Quick Religion or Quick Infrastructure?

So I've been reading the strategy guides and these forums for the last couple of days and I'm slightly confused on what people feel is the best (under normal circumstances) starting build/tech order.

I've been playing Toku lately with this build order (Warrior, Settler, Worker) and this research order (Mysticism, Polytheism, then either farming, hunting, or animal husbandry depending on what resources I've been dealt). I hear conflicting opinions on either to pop out workers and worker tech ASAP or beeline straight for an early religion.

I figured owning one of the early religions helped considerably by becoming a quick money maker (I normally go for Stonehenge to get a quick Great Prophet) and also have more control and info on my neighbors (get them to convert and get the free peek inside their cities from state religion). With them more inclined to be friendly with me I have more time to set up shop and decide which civ to go after first. All the extra money from the shrine seems to help greatly offset costs from expansion or conquering another nation. Is this strategy outdated or is worker rush have major advantages that I'm not seeing (I know there's chop-rush but I was under the impression that chop-rushing was overrated and also nerfed)?

Worker 1st usually wins out over alternatives. Gunning for religion usually loses.

But you have to think about each situation and decide what is best.

2 things this board has taught me:

1: Build more workers, sooner

2: It's almost never a good idea to go for the first 3 religions, especially without mysticism as a starting tech
