GSci anywhere other than your Oxford City.
