Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Hey,

I have a question .. I have seen that Steam sells Civ III complete version ... .

Does anyone know what exactly you get for that ? And do I need to be connected to the internet to play civ III then or can I play it offline like Civ II ?

I was going to attempt to answer this but then I realised I don't actually have the info you want. I just got a steam account and bought civ III (£2.99) but I have no clue whether the game can be played off line (kinda doubt it) nor what 'exactly' it is you get. To me the game is just the game but the experts here call it 'vanilla' and fool around with it, downloading patches and all kinds of things I have no clue about. I'm guessing that doesn't help much :)

There is a difference betwen Civ3 and Civ3 Complete, as Complete includes Play the World and Conquests, whereas Civ3 is just the basic game. As for needing to be connected to the Internet for the Steam version, I do not know. Against that, there are several members that have posted about the Steam version in the General Discussions forum. You may wish to address your question there.

If PTW means playing other human players then the steam version has that feature.

Play the World was the second version of Civ3, with some expanded features, especially buildings. I apologize for not making that clear. It also had some very nice scenarios that came with the game.

I'm pretty sure they sell Civ3 Complete (C3C) on steam.

A quick way to check it is if you can play as Seafaring nations. (Byzantium, Netherlands, Portugal). If you do, you have Civ3C.
Or if you encounter the Statue of Zeus.
Or if your city is destroyed by a Volcano.

Can anyone help out. I am multiplaying with my son and for some reason the preferences don't seem to want to work. Specifically, we can't make the 'always ask for build orders button' work. Any ideas?

I think it's one of the borken ones.

I meant broken, but the message got across anyways.

walletta, Civ3 was treated by Firaxis as some sort of beta for some reason, so don't worry too much. :)

I ran 'borken' past my people and they come up with 'broken' real quick so no worries :)

Funny thing is last time we tried to multi-play, quite a few months ago, the preferences worked fine. Oh well.

I want to upload a saved game onto the forums, but when I search for the file on my computer the folder for my saved games doesn't show up. How do I fix this? I'm running on Windows 7.

Thanks!

Maybe it's a hidden folder?
It should be in
…\Civilization III\Conquests\Saves
if you have c3c.

Hello,

Newbie here. Can't figure out in which subforum to ask about a mod (mod-component?) that limits a civ3 game to a certain age. That is - limits research up to a certain age technologies, and does not allow any further techs. Would like to play the game in the middle ages :)

Any pointers on this are appreciated

You might want to look at some of the ideas in the following thread.

pretty cool idea

When I have defeated all enemies in a city I sometimes get the option "Install a new government!" and sometimes it just says my units have destroyed the city. What does this depend on?
