With catapults I have missed 6 out of 6 tries.
With Trebuchets and cannon it is about 5 out of 6 tries.
You don't have areally effective bombarment unit unitil artillary.

Forget about fighter bombers. They miss more than they hit. Use them for Recon or AS missions. The only effective bombing plane I have found is the B-17. My games usually don't last long enough to built stealth bombers.

Do captured workers get the industrial speed bonus?

No. :)

The only exception I can think of is where you are an Industrial civ and you RE-CAPTURE one of your workers that had been enslaved! :)

Oh well, thanks.

How about govt and replaceable parts bonuses.

.....BUT Slaves never work as fast as your Industrial Workers! :)

Every time I beat one AI. there is one that comes in and just mops the floor with me. I play on warlord, and I would like some tips :king:

What civ, what sort of map? When do you go to war with the first AI? Perhaps you're going to war too early? Try playing defensively and peacefully until you're ready to take on anyone around you, and don't fight wars with "Pyrrhic victories" that badly damage your military. I mean, only fight enemies you can beat easily and quickly, because otherwise even if you win you're in a weak position and that other civ gets you.

Otherwise, practice fighting limited wars, don't wear your forces down taking over the whole civ, but instead take cities near resources and luxeries and especially good land. This should leave you strong enough to fight off that killer civ.

oops

I'm pretty sure that the rule is captured workers work at one half the speed of your regular workers. So if your regular workers are industrious, then your captured workers work at three-fourths of normal in VC3/PTW and three-fifths of normal in C3C.

Hmm....must check....

Thanks a4phantom. I played on a standerd size map with 7 rivals and went to war about 1 ad. and I play as the persians

Ah, that's a different story. Persia's magnificant UU would be wasted without early wars. Maybe you're attacking before you have enough Immortals built? Also, how do you decide who to attack? With Immortals, I would go for the strongest first. You know, like in jail, where you attack the strongest guy on your first night, and even if you lose everyone else will know you're too crazy to mess with. Except you won't lose, because you have a 4 attacker when the strongest defense (aside from the Hoplite, who only the Greeks will have) is 2. So build up a huge army of Immortals before you start, and then start carving up your neighbors one by one. Don't wear down your forces by conquering every last city, especially cruddy ones hidden in jungle (although with footsoldiers like Immortals terrain matters less, but such cities are hardly worth having). Instead focus on 1: taking what's valuable to you (luxaries, Wonders of the World, large cities or strategically placed cities) and 2: crippling other civs as permanently as possible (taking their capital, all of their big cities, all of their coastal cities if they only have a few, their luxaries if you can, their resources, especially IRON, for sure) without huge expenditures on your part that leave you vulnerable to another civ. A benefit is that when you leave a few weak cities standing you can sign a peace treaty in which they should give you any tech you're missing and whatever gold and workers they have left. If you feel threatened on another border or that further warring is not worthwhile, don't hesitate to sign a peace treaty as soon as you have their iron and capital, that will put them behind for the rest of the game. Follow this pattern one neighbor at a time, and soon you should have a buffer of impotent ironless civs around you. Focus on the strongest and on very aggressive civs like the Aztecs and Zulus first.

You'll also want to wait until you have a couple of cities with barracks to keep building Immortals as you lose some in battle and as your unit limit expands with new cities, because of course you will enter your Golden Age and more than likely want to dedicate your capital or another big city to Wonder building. Your invasion force should be big enough to do the job without reinforcements (when your forces start to stretch thin would be a good time to make peace, as long as you have their iron and capital). Meanwhile, the Immortals you build during the war should be enough to defend your core cities.

Disclaimer: this is mostly conjecture, I've only played as the Persians once. I prefer their little brother, the Ottomans.

As a side note to a4Phantom's very good "how to go to war"

Make sure that you are making the most of each attack by looking at your terrain around you. This may be common knowledge but I find myself forgetting to attack from a position of power(hill, forrest, mountain) and if possible do not attack across rivers as it gives the defender an advantage.

Also, are you leaving your core undefended or weakly defended when you go to war? Early on I always try to keep one spear per city to defend the homeland while I'm away expanding the territory.

My last sugestion go to the SG area of the forum and follow along (lurk) some of the games going on there. Doing this raised my game from chieftan to monarch in no time at all. There are some absolutely fantastic players there that do things I would never have thought of to try. I am currently playing in one called GK 's Training day game. It is a very very long thread but it has an amazing amount of good info there to improve your game. Give it a look.

Good luck and keep asking questions it's the only way to learn :goodjob:

Do you get war happyness in government types that do not get war weariness?

Why do workers appear in the diplomacy screen and can be traded but other units can't?

Can I set up a scenario where I can have other units be available for such trade from my capital?

(In PTW)

Yes, even governments which do not suffer from war weariness can benefit from war happiness. War weariness is tracked in such governments, too, it just doesn't affect them.

Workers are special and can be bought/sold/traded. That was a gameplay decision from the creators. I know of no way to make other units tradeable, but you might check in the Customization and Creation forum for a better answer on that.

I'm always behind in the tech race on warlord and can"t figure out how to catch up with AIs. I play on the Gold editon of civ3 with the persians.

Some things to try:
1. Build more cities near your Palace
2. Build libraries
3. Trade Techs with the AIs
4. Go to war with the AI...they'll give you Tech(s) if you'll give them Peace!
5. "Pop" Goodie Huts.

Just 5 items off-the-top-of-my-head! :)
