ok.... I've never played with vanilla or PTW.... I got into C3C from the get go and am wondering why one would play with the others if C3C was available and able to run... Am I missing something by not going back and playing the older versions?

At first I didin't want to play them because I didin't want to confuse myself while I was getting used to the C3C game but after playing C3C to Emperor level difficulty I am wondering if I didin't miss out by not starting with vanilla/PTW b4 going to C3C...

Hi. Got a quick problem. Started playing a game on Civ3 vanilla on a friend's slow PC. Now we want to bring it to a faster PC which has C3C on it. Having saved the .Sav file in with the rest of my save games there is an 'error reading file' report. It's the first time I'm doing this so what am I missing? Can you open up vanilla games in conquests?

If the C3C version has been upgraded with the v1.22 patch your old saves may not work from vanilla/PTW... I know that old saves of C3C will not work once you install the patch but am not sure about the eralier versions of Civ3...

My $0.02 ;)

I don't think you're missing anything. Sure, maybe some GOTMs or SGs, but if you're not doing those, there's no reason, IMO, to go back.

Thanks... I was just curious.... But I couldn't get myself to stop playing C3C long enough to try out the vanilla/PTW versions.... now I won't bother (unless C3C gets boring after I get to Sid level... which I doubt will happen b4 Civ4 is released)

BTW... How do I change the text under my avatar?... I've looked all over my userCP page and cannot find where I change it.... I haven't played a chieftain level game in a LONG time.... just to easy....

:thanx:

Go to User CP, click on "Edit Profile" on the left hand side, and enter what you want under the "Custom User Title" -- the first box in the "Optional Information". Put in anything you want, i.e. 'L'Etat, je suis moi."

And, like a custom avatar, you need 30 posts and 30 days registered as a member. Got a few more days there until you can update it, Gorf. Posts obviously is no problem.

Thanks Turner.... I have no idea how long ago I set up my account....I've been reading the forum and the Military Academy for quite some time. I tried to soak up ask much knowledge about C3C as I could b4 posting.

One thing I sure am glad of is that this resource is available otherwise I might have gotten so frustrated after upping the difficulty to go back to playing Stars! But I've gotten rather tired of playing that game since I've had it since 1993... Yes it still works while a lot of my older games don't (CIV I, Warcraft,etc...)

Thanks to everyone else out there who lives in Civ III. :goodjob:

FWIW, Gorf, you registered April 5. ;)

(Mods can look at more detailed info than users. :) )

:hmm:
Either GA and me are undercover mods or you spared the detail bit about Gorf.
/goes off trying to ban randomly in OT...:D

ok...Q about setting the resolution in C3C... How? I saw a reference to problems in FAQ that said there were directions in the "readme" file but I cannot find the info in any of the readme files.... I wanted to change it a long time ago but soon got distracted from asking after I found out about the "z" key but trying to control the game in the zoomed out screen is like trying to talk to someone from space (hey you!.... No not you the other you!... No Do't go there!!....ugg...)

any advice much appreciated.... :thanx: in advance

I know that technically this should go in the Creation and Customization forum, but there is no "Quick Answers" thread there, and I didn't want to waste space with a whole thread for one simple question. Is there a way to change the maximum number of cities on a map? I'd like to play El Mencey's map and actually settle the majority of the world...

How is Military Service determined? Why does the human player always have the "worst" Military Service of any civ?
I believe it has something to do with soldiers per capita. And the human does not always have the "worst". Sometimes I have the highest.
