The game's combat calculations are worked out by a Random Number Generator. Each battle is worked out by a calculated chance. If you have Preserve Random Seed On, then the RNG's seed will never change. Ie, when you attack a unit, then re-load the game and attack the same unit, the outcome will not change.
If you turn Preserve random seed off, then repeat this process, the outcome can be different - although doesn't necessarily mean it will be every time.

Respawn AI players means that if you destroy an AI, they will be re-incarnated at another part of the map.

Hope that helps :)

"Preserve random seed" means that if you were to replay the same turn over again you would get the same order of random numbers. It discourages reloading to get get different results since if there is only one operation that uses a random number you would always get the same result.

"Respawn AI players" means that eliminated AI Civs will be respawned at a different location on the map if there is free space available. The respawned AI will start from scratch just like it did on the 4000 BC turn.

Svar, unless this has changed in one of the patches, then you are wrong. IIRC they get 2 workers, and 100 gold.

I have a question that was covered in a thread while back, but missed due to the disable search engine. My question is about the numbers next to the countries government type in the lower right bar. It tends to be different each game. I thought it was amount of units you can support, but it wasn't the same number the next game I played with the same government (monachry).

This has nothing to do with the Goverment type btw :)
It is the Tax/Science/Luxury rates of your Civilisation.
(Tax.Sci.Lux), or in example, at the start of the game, it is (5.5.0)
This means 50% is going to Tax, 50% is going to Science, and nothing is being spent on Luxuries.

Hope that helps :)

Ahh, that explains why my rate is a 10, 0, 0 right now. Because I turned off my science and luxury rate in my game, as I managed to get the Great Libarty, and decided to earn some money for a few thousand years. :D Thanks the help Gainy Ho.

What does the sun icon in the info box mean?

I have a feeling it's probably not too important, but it has recently appeared in the upper L.H. corner of the info box & I just can't figure out what it's for.

Is there a quick answer for this?

It has something to do with global warming, based on pollution. Get those workers out there to clear the pollution, and see if the sun disappears.

I can't remember, how do you move a stack of units all at once?

as in move a nine cannons all at once instead of one at a time?

Thanks!

For vanilla Civ 3 (can also be used for PTW/C3C):

Left-click cursor on a cannon, hit "J" key, then position cursor where you want those cannons to go and left-click on the square. :)

There are two icons on the botom right part of the screen. One is for moving all units of the same type, and the other for all the units in the square (not sure though).

How do you take screenshots?

And

Does the 1.12 beta patch comes with the previous versions (1.10 and 1.11)? I was playing fine till i installed the patch, then the startup screen was all changed, where it said new game it was actually the load game, and in the top it showed "Bult Barricade", something i have never seen and when i clicked on it it looked like the "new game" function, but when i was playing i could notice the date was "Dec." (december i supose) instead of years, and it never changed. Also i couldnt upgrade my units after bring iron to my citys. And a lot of things were misplaced too, like when selecting the earth temperature and age, it was all misplaced, wrongly.

Oh... I was only half right... that would explain why my rapid pollution reduction efforts didn't change the indicator.
Thanks for correcting me, silver 2039.

I would curious to have the word of someone who has beaten Sid level. I tried playing that level once, and it was laugh-out-loud funny watching me get crushed... What victory did you achieve and what was your score. The Mayans had nine cities by 3000 BC... this all explains the power of Almighty Sid...:crazyeye:

edit: Padma:Just to stay under the radar:scan: ;) , I'll ask a "Quick Question" How exactly did your victory happen?
I stand corrected(for the second time on this thread:crazyeye: )

Just press "Print Screen" on yourkeyboard. ;) Okay, that's a bit to smart-alecky. But it *is* the basic method.

First, let me point you to the FAQ thread. the answer you want is given here. As for uploading them to the forums, this thread is probably the best help there.

IIRC, if you install the *beta* patches, you need to install them in order; they do NOT encompass the previous patches in each - that waits for *final* patches

You problem is unfortunately all too common. A pointer to text gets screwed up in the game, so you get weird stuff displayed. The only solution I am aware of is to remove each patch in reverse order, then the game, then reinstall.

Ok, I know the usual rules when there's a chance to hut-pop a settler.
But: if I pop a hut by culture when founding a city, is that respective settler regarded as used up, i.e. is there a chance to get a settler out of the hut then?

I'm not sure. On the one hand, the new town is already there, OTOH it shows pop status=0 [:crazyeye:] and the settler used for founding the town still 'knees' there. So...?

Arg. This is confusing.

When you pop a hut with a Settler, the tax/sci/lux rates are adjusted after the hut has been popped. This would suggest that the City hasn't actually been founded when the hut is popped -- unless there is a specific sequence RE Tax adjusting and popping huts :crazyeye:
If my original statement was the case, then the Settler would still be counted as being there(cause the City hadn't been founded yet), and thus ruining your chances of getting another Settler from the hut.
That seems logical enough for me, but I am unsure of it's credibility.
Catt would be the person who would know... (PM)
