Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

For newbies there exist four types of water tiles. Lakes and coast tiles which count towards the domination limit. Sea and ocean tiles which don't count toward the domination limit.

What is the bonus/penalty for playing a civ's "Favorite Government/Shunned Goverment" respectively as listed in the civ's profile in Online Civilopedia?

AFAIK, it affects the attitude of other tribes towards you, which appears to affect the probability of them declaring war on you.

I don't think it has any affect. (I think it affects somewhat which government the AI will pick for itself.)

To get an attitude boost, you and the AI need to be in the favoured government. To get an attitude reduction, you need to be in the shunned government while the AI is not.

Game mechanics question- how do you renegotiate peace? How do you end a ROP or other 20 turn deal?
Go to the trade screen and then click on current trades (or something like that). You can then click on Peace Treaty.

Cancelling 20 turn deals after the 20 turns is up is done the same way. Before the 20 turns are up you cannot select the trade to cancel it. War (or broken trade routes for resources) is the only way.

Open up the Diplomacy Dialogue with the other country. Click on the word "Active" on the bottom right of the interface. This will show you all the current deals and how many turns are left on them. Click on one of the deals, and the negotiations box will open to renegotiate that deal. (Sometimes the AI will refuse the previous terms and sometimes they will offer more). If you move to renegotiate Peace your advisor will ask if you are sure because it could lead to war. I you say yes, you have the chance to blackmail them into a deal, or go to war.

Game mechanics question on artillery. Every so often when I kill a ship with arty, I get a screen message saying that the arty was upgraded to Veteran.
Does this mean anything? (i.e. a greater chance to hit?)

I didn't think arty could kill a ship (except H'wacha of course).
Aabraxan, do hit points mean anything for the H'wacha? I thought it got captured/destroyed like a cannon. Can you get a ML from a H'wacha?

I don't really know. I haven't played as the Koreans for a long time. My guess (& it really is a guess here) is that: (1) H'wachas cannot be captured, but are probably destroyed; (2) that you should be able to get an MGL from one (not that I can recall ever actually getting one). I could be very, very wrong, though, so I'd invite anybody who knows more about the H'wacha than I to chime in and correct me.

The actual arty that I'm referring to are from the AOI mod, but the similar thing occurs with bombers in C3C. They go from reg to vet to elite, most often when they kill a unit. In my experience, the Elite bombers have greater chance to kill, and greater chance to damage very strong defenders (Mech Inf).

I was wondering if someone knew the game mechanics of that bombardment process and how experience of a bombarding unit plays in it.

And how can a hwacha have hitpoints? (or any Arty)

There is a way to keep track of a Hwacha's status by the height of the little status ball, and yes an elite can generate a leader by killing an enemy. I think Greebleys giant map AWE SG generated dozens of MGLs including a few H'wachas when they played as Korea.

Well, Bombers have HP, which comes into play when they get intercepted by Fighters. I haven't experienced any greater or less chance for Vets or Elites getting higher kill counts, though.

And, yeah, H'wachas are destroyed, not captured.

It does seem to me that the level of the bomber has an effect on it success ratio. I always hold my elite bombers for the most important run. It also appears to increase their survival, when attacked.

This is not a fact, just what I have observed. I am less sure about fighters as I use them even less than bombers.
