Stick to tea instead, it's classier and tastier.

Eh ... depends on the tea. I like double-bergamot Earl Grey, which is as strong as coffee. (Plus, my cold brew removes most of the acidity.)

Exactly: depends on the tea. I have been living in the US for 2 years, and what they call "tea" over there, is definitely unswallowable... After I tasted their "tea", I understood, why everyone there drinks coffee...
(But that was back in the early 90s, so perhaps things have changed since then?! I would hope so for them...)
Fortunately, my mother would send me a "care parcel" every couple of weeks, and I told her to include those things, that simply don't exist in the US: bread, cheese, chocolate and tea.
And I had two fellow students, one from England and one from India, and they both also often got tea from home, so we shared with each other. That was the only way to survive those 2 years... :D

I was spoiled by living 1-1/2 years in Worms (about 30 years ago) & drinking really good coffee. When I got back to the U.S., finding good coffee was a challenge for many years. (And no, the tea really hasn't changed.)

On a Tea Break! :)

But they drink 'Murican coffee.

And it's not off-topic. Clearly we should have an Opium Wars scenario in which individual European powers try to get treasure units produced by sales of Tea and Opium to their home. To complement the Firaxis-made conquest where the Europeans did the same to the until then pre-Columbine America.

Hello there. I've been on this forum for a couple weeks now and you guys have been great. I have a weird issue that perhaps one of you can help me with.

I have CIV 3 plain vanilla on disc. I bought a new laptop a couple months ago and have since loaded a couple older games on it (Fable- The Lost Chapters and CIV 3). I was delighted to see the new computer didn't need any tweaking to handle installing the game (via a discplayer I bought at the store for $30). Weird thing is this: I can't save games. I usually give my sav files names like "pre-war1965.sav" or something like that, but thing is when I save I never get a message the game didn't save, but I don't see it in any of the game files. But the autosaves are working fine. So, long story short when I log off that PC the only load files are from the yearly sav files. Hence, when I come back I always find I have to repeat a year's work because the only save files I can see are the autosaves, which can be pretty tedious on large/huge maps (which I love to play on, ironically).

Just realized, like a senile old man, that I could do a search for anything *.sav on my PC. Would that find those save files? If so, why aren't they showing in the game directories?

Thanks in advance for answering this pretty stupid question.

Let's start by the obvious. What OS are you using? There's entirely different solutions for whatever is going on, depending on whether you're using Windows (and which version, or even WINE) or Mac.

Make sure you have installed and run with the same authorization. I have many times messed that up. Install as adm and run without or the other way around. Windows installs the game in x86, but can only write to x86 as adm. The search will work, if the save file is on the drive you search.

If you have installed Civ 3 in the programs (X_86) folder under Win10, you will mostly find the save files in the VirtualStore of your pc/laptop: https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/ccm2-epic-mod.625812/page-13#post-15397601
So a search for the VirtualStore on your laptop and here for your save files (and may be modifications you have done to some of the biqs) and a connection of the VirtualStore to your desktop can be really helpful.

But there is one thing that is a riddle for me: Win10 doesn´t support SecuRom any longer, so how were you able to install Civ 3 Vanilla from a CD with Win10 ? The only CD versions I am aware of allowing such an installation is the Civ 3 version of the 'Sid Meier´s Chronicles' compilation or a German 'Green Pepper' version of Civ 3.

I managed to rip a working ISO from my original disc with the right settings, but I thought I was the only one perverse enough to attempt that route. (I couldn't replicate that feat with my PTW disc, so I gave up and bought the Complete edition from GOG.)

Wow, a lot of that goes straight over my head. I have no idea what you mean by "Virtual Store". I'll search for it.

As for the install, I don't really know what to tell you. The new laptop didn't have a disc drive (can't believe they don't put drives in PCs anymore), so I had to buy an external disc-drive to read the CD-rom. It installed with no problem (that I'm aware of). I just loaded the disc in the drive (which was connected via USB) , it was detected and I installed the game. I could be wrong on the OS, I'm at work and my laptop isn't available to me right now, but since I only got it a couple months back at WalMart I'm assuming it's Windows 10 (with a high degree of confidence).

This is the one I bought (I think...it was nearly $700).

My c3c disks work on win10. Apparently some disks don't have securom on them.

Yes, I named the two known cd versions that are still running under Win10 - but may be there are some more of them (or there was a change in Win10) ?

I think that's an issue guys who bought the program on STEAM have or perhaps a later version of the game. I've got the original discs. Don't have the box anymore, but maybe it's out in the garage under a bunch of other junk, lol.

I stress again, this game is plain vanilla. It's not "Conquer the World" or whatever the expansion was called. I don't have some of the Wonders that I've seen you guys discussing here, such as the Mausoleum. There are only 2 civ traits per civ, and agricultural isn't one of them. There are resources I've seen on maps in this forum , and on youtube, that don't exist in my game (such as sugar). The country selection is more limited as well.

The mechanics are mostly the same, and I've gotten some good stuff in here.

Dragon1965, the only important fact is that you can find your save-files - and here I wish you good luck and that one of the hints is working for you! :)
