It's easy to be behind in the ancient age because the expansionist civs are getting free techs from goody huts and trading alot. Check with the others often to see if you can make a trade. Trade, trade, trade :)

Any links to a description of how unhappyness from rushing with forced labor works? I have just captured a size 1 city, with the one unhappy pop complaining about 25% "Stop the aggression against our mother country" and 75% "We cannot forget the cruel oppresion you bore down on us". This sounds like some serious whipping has been going on.

Question:
Is there any online resource where I can see detailed Terrain and Resource values/characteristics - similar to that in the Civilopedia? What I'm looking for is to see how many food, shields and gold each terrain type & resource produces - and also where the different resources can appear.

I found the Resources page on the CivFanatics page, but it doesn't tell me which terrain types the different resources appears in.

Hope someone can help! :D

that chart is for civ2, it doesn't list things completely

The reference I use (all the time) is "Real Unit and Terrain Data Compiled from Civilopedia" here . It has a lot more than the Terrain and Resource values, and it is a pdf (3.52 MB) but I find it very usful.

Why do workers appear in the diplomacy screen and can be traded but other units can't?

Can I set up a scenario where I can have other units be available for such trade from my capital?

@Beloyar, did you try asking over in Customization as Arathorn suggested?

Workers are special and can be bought/sold/traded. That was a gameplay decision from the creators. I know of no way to make other units tradeable, but you might check in the Customization and Creation forum for a better answer on that.

I just wanted to say thanx to every one that has help me so far and welcomed me here.

just a Quick Question: Whats the easiest way to get the computer to give up a city? I had them beat down to two cities and asked for the one that was not their capital (doy) and they still would not give it to me so i had to smite them. :)

what is the keyboard shortcut to create a quick restart using the same criteria if i am not happy with my current start, i'm sure i knew it once, tia

Press Control + Shift + Q.
That'll take you back to the main menu, then just go for quick start.
Hope that helps :)

I don't know if there is an "easiest way" . . . in fact, I've only once managed to get a city through negotiation. The AI, understandably, values its cities above all else. Remember, the city you're asking for is half of their empire! On an odd note, I once tried to pawn off some really cruddy tundra Viking cities on someone else, just giving them away for nothing, and they considered it an insult. I threw in some cash and they still thought it was a terrible deal.

At the Chief level, I would try to use your research advantage to stay ahead of the AIs in tech and never give them tech. But if you're trading, I have just one reminder. If you sell anything intangible (maps, techs, communications), make sure to do it during your turn, and then sell the same information to every civ you can. Try to do it in decreasing order of that civ's likely resources, because such things are devalued as they become widespread. If you sell it to a civ when they ask, they'll turn around and sell it to everyone else, and they'll get the profits from your research/exploration. This happened to me in my first regent game. I got map making first, and during the next AI turn each civ offered me quite a bit of gold for it. I turned them all down until Babylon, when I accidently hit the accept button (I'm not even sure what I got for it). During my next turn I tried to sell map making but Babylon had already sold it to every single civ on the continent. I didn't reload because that turn I had also gotten a GSL just in time to beat various civs to the Pyramids.
