Your post is understandable, take your time when posting and don't e afraid to re-ask when you're not sure about something.

Go to darski's link and then find the subforums, there's a tutorials one with some great help, as well as just mucking about, there's a lot of questions about rules editing and so forth, even after more than a decade.

Agreed. I'm wondering, though ... I have not seen any examples in the standard game where a single unit "A" could be upgraded into either "B" or "C".

I thought there were cases where two different units "A" and "B" could be upgraded into the same unit "C", but I'm having trouble thinking of one right now. I guess that would apply for unique units: both Knights and Chinese Riders would upgrade to Cavalry.

Hi,
I guess that would apply for unique units: both Knights and Chinese Riders would upgrade to Cavalry.
Yes, and both could be upgraded from Horseman. ;)

Another such unit is the Warrior, that could be upgraded to either generic Swordman, gallic Swordman or roman Legionarie.

However in the editor the Warrior goes to Swordman (next standard unit), while the Horseman goes to Mounted Warrior (same level UU). This is somewhat irritating.

I tried both versions on the curagh and the galley. The results are on the previous page.

Maybe Upgrades for UU is at least partially hardcoded?

No. The UU is simply a unit that is only assigned as buildable by one specific civ in the editor and that starts a Golden Age when victorious against a non-barbarian unit. You can have specific units starting Golden Ages but available to everyone and civ-specific units that don't start Golden Ages. It's because of the moronic Firaxis mindset that everything has to be as limited as the oroginal boardgame as possible.

Is war weariness counted per war?

I was in a war with Portugal and had huge amounts of war weariness. During that war two other civs declared on me. Now the war with portugal is over and war weariness is gone. So, is it counted seperately for different wars or does the fact that I didn't start the other two wars also somehow factor in?

I believe it is counted per war. I might be wrong though, I am rarely in more than one war at a time.

My question: Say it was 2049 AD. One turn left. An AI civilization has the highest score. There are multiple other civs. On that turn of 2049 AD, using a host of Modern Armor, nukes, and Radar Artillery etc. you capture every single one of the #1 AI's cities. However, their score is still the highest. The game ends with them still in the lead. Do they win a Histograph Victory, or does it fall to the next highest civ that is alive?

Thanks. It seems so, because war weariness again went down when I made peace with one of the other two civs.

To be precise, it is counted per opponent.
You declare on X, then war weariness kicks in, then you sign peace.
At this point, the effects of war weariness disappear, but war weariness per se is still present, and it slowly fades away.
If you redeclare on X, the remaining level of war weariness against X manifests itself again.

Thanks. Is there anyway to know what the level of war weariness is when at peace?

A very bizzare question. The chances of something like this happening outside of a testing ground are slim to none. The answer is absolutely maybe, doesn't it?

Yes, but strangely enough sometimes you get war happiness. If you have a hated enemy that you're permanently/intermittently at war with, who keeps invading you, then your population might actually get more happy faces -even a God Save the Rulers day- when you start on a new war against them.

x-post edit: you can only win if you're still alive.

That is not what causes War Happiness. War Happiness comes from the declaration. When someone declares war on you, your citizens are happy that you are going to defend them.

Actual war activities cause weariness to increase and, therefore, happiness to be converted into unhappiness. A fake war declared on you by an AI which cannot actually attack is a fine source of happiness.

Ah, defensive bonus.

But I'm not so ure, because when I finally decided to stamp out some of the peskier city-states in Hegemon and attacked them by myself, my people supported it.

Attacking neither causes War Happiness nor War Weariness. As I said, Happiness is caused by a foreign declaration of war while Weariness is caused by actual belligerency no matter who started the conflict.

Thanks for all the responses! Never knew you could get war happiness. Gonna check out that thread when I get home Cyc!

First off, welcome to CFC :band::dance::band:

Sorry you are starting with a problem. Are you trying to play the "normal" game or a mod? It looks like you are missing a file. If you are playing a mod then the mod is broken. If you are playing the main game then your install is broken (I think). I suggest the easiest way to fix it would be a re-install. Good luck, and do post back here if you fail.

[EDIT] Doh, reading failure on my part, sorry.

Hi,

Seems You missed a point in the worklist. ;)

Go to "x:\Firaxis Games\Civilization III\Conquests\Text" (or there ever your scenario is located), remove the write protection of the file "PediaIcons.txt" and add there your new unit (use an available unit for copy and past). There are two entries.

I should look like:

#ICON_PRTO_Longship
art\civilopedia\icons\units\x2_Longship civpedia lg.pcx
art\civilopedia\icons\units\x2_Longship civpedia sm.pcx

#ANIMNAME_PRTO_Longship
Longship

Oh... in case you are editing the main "conquests.biq": Make copies before changing anything!

I hope this was helpful. ;)
