Sorry, both of your are right, of course.
Otoh, the attack bonus vs Barbarians is eliminated on Monarch level.
According to the combat calculator I linked the attack bonus goes down from +400% at Chieftain to +200%, +100%, +50%, +25% as difficulty increases, and only reaches zero at Deity. It hasn't been updated for Demigod or Sid, so I've no idea what applies in those cases. Of course the calculator could be wrong

Trading workers.
Thank you guys. I have checked all those conditions and still the option is not available, maybe is a bug. btw is not that i want to sell my workers but it bothers me that the option is not there.

Is there some kind of restriction in PTW on selling the worker you are given to start with? Or is that just a convention set up by honourable rules committees like RBCiv?

We assume you play full-throttle default rules, i.e. no mod or something?

AFAIK workers are always listed at the very bottom of all those various trade-able items (wheras MAs are always on top).

So...well... maybe you want to just use that white arrow button to scroll the items and/or shut the all the other 'tabs' ("MAs","Cities" etc etc).
Also: I guess it's pretty much difficult to trade workers to 'boat people' (civ in question has no city left but a settler).
;)

Other than that: save your game and post it!
(upload feature discription is in the FAQ)

Hello everyone,

total newbie question here I'm sure.

I'm used to Civ 1 or 2 where the loss of a city in war is unfortunate, but not game-ending.

Every time I play 3, I sooner or later lose a city and get the message 'you have suffered a humiliating conquest defeat' - and game over. Equally, if I take one city from an AI civ, that civ is defeated.

Is this a setting I can turn off? I much prefer the gradual conquest of a Civ to being able to defeat them by knocking over one city.

Thanks,

Simon

First, Infinite Jest, A GREAT BIG WELCOME to CFC! :)

This Post is based upon the assumption that you are NOT playing the "Elimination Game"!
If you are, SKIP this post and read the ones that address that issue! :)

Maybe you should try playing at a higher level....if you want to avoid winning when you capture ONE AI city.

For example, if you play at Deity level, the AI will be developing cities at a more rapid rate than Chieftain level. (AI only needs 60% of the normal unit cost!) ;)

Now, if you're worried about losing quickly, play at a LOWER level! ;)

I believe that is called Elimination mode. I could be wrong as I've never wanted to play it.

You can set it when you start a game, it is in the 'Game Options' section along with options for Regicide, Accelerated Production, Preserve Random Seed and many others.

EMan,

You can always run a deficit on Chieftain without losing any units or improvements.

@Infinite Jest, it looks like annares' guess was right. The following is from the PTW civilopedia :

So just make sure elimination is unchecked when you start a new game :

If you click on "default rules", it'll give you the standard victory condition. Whenever you play a scenario, you'll have to redo the rules in a normal game. Also, turn off respawn - that's an annoying feature.

ehmmmm, I think it does. AFAIK the no-penalty condition is applied for the Chieftain difficulty level, independent of the government

edit: sorry, someone had already answered. didn't catch that...

Dianthus: brilliant - I'd tried changing the 'allow domination victory' and 'allow conquest victory' settings, to no effect.

/goes home, plays till the early hours :)

I have a question related to screen shots. I understand how to take one, my question is when you launch the game, the full screen is taken up. How do you view the game with the tool bar at the bottom of the screen displayed? Once I am ready to paste the shot, I want to be able to bring up the MS paint program minimized at the bottom. Thanks.

If you've got Paint opened, you could press alt+tab to go to paint while civ is running. The "windows" key still gives access to the start menu.

You could press the windows button (down next to ctrl and alt).
Or a much better, easier way, press Alt then Tab, 'cept hold down alt. This will flick between all your open programs/windows.

Welcome to CfC :)

Thank you for the fast answer! I've used alt-tab before for accessing the previous app, but hadn't tried the other ideas. I'll give them a try.
