Quick Modding Questions Thread

@ need my speed:

First, I had to take the CIV4CivilizationsSchema from K-Mod to get rid of 81 * 5 errors related to the "BBAI Victory Strategy" tags (which were preventing me from loading the file). :D

Then I clicked on 158 errors to get rid of the MEMORY_INQUISITION tag (so 2 leaders of yours don't have this tag...). :D :D

Unfortunately, none of your new leaders appeared in the dropdown menu (the single exception to BtS was a TXT_KEY_LEADER_JULIUSCAESAR which you have probably changed). :(

The new leaders were probably not validated by the CIV4CivilizationInfos file since I don't have it (like if you make them non-playable in this file, they logically won't appear).

Ah... That is a good point. I do believe the game loads even if nothing of a new civilisation exists, so if you're willing to go through all the trouble again, see the attached .rar. I have commented out the BBAI tags, but sadly I can't automatically comment out the inquisition tags, as they use multiple lines, some of which are found in other tags (<iMemoryRand> and <MemoryAttitudePercent>, as well as the headers <MemoryDecay> and <MemoryAttitudePercent>).

And indeed! I apparently hadn't added that inquisition tag to Massinissa (one leader has two of those tags), thank you!

(After x errors: playercolors, units, buildings):

it looks like it works as I said, in the order of the LH file.

Huh... Then why does my game not follow that rule?

For example:

Gaius Octavius is Augustus Caesar. He is at the alphabetical place where you would expect 'Augustus' to be (as he is known in the game's files).

Meanwhile, Tandi is at the place where you would expect 'Tandi' (her file / folder) to be, but she is not at the place where you would expect 'TXT_ ...' to appear.

'The Witch-king' appears where you would expect someone called 'WitchKing' to appear; his file / folder is called 'WitchKing'.

'Robert House' appears where you would expect someone called 'House' to appear, but his file / folder is called 'mrhouse'. His .xml tag is LEADER_HOUSE, however, which would fit. But changing LEADER_AUGUSTUS to LEADER_GAIUS_OCTAVIUS doesn't change anything, which seems paradoxical.

'Knut' appears where you would expect 'Canute' to be; his file / folder and tag are 'Canute' / LEADER_CANUTE.

Also, you can see Mao Zedong being in the spot where you would expect 'CHINESE_LEADER' to be; this has been the case since the very first time I launched Civilization IV Beyond the Sword.

And as you can see, the list ends with Zara Yaqob, not with Hussein or Civilis. Civilis, by the way, appears where you would expect 'Civilis' to be (his file / folder and tag), but not where you would expect 'Gaius Iulius Civilis' to appear.

There are more examples, but yeah... Here is an album of four pictures: http://imgur.com/a/nbFCS

Thank you, though! :)

You mean this?

Quick: 330
Normal: 500
Epic: 750
Marathon: 1,500

Your mod is specific: the period covered is relatively much shorter (I think...).

I like to play from Ancient times to Future era in 5,000 turns to have a real feeling of a slow change and to enjoy each era. People who play your mod probably want it faster and furious!

Make a Poll in your forum!

Well, I am glad you said 5000 turns, as that is the actual length I have been (sort of) shooting at :ar15:

I haven't really got to the point of working on the gamespeed scaling stuff, as I am still trying to make a 'standard' pattern for it.

How do you make a poll? It is something I have never actually done (or thought much about doing) but I think it would certainly be an interesting excercise.

The fast and furious-ness of it, will actually come from other methods (Like peace not being an entirely peaceful affair, and your borders being far less 'solid').

When you open a new thread, you have below a section entitled "Additional Options".

At the bottom are the Poll options.

Huh... Then why does my game not follow that rule?
I think your problem is that you're expecting the game to sort LHs based on any criterion (text, tag, folder name). It literally just lists them based on the order they are defined in the XML.

Changing their name or tag doesn't change that, but moving their entry around in the XML probably would.

It's easy to get this impression because Firaxis arranged them in alphabetical order, but the game is rather literal about the order of XML entries.

But my game doesn't sort them based on the order of appearance in the .xml file, as shown above; isenchine got a whole different list than I did, even though we're using the same files. So for isenchine, the game indeed sorted them on the order in which they appear in the .xml file - but for me, the game doesn't do that, and I'm at a loss how or why. I would like a nice, alphabetically ordered list, but...?

You can test it for yourself by downloading the files I provided and looking at the screenshots I made.

Hi, I've been lurking in this forum since Civ 3, finally a post :)

Simple question: Is there a way to rip models (specifically the city buildings models) and import them into Blender or into anything that can export them to .FBX?

I would like to make a utility/virtual reality experience (I develop with the Oculus Rift) that allows players to load their World Builder files and take a look at their cities from ground level. Maybe even walk around within them and interact with the civilians living there and the military units stationed there. These civilians dialogue would depend on the status of the city.

Could possibly even develop a little RPG out of it, and the effects of playing this would save to your world builder file. Could even possibly play out battles, and rather than use the games randomized results, you yourself could be a unit on the battlefield.

If anyone is interested in this (I know civ 4 is old, maybe it would be better to plan this out with 5?) let me know. From what I've heard, civ4 world builder files can be loaded into civ5 so maybe I could even come out with something that works for both!

Collaboration anyone? I would have a lot more time to do programming if someone was willing to collaborate and either rip the necessary models, or model them from scratch (I'm sure this would look even better depending on your skills).

Thanks,
-Kevin

It is possible to import civ 4 nif files into Blender yes. Not rip them though. That would be well,

Link to video.

Niftools is pretty handy for importing nifs into and out of blender. Just keep in mind; When exporting do not export skin partions if you plan to use the nif in civ 4. I do not know why but civ 4 can't handle whatever data skin partion is.

Oh, then I've misinterpreted your post.

How to fix this ? I have only INDEX 4, A, B. Where is C, D, E, ... Z ?

The times I have had that happen it was either

1) a graphical problem with the last or next item

OR

2) XML problem with the next item - and error in the Class Infos entry or mismatch between the class and default on the Class Infos and in the unit/building Infos.

Thanks clanky

I suppose you may be correct that fireaxis might not like that, so that would leave 1 choice: I would need the building models "cloned". Any 3d modelers out there willing to collab?

Is there a better forum/thread for utility development collabs where I might find a modeler (on civfanatics.com that is)?

Is this utility even worth my breath or am I the only one who ever wanted to become a citizen in my empire?

Thanks :scan:
