Depends. From 4000 BC - 3000 BC, it's only 20. From 1000 AD - 2000 AD is a lot more. As the game progresses, the turns take up less years. There is a breakdown of the turns in the FAQ stickied in this forum.

Some wonders can became tourist atractions, which start to give money 1000 years later... OK, but how long is a 1000 years?

He! He! "How long is a 1000 years?" is like a trick question, isn't it? I mean how many turns is it?
That's the thing... it changes!!! At the start of the game, it'd be 20 turns... at the end, 1000 turns. :crazyeye: (Check the info box on the bottom right corner of the screen for the date.) But anyway, that's why the earlier you build a Wonder, the better - because the sooner you build it, the less turns it takes to get to 1000 years and that nice culture/commerce bonus. ;)

Ah, so a 1000 years IS a 1000 years, not x turns?

So, the answer to my question was a "La Pallisse" one:
"After hard research, I have concluded that a 1000 years is a 1000 years!"

What if the game is based on weeks? There will be no tourists?

When you capture a wonder, does the 1000 years start counting from when your Civ took it over, or still from the time of the build?

Does the conquering Civ get the culture from the wonder still?

Thanks,

Stunner :goodjob:

Does the AI cheat in combat rolls at Regent and lower difficulty levels? I've had elite swordsmen lose to warriors on flat ground, submarines lose to wooden frigates, destroyers lose to ironclads... sometimes I've lost 2 units trying to take that last hp off a spearman. And yes I'm well aware of terrain advantages of hills/mountains/rivers, and none of those were involved.

I don't think the AI cheats on combats. Maybe on the number of units, but not on actual combats.

As you know, fortify units and defending inside cities have a defensive bonus, which can be significant. Even flat ground has a defensive bonus (10%), but it seems you were just unlucky.

An elite swordsman attacking a warrior should have roughly 80% of chance of winning. So, in every 5 attacks, you should expect to lose one swordman.

Assuming that the warrior is veteran or regular, the chance lies more somewhere between 5 and 10% for losing. Although that it is still possible to lose frequently if luck is not on your side.

How do you save a screenshot? I thought you were supposed to press the "Print Screen" button, but nothing happens when I do.

Print Screen should work, but it doesn't save it as a file it copies to clipboard. Open up MS Paint or a photo editing program and select edit -> paste and it should come up.

Q: Does it matter whether a unit is regular/veteran/elite when I put it into an army? Does it make a difference?

The only difference is the amount of HP the army has. 3 regulars=9 HP. 3 Elites=15 HP. One of Each=12 HP. Etc.

Thanks for the help. That worked. :)

It makes no difference what you put into an army.
The only problem with putting an elite in an army that hasn't created a leader is it will not be able to generate a leader inside that army.

Personally I prefer to put in the elite* (that made the leader) and two vets. BTW the vets can promote to elite inside the army.

Check out ScreenPrint32, link in my sig. It overrides the PrtScrn button, and can save the shot as a picture file, or print it out, or both. And it still copies it to the clipboard, so that if you want to directly paste the pic into another app, it's there to do so.

I am playing 1.29f at Regent level. I am researching Writing but it takes 40 turns to complete whether I spend 1 or 4 gold per turn on research. Why?
