Cathy Dennis was discovered by American Idol creator Simon Fuller in the mid-80s, while singing for another band. She was originally recruited to work with producer Dancin' Danny D, but was later signed to Polydor Records as a solo artist. In 1990, Cathy released her debut album "Move To This", and released her first single "Just Another Dream." The song peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100, and sparked the public's interest as Cathy, the pop artist. Cathy's follow-up single, and the song she's most known for, "All Night Long (Touch Me)," fared ever better, peaking at No. 2. Cathy continued to have success with other singles, like the bittersweet "Too Many Walls" (No. 8) and club smashes "C'Mon And Get My Love" (with D-Mob) and "Everybody Move."
After the momentum of "Move To This" slowed down, Cathy returned to the pop scene with her follow-up album "Into The Skyline," which was produced mostly by Shep Pettibone (who was Madonna's producer of choice at the time). "Into The Skyline" didn't share the same success as "Move To This", but did produce two minor hits "You Lied To Me" (No. 32) and "Irresistible".
After "Into The Skyline," Cathy took a break from the spotlight and began working on a brand new project, an album which was going to be called "Inspiration," which was more of an R&B/soulful sound than her previous projects. Cathy feared the project was veering too far away from the music she wanted to make, so the project was evenutally scrapped. The only song that surfaced from the "Inspiration" sessions was "S.O.S." which was featured on the BEVERLY HILLS 90210 THE COLLEGE YEARS soundtrack.
Her last album to date is the remarkable "Am I The Kinda Girl?" (1996) which features a new sound from Cathy: a 60s-infused collection of earthy, pop/rock songs, which distanced her from her pop/club sound she was primarily known for. "Am I The Kinda Girl?", which featured the hits "West End Pad" and the Kinks cover "Waterloo Sunset," was released in the UK and stalled in the charts at No. 78, remaining one of the 1990's greatest unknown gems.
Cathy hasn't returned to recording since, but has written many of today's pop hits, including Britney Spears' "Toxic" and Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out Of My Head," as well as many other songs for the Spice Girls, S Club 7, Rachel Stevens, Kelly Clarkson, and many more who keep Cathy's name still in the charts.
