- You cannot choose your civ color when you start. Each civ has 2 colors, the preferred color, and the color it uses if its preferred color is taken by another civ. You can, however, alter these colors in the editor in the civilizations tab of the rules dialog.

- The city will be "autorazed" only if it is size 1 and has generated no culture for any civ. Therefore, a city can be size 1 and you will still get the option to keep it if it has at least some culture points. This may not be true if you are playing an old version of vanilla Civ. Be sure to get the latest patch.

- Welcome to CFC :band: :)

EDIT: arg you edited your post while I was posting ;)

- To make your neighbors not be culturally close to you, uncheck the "Culturally Linked Starting Locations" option in the pre-game settings screen.

Sorry about the editing! I couldn't remember the last question because I got distracted and I posted it anyway, but then I remembered it. Too bad about the color thing, I really wanted to get crazy with the colors. Is there any list of all the civ's two colors (including PTW)? That would be great if there was one. Thanks for the welcome! :) :)

For a list of colors, try going to your editor. Select Scenario | Custom Rules from the menu, click Ok, then select Rules | Edit | Civilizations. Cycle through the civilizations in the drop down box at the top, and look at their default and alternate colors. You can create your own scenario file with edited colors so that your favorite civ has the color you like ;)

The C3C readme says you should first load your vanilla save file into PTW. Then save it from PTW. That save file should be valid for C3C as well.

You *can* load vanilla saves in C3C directly, but it just isn't recommended. I had no problems doing that (except for total economy breakdown due to RCP...)

thanks :) unfortunatly i do not have PTW, (only in yhe ense hat it comes with Conquests.

Looks ;ike I will have to finish my current game before I load Conquests. .. Drat... :(

:hmm:
Not sure what you mean - in a sense, you have PTW on your HD when you install C3C.:)
(unless you deleted it?)

The PTW exe is in a folder called PTW in the root directory of Civ3.:)

i can play PTW separte from C#C even though i will be installing them both from the C3C CD?

THANKS! :D :D :D :D :D :D

I know that citizens working jungle or floodplains ( [c3c] added marshland to this, right?) can die of disease, but what are the actual numerical odds of that?

if i'm getting 10 gpt from a city building wealth, is that money increased from marketplaces & banks?

Hi, I've been playing Civ III GOY for about a month and a half now--lots of questions but I can browse around for most of the answers. However, I heard about 'settler factories' but can't find a complete description. I also heard about 'quick start' games that can be studied to see how better players do it--but can't find that either. I've only played Pharaoh and Homeworld before and never played anything online but would like to learn how.

I play on prince level and usually score around 2300 points. I am improving my game and would like to try my hand against humans instead of that cheating AI all the time.

Any advice for this newbie?

There seems to be an exploit associated with war mobilization. What is it, cuz this is a feature I regularly use.

Welcome to CFC, Rocinante! :band:

Settler factories are towns dedicated to a good balance between growth and production. It's very easy to put out a Settler every four turns. The definitive work on this is Bamspeedy's Babylon Deity Settlers in the War Academy, there's a lot of great stuff on that page!

@saintly_saint: If memory serves me correctly, the war mobilization exploit was that in one patch, they "corrected" a wartime shield bonus discrepancy by applying it to cover everything, military or otherwise. A player could then use this to basically have a form of solitary accelerated production, even after a war.

Everyone/anyone, please correct me if I misunderstood what I read on that one!

@xxaaaxx: don't know if anyone has ever worked out the disease odds, and who knows what C3C did to mess with it.

@ybbor: AFAIK, no. Improvements act on the wealth directly generated by the tiles, not on converted shields. So if you had 10 'base' gold from the tiles, that would be affected by markets, banks, stock exchanges, etc. But 40 shields being turned into gold will always be 5 (before economics) or 10 (after) regardless.

@Rociante: check some threads in the GOTM forum. USually setting up a settler factory early is key to a good score, and there is usually a discussion of settler factories in the more detailed game reports.

@saintly-saint and superslug. AFAIK that's not quite the explanation. Since the exploit is a game breaker and cannot be defeated except through editing the rules to ban mobilization (unless they fixed it in C3C, which still leaves PTW players SOL since there will apaprently be no more patched ) I'm not going to describe the exploit openly.

The "Quick Start" games started out in the Succession Games forum, but became a standard part of the Game of the Month offerings. Check out the Civ3 - Quick Games forum. :D

You'll find when you build the UN that you don't have to hold a vote, the same goes for the AI. This is what will have happened, however the opportunity will arise every 10 turns.
As for delaying it, you could always capture the city in which the UN was built, that's the only sure fire way of putting it off (once it's already built). Then you could just choose not to hold the vote.
Whilst it was being built you could have sabotaged the production. And before you even started the game -- if you've got PTW and or Conquests -- then you could have just turned off the option off at the beginning of the game.

Hope that helps, and welcome to CfC :) (even though you've been here for a while)
It sure did help - Thanks Gainy bo

IIRC I can turn off the option to win a UN vote in vanilla???
If so, can I still lose a UN vote when I disabled the diplomatic victory and can't win a UN vote myself??
