Just a quick one.

How does the airlift work.. I wanted to airlift a worker from one continent to another, both having an airport - but couldn't work out how

thanks

This is probably a very stupid question, but I just started playing and I can't find my Dad's manual! I keep getting the warning that my treasury is dangerously low. I cannot figure out how to start getting money except for starting a war. I checked that F1 Screen and no matter where I slid it, the best I could do was break even. What do I need to do? Thanks!

Welcome to CFC, brenter! :band:

On the sliders on the F1 screen, to maximize gold income make sure both the science (top) and luxury (bottom) sliders are at zero. This will do nothing for science or happiness, but will boost your gold.

The primary thing you should do is build roads, lots and lots of roads. Make a priority of hitting the tiles that citizens are working (you can tell which these are in the individual city screens). Also, build marketplaces, they boost income and happiness if you have luxuries hooked up.

By the way, the manual is next to worthless. You've already discovered the best place for information!

You cannot airlift every type of unit. Workers (armies, leaders...) for example, cannot be airlifted. Tanks etc can.

It's different in C3C. At least in the WW2 scenario, workers can be airlifted. I haven't checked this in an epic game yet (soft spot for pangaea maps:)).
Someone will clarify if airlifting workers is valid in a C3C epic game.

:thanx: This is my first post and I hope it comes out ok.
I caught this thread's predecessors (dating back to like March or April) and have recently followed them to here while reading big chunks of newbie questions/answers along the way. This has helped me get my first domination victory (on regent on [civ3]) and my first top category where the warrior tries to ring the bell at the end of a game [dance]. Thank you everyone for all the great tips and clarifications. :thanx:

I have a few questions and I'd search for answers, but the search seems disabled (if it's not, please let me know what I'm doing wrong), so I thought I'd try this out.

My question finally (the first of a few)....
I am going for a domination victory on a different regent game and am about to lose (lost) a UN vote. Is there any way the vote can be prevented or put off? IIRC it has been quite a few turns since the wonder was built and I don't remember if any vote?? decisions/popups??? came up around the time the wonder was built.

You'll find when you build the UN that you don't have to hold a vote, the same goes for the AI. This is what will have happened, however the opportunity will arise every 10 turns.
As for delaying it, you could always capture the city in which the UN was built, that's the only sure fire way of putting it off (once it's already built). Then you could just choose not to hold the vote.
Whilst it was being built you could have sabotaged the production. And before you even started the game -- if you've got PTW and or Conquests -- then you could have just turned off the option off at the beginning of the game.

Hope that helps, and welcome to CfC :) (even though you've been here for a while)

Thanks Grille, and everyone else who answers questions here!

Regarding Tsargrad's question on airlifting... I've had no problems airlifting workers in C3C normal games. Take your worker to the airport, activate him, and there will be a little parachute icon. Click in, and chose the city you want to send him to.

I have a question about MPPs... I'm at war with Maya (I have an MPP with the Incas, who've declared war). I have 3 turns left in a peace treaty with the Dutch. After my turn, Maya and the Dutch sign a MPP.

1. IF nothing else happens, and I attack Maya, will the Dutch declare war on me, causing no loss in rep to me?

2. BUT: what actually happens is that the Incans attack Maya, causing the Dutch to declare war on the Incans and attack, thus causing MY MPP to trigger. So I've lost rep, even though I've been patiently waiting for the peace treaty to expire to annhilate the Dutch?

Seems a bit unfair.

Windows XP (I'm Home version) has built in support for different types of users (Computer Admin, Limited, Guest). It seems C3 does not work from a Limited permissions account? (I get one of two errors: "Secenario file invalid" or some problem with fonts "game will now exit".) Works fine if I change the permissions to admin and reboot.

Is this a known "feature"? Is there a fix? TIA

Question for the experts & statisticians in here:

Do opponents get a D bonus from forts in your territory??

Yes, although I don't know of any studies to show this...

Thats what I thought, although hoped not.

Thanks for the bad news!!

Yes - this is a known "feature" - the problem (IMO) being WinXP. In order to correctly access all the needed files, you have to have Admin privileges to play C3C.

(IIRC, Firaxis is looking at ways to resolve this issue.)

Why does my unit options buttons(cut timber, mine, etc) sometimes go to the right of my screen when they normally are at the bottom?

Because you pressed backspace. Press it again to get it back. :)

Also, the Delete key hides/shows the buttons.

I get the message "too many cities" when I try to found a new city (I'm playing a Civ3PTW scenario with a huge map and many civilizations).

Is there a way to "cheat" this city-limit?

Does it make sense to keep playing this scenario?

Probably this question has been asked before, but the search function is disabled at the moment.

well first welcome to CFC, secondthe limit is 512 cityies for all civs combined IIRC. there really isn't sny way top cheat this, except raze cities, and abandon cities, sometimes you will raze a city and plop dow a settler right next to it, yo abandon your city right click it and hit abandon city. as for weather or not you should continue playing it, only if you want, that's not my descision to make

Hey there! I have an insanely dumb question: can you choose the color that your civ is when you start? I like to play as Japan and they are usually dark green, but once when I started a new game they were brick red. It does get boring to see the same color all the time and it would be nice to be able to change the colors.

Also, another question: When you try to take over an enemy city, will it only get destroyed if it is a size 1 like I have read? My boyfriend told me it was random that the city gets destroyed or that you get to install a new governor, but it seems after reading through stuff here that it only gets leveled if it is a size 1.

One more question! Is there any way to make the random players not all be culturally close to you? I am getting tired of playing against the Mongols, Indians, Chinese, and Koreans all the time now. Usually the game also chooses England and France all the time also, to finish the set off. I don't want to choose all the other civs but I don't like the random feature either, so what could I do?

By the way, I am playing with Civ3: PTW 1.27f.

Thanks!
