That's right. note that it has to be in the city radius, as opposed to being next to the city square....

Any way to not launch your spaceship once you build all components? Or must you launch it?

Yep, you have to launch. Just don't build that last component.

Edit: snipped a comment that was supposed to be for Short Tips - it's been a long day and there are many forums

Neil.

The main advantage I see about the AI losing its rep is that it gives you a better chance to get gpt off them, as other AIs will not accept gpt for techs. Not sure about embargos or isolating them.

BTW, Thanks for the advice. It seems MPPs need to be used carfully.

There's also the non-proliferation advantage, meaning that that if other civs won't buy or sell techs or trade resources with them, they're effectively weakening eachother relative to you.

Is the PTW patch that is listed for all versions of the game. I read a good portion of the thread and came away confused. Since my game is in English, I would therefore, suppose that I need a patch specifically for this game. Oh well, confused as ever.

hey, thanks for anyone who can help, I've got some more newb questions :)

I read the whole FAQ and am SO happy now that I know the equation for culture flip.. It was so frustrating when I had no idea how it worked or how to stop it. Still have some questions before I can be an expert culture-flipper-stopper...

--What units count as "garrison" units? Obviously military units, but what about things with no attack/def value, eg Artillery, Bombers, Workers, slave Workers, settlers?
--Do armies count as 1 unit for garrison purposes, or as the number of units inside the army, or as the number of units inside the army + 1?
--Will your capital city ever flip? Since in C3C my military leaders can't build wonders, I often use them in late game to leap frog my palace around if I can afford to. I'm guessing this is safe, since distance from capital would essentially be zero, and its worked so far, but I get nervous!

thanks again for any help,
calchas

(demi god is HARD!!!)

Two more quick questions (sorry!)

-- Has anyone written a FAQ or info post on spying? Would be interested to see what the odds or factors are in success, and also how spy 'experience' works in c3c
-- If you spy on an enemy civ, and that provokes them to declare war, does that count as a defensive war for the purposes of war weariness?

Really hope the answer is yes for the latter. .only because when they spy on you, you're not given the choice of a no-fault war, so I don't see why they AI should get one..

I'm pretty sure that it's a defensive war for the spy question. It's a common tactic used when you're in a WW gov and want the Ai to declare on you. As for the FAQ about spying, don't know. Of course, you're more than welcome to try one out.

As for your first post (BTW: You can edit your post to add questions. The edit button is in the lower right hand side. We'd prefer you do it that way instead of posting twice. No worries! ;)) any unit with an a/d => 1/1 is considered a 'garrison unit'. So Workers, bombers, arty, etc do not count as that. I think. Pretty sure tho. An army counts as one, then each unit inside it counts as one. So a four army MI would count as five. Again, I think, but am pretty sure.

I've heard of AI capitlas flipping once or twice, but the palace is supposed to keep the city from flipping. On this I'm not even going to say I think because I'm not really sure. But the way I understand it is that the capital doesn't flip. Of course, every time someone says that, someone else says "But I had such-and-such capital flip to me!". So on that one I have no idea, I've heard it go both ways.

According to Oystein's articale on war weariness [1] you do not get the war happiness if they declare war based on a failed spy mission.

I can't remember if I've had my Golden Age or not yet. Is there any way to check, other than attempting to trigger it?

You might be able to see the results of the growth and productivity spurts on the histograph charts.

What were you doing? Fighting?

You could open your .sav up in CRpViewer (see the link in my sig) and look for the Start Golden Age event in the event log. I.e. the following is a cropped screenshot of the last game I played:

Very nice Dianthus... many thanks.

It turns out I had not triggered my Golden Age, so I used it to push myself into the Industrial Age, and the Tech lead too. How I managed to restrain myself from using my Immortals until the late Middle Ages is beyond me. This is my first Monarch game.

also if you have not trigered your golden age your UU will be buildable even if it's obselte

How do you trigger a GA with a strongly defensive UU (Hoplite, Swiss Merc, French guy with gun)? Send them to pillage?

Have the AI attack the UU and if the UU wins the battle it will trigger the GA.

I was looking for strategies to make this happen.

I know this is a dumb question, but what is UU and GA?
