Make sure to un-check everything.

If i'm not mistaken, you should see the map as per normal, only without city captions...hope this helps.

Oh yeah - I forgot about that, even though I use it on occasion to spot those pesky AI resources under cities.

However, you can't play in clean map mode.

I,m finelly getting c3c this weekend any tips

I'm no expert, but from what I read you can forget about vanilla/PTW civ traits/techs/govts/wonders, and Ring City Placement.

Why doesn't Industrious have any tagged buildings, and will it unbalance the game if I tag coliseum and factory as Industrious?

PS: I'm also tagging city wall with "expansionist" because that seems like a weaker trait and logically walls are to protect young new settlements.

Industrious is pretty strong, IMO, without tagged buildings. To give them cheaper factories, usually made in cities that are getting extra shields in the city square already, could be unbalancing.

Industrious is the strongest trait in VC3/PTW, and second strongest in C3C. All are good and have their niches, but Industrious is pretty powerful. I don't really think it needs any more bonus' than it already has. Of course, modding it is up to you...why don't you try it out and see what you think?

The tags are there so the AI can be 'programmed' to build certain things (for improvements anyways). So by tagging them as Industrious, I don't think anything will happen. I feel industrious is already powerful enough anyways, it would only unbalance the game if it were to half the cost of those buildings.

Edit: Cross post...

You're probably right about factories, but I think I'll still go with coliseum. Gainy bo, if I'm not mistaken civs only pay half price for improvements tagged with one of their traits.

Alot of buildings are tagged as being commercial, but commercial civs don't get 'em for cheaper. It is to do with build-style.

Are you sure? I sometimes use clean map mode to track down pollution, and workers seem to operate normally when everything except pollution is hidden.
Does it go back to normal if you "press enter to end turn" ?

After avidly playing Civ III C for like the last 6 months (why can my female roomate never relate to my discussion of the merits of playing the Ottomans :) ) I finally decided to download some new scenarios... ok.. here is my make me sound like a newbie question...

HOW DO I INSTALL THEM...

I downloaded Procifica's American Civil War pack.. the directions said, once you zip it into your CIV III directory it should be playable... how?

I scoured the FAQ, but when I start up Conquests, it can't find the file, its not listed as an option on ANY menu, I even moved the BIQ file over into the scenarios directory, it then goes in the CIV-Content start, and the map shows, but it cant seem to find any of the other files...

OK, short question long and then shorter... anyone got a quick FAQ on how to install then PLAY the downloadable scenarios... the FAQ only talks about installing new units

thanks in advance...

Best place to ask for installation help is the thread itself. Usually there's a readme or somesuch with it, and it does sound like you found that. If you're still having problems, then ask in the scenario/mod thread.

Put them in the 'Conquests' sub-folder of your Civ3 installation directory, assuming you've used the default installation options. So you should have '...Civ3\Conquests\...' - IIRC there's a 'Scenarios' folder in there, so that's where any .BIQs should go.

Corruption, why is it so high? I mean the game in general sets the value too high. I’m loosing 14 out of 20 shields in some cities even after building courthouses. The forbidden palace helps but only very locally. What else can I do rather than whine?

Try getting your cities to size 6 and make their population happy to trigger a "We love the Shabbaman (or king) day". That reduces corruption in those cities. Try to build cities as close to your capital as well.
If you're playing PTW or vanilla civ, look for threads on the Ring City Placement (imho) exploit.

Can someone please tell what are the main differences between corruption in vanilla/ptw and c3c? Just a rough outline... As I learned ring placement are no longer there, so what is the best way, now? I see that corruption is a bit lower in c3c...?

I THINK the main differences are -

RCP is fixed. Now cities that are the same distance from the capital are ranked in the order they are built.
The FP has no effect on the rank of cities. It increases OCN (thus reducing rank corruption in all cities) and reduces distance corruption in cities closer to the FP than to the capital.

Should I bother to build the Iron Works in a city that is rife with corruption? It's the only city I can build it in.

You might as well if you can get it built despite the corruption. Then if you ever go Red, consider building the SPHQ in that city.

Alas, I play Vanilla Civ3, my friend.

Couple of questions -

Is there an easy (or at least doable) calculation to work out how much an AI will give you for peace? Eg. how many units / cities will I have to destroy before he will give me Theology?

Do units lost at sea (in galleys in sea / ocean squares, or lost when a boat is sunk by an enemy) count for war weariness?
