Can an ai win a diplomatic victory by calling and winning a UN vote while myself (the most annoying civ on the planet) tries to win a conquest victory? Reason I ask is two of my enemy ais are buiding the UN. I no longer allow a cultural victory since my last conquest attempt was cut short by my winning a cultural victory. Am I going to have to inactuvate diplomatic victory as well?

rainmaker,
yes, you've got to next time if you don't want to take the challenge :). Whoever builds the UN is allowed to call the election and the AI tends to call for it when she's about to win it ! In your current game, immediately attack the cities the ai is building the UN (try F7 - WOnder Screen to get the neccessary infos).
BTW: your conquest approach seems to be a little weak if you haven't achieved it when Fission is around. instead of toggling off any victory condition the ai could beat you to (problably all of them :D) better hone your strategies, e.g. have a look at the war academy.

good luck!!

IIRC They pop up IBT, so if you finish them during your turn you should win

No, that doesn't make any difference. I never go for conquest victories, but the last time I got one and had AI respawn on, after I had destroyed their respawned new city thing they didn't respawn again :) Not completely sure of the circumstances at which this happens.

AFAIK, they only respawn once, so after you kill them a second time, they stay dead.

@A4 - I am not aware of any differences in WW between versions.

I have usually waited until I can get the mech inf to make my major move for conquest victory. Anyway, no more diplo vic unless I want to go for it.

thanks

hey, rainmaker, mech infantry surely rocks but you can achieve the same effect with cavalry. after entering the middle ages forget about the upper tech path (monotheism, theology, education and so on), this only brings culture crap - but you cannot destroy a single unit with cathedrals  ! instead, go for the lower branch: invention, gunpowder, metallurgy, finally: military tradition! don't sell it to anyone, but rush/upgrade a bunch of cavalry and get them going against the underpowered ai spearmen! stop research completely, then, and use the gold to keep on building and maintaining your cavalry units. this will get you a pretty score :) .

If you can afford to, use spies to sabotage production in cities building UN. Eventually you're going to have to build it yourself to keep it from falling into the right hands.

Just wondering if A.I builds the SDI defence system against nukes?. In all the games i've played they've never built it. It seems as long as you can make it to the Nuke era and you have uranium, you can nuke your way to an easy victory.

The game i'm playing now, (monach) I finally was able to build nukes, and I quickly took out the huge Sumeria because they never built their defence system.

I don't have the civilpedia in front of me, but as I recall that tech doesn't do anything other than the SDI. So the AI would go for that one last, even though the SDI is a wonder-tech. Spaceship part techs have a higher value to it, so it will try and get those techs first.

Sorry I'm not sure how you call it.

After the last tech you get, you have the ability to build some type of Nuclear defence system. In my games the cpu will never build this meaning that I can nuke everyone of their cities and take them out of the game :(

Thanks for your strategy input. Sounds good. You see I have a problem committing to a definit goal. While I like to try and win by domination or conquest, as the game progresses I kind of want to do everything until I get near the end. Thus I never really focus until it gets almost too late. Right mow (modern era) I'm still torn betwenn conquest, domination, and space race. Sort of, if I can't win one way I'll do the other.

Maybe next time I should only allow me one type of victory and go for it.

Flexibility is a virtue.

My turn again :D What are the actual % success rates for spies? I know if the AI is in com or fas, then success rate is lowered, and that veteran spy has better % than regular spy, but what are the actual numbers?

Good question. Also, is there an elite (or otherwise better than veteran) spy agency? What kind of reputation penalties do you get for using spies against a civ you're at war with? Do counterespionage sting operations hurt your reputation?

And since Empire is a starcraft fan, what do you get with a high templar and heroin? A narchon.
