Quick Questions and Answers

8. For some reason my game crashes when I try to raze any city I previously conquered. This happens in both DX9 and DX11 mode, no matter which city I am trying to raze.

I need to raze some cities as I conquered/settled them too close together so the citizens can't work enough farms/plantations to keep the food produce up, without working tiles in other nearby cities, which in turn makes 'those' cities have trouble keeping the food produce high enough.

9. The Artillery problem still persists, however now the option to set-it-up-for-attack seems to have completley disappeared from it's menu.. against both cities and land units. Simply trying to move my Artillery over the land unit or city to "attack" that way results in a no-HP-loss for the enemy, but it still consumes my move.

10. How are what-is-produced-best by cities defined? E.G. keeping all city's production to default/balance, I started to see some pull waay ahead in Science, or Gold, or Production. At that point I would rename them "Chicargo-Sci", and tick their production to mostly be Science, for example. In my next game I would like to set up these specialist cities early in my game so that I can race up the tech tree or raise lots of gold early, but I'm unsure of what affects it.

How do you rename cities?

Also sort of related, in cIV, you could create signs on the map and draw lines. Can you do that in CiV?

What are the settings in the Quick Start (Play now!) ?
Shouldnt it be the latest played settings? I think it doenst work by me :(

11. I am looking for a MOD to put all the civs in their real-world starting place on an earth map. Please can someone help me find one?

12. Which Civilization(s) is in the Delux Edition and not the vanilla Civ V?

^ Ignore this question. It was the Babylonia under Nebuchadnezzar II, I skipped right past them when I was setting up a new game and thought that I didn't get the content.

8. Sorry, never seen this happen in my games, but I don't raze very often.

9. Artillery set up issues have been fully resolved in my game. Set up and bombard buttons are there if I have enough movement for them.

Strikes me that you're having some rather odd issues. I'd suggest running an integrity check on your game files in Steam, and make sure everything is updated properly and not corrupted.

Default/balanced behavior seems to take some level of the state of your empire as a whole into account. If City A randomly chooses to build a university, City B will be more likely to pick a bank as its next build to keep things balanced overall. Once that specialization starts, it can snowball, as further science buildings would do City A and your empire as a whole more good than a low level commerce building. Given time, those can balance back out as cities run out of things to build, unless you step in as you describe to firm up that specialization.

As to map markers, you cannot do that in Civ 5, like you could in Civ 4.

I am allies and connected to a city-state with coal, yet I'm not getting any. It even lists coal in their nearby resources. Is this because they don't have the tech for it yet?

Do they have a mine on the coal? If so, then yes, they do not have the tech yet. You will get the coal when they do, which usually isn't too long.

I don't have Civ V (and don't intend to until RFC comes out for it) but how does multiplayer work with the DLC civilizations? Can you play as say Polynesia when not all players in your game have it?

You can play with the DLC's that all players in the game have.
If everyone has Polynesia, then you can play with Polynesia.

I'm not 100% sure about online play, but in a multiplayer form like a Succession Game there would already be a problem if you just had a civ enabled that someone else doesn't have.

If you have DLC and you start up the game, the game gets tagged as requiring that DLC, even if it's a civ that doesn't appear in the game.

Ways around this are:
*Have the player start up the game who doesn't have DLC the others don't have.
*Go into your game directory, to "Steam\steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization v\assets\DLC" and temporarily remove the DLC files from your game. You can put them back in soon as the starting save has been made.

What does bulb mean? bulbing? bulbable?

I haven't played Civ since Civ 3. When I tried to do a search, most of the listings were for Civ 4, but that doesn't help since I didn't play Civ 4 and Civ 3 didn't have a bulb that I know of.

I ran into bulb as a noun, adjective and gerand, but I can't figure any of them out from context. Help please. :crazyeye:

I THINK it means use a great scientist to discover a tech. This is what it meant in Civ 4 because the button was a bulb.

Thank you, Samson. That makes sense.

Here's a question for the mods... Are you planning to write a FAQs for Civ 5? I see there's one for all the other versions, Civ 1 through Civ 4. That would be ever so helpful. Thank you.

Hi gmaharriet! That would of course be helpful, whether done by a mod or a fan.
Maybe the reason it's not there yet is that it's still early. Checking Civ III's faq, it was written by GingerAle in 2006, that's 4 or 5 years after release of the game - unless there have been earlier versions, I wouldn't know about that.
Many things for Civ 5 are still lacking; there are no individual civ reviews yet, no sticky that explains what a Succession Game is, and until recently the chance you got an answer to your question in 'quick questions and answers' was very slim.
The game is still heavily ploughed over with every patch as well. So it's still early days, although you'd think after a year of Civ 5 more would have been realized.

i'm having an issue that i'm hoping can be realized by you pro's.

sometimes when i give orders to my builders to build a road, they cancel the project the next turn. i can't tell why this is happening. i thought it might have to do with one of my military units passing through the hex but then it seemed to happen also without any traversing through. enemy units within close proximity have seemed to cause this in the past but they are far away currently? not sure how far they have to be and if this is even the cause for sure.

i was going to post a screen shot but it won't let me take one.

thanks in advance! glad you guys are working toward a FAQ, i didn't realize how long it took for it to come together. appreciate it.
