What's really messed up is that Shift-D is Damage Cleanup when a worker is selected, and Diplomacy when a non-worker unit iis selected!

Should have just made it Ctrl-Shift-D period. Or better yet, modify the Ctrl-P to be Pollution/Cleanup damage.

What I hate is how if I order a worker to clear a forest that seems to set it to clear all forests. You have to catch it after it finishes the job.(you have to specifically click on it and not use next unit) Sometimes you don't want forest cleared or you have higher priorities.

Speaking of autodoing things. How do you set units to not auto do things? Like if you have a path set for a unit for it to not automatically take that path when it comes up when clicking next unit?

Also, That xcel OCN calculator doesn't for me, CRpSuite isn't working for me either. Would someone please point me to a working OCN calculator? I'd like to know when I need to trim back cities. Its unfortunate that civ 3 didn't take much more from alpha centuri. That game actually warned you when you tried to place a city that would put you over your corruption point. (with a option to make the city anyways)

Are you sure? I've never noticed this myself. Are you using Shift-C for the Clear Forests command?

There is a command that will clear forests, I don't recall it off the top of my head. And it will do it in any tile you own, not just inside a city's radius. Ctrl-F or somesuch.

But yeah, I use the Shift-C to clear individual tiles. Easier that way, and I hate running down automated workers.

Post about individual utility problems in thier own threads in the Creation & Customization \ Utility Programs forum. When doing so, try to be specific about why it doesn't work.

you are using the automate clear forest button... use ctrl-c... it will only clear the forest your worker is on and stop once done.

I don't mind the popup for diplo... I just Esc out of it and it doen't do anything but block the screen for a bit. I do like having the ctrl-c, ctrl-d, and ctrl-x right by my left hand that I keep on the left side of my keyboard. That is just about all I use of the automate worker functions other that in the beginning when I use the "build road to" functions.

Do I get the 25% defense bonus of a forest tile when I build a city on top of it?

I plan to build a city exactly where the warrior is standing. Would it be a good idea to plant a forest before building the city at this spot?

Anyway, what tech do I need to plant forests?

No, you don't. Tiles are 'cleared' when you settle upon them (ie; jungle + forest -> marsh), so no need to plant a forest (which you can do with the technology Engineering in the middle ages). It is a good city location, though.

Generally yes. Also a few more lake tiles. And fewer floodplains due to less desert.

When you win with an elite and a leader is created, you name that elite. I understand that you can name an elite at anytime, but does a named elite created via the battle that gave you a leader have better fighting attributes than any other elite?

To simplify, is that elite that resulted in the leader any different than any other elite?

Thanks,

Is there an article on using workers effectively?

How do the workers do if you set them to work on a city automatically with Shift-A vs. manipulating the worker manually?

Thanks,

Stunner :goodjob:

Here's an article on worker actions. Automating workers will not allow you to decide what should be done. They will not hook up recources, luxs and they'll over irrigate everything. Don't do it. See Tom Tom Club in my signature for a automated worker/governor variant.
Cracker's article

On the elites question once an elite wins he can not produce another leader like your other elite can.

Thanks Whomp, but is there any difference between that elite that created a leader and any other elite for combat purposes?

Thanks again,

No, Elites and Elite*s (ones that have produced a leader) are exactly the same after the battle. Producing a leader doesn't improve stats, give them better chances in battle, etc.

There is no difference on combat. The only difference is the elite* that produced a leader can not produce a 2nd leader.

An example of how I like to use these elites* is when I need to take out a stronger defender (a pike) to get to a weak defender (a bow). This way my other elite has the easy target.

Ginger Ale and Whomp, thanks for the quick reply!
