Simply put, what do we want to do with currency? Do we want to sell it for some money, the republic, or hold onto it? We can get the republic pretty cheap from France. They'll sell it to us for currency and 11gpt (we're generating 38gpt). Or if we don't want to trade gpt, we can give 185g in its place (we have 457g). A downside to this is it will send France into the middle ages, which will speed up the other civs' tech acquisition, including the Dutch. What shall we do?

i think we should sell it to the french. it will get us republic which will really help us. the economic and researching increases are really big which will help us win the game. plus, even if the dutch reach the MA, it will still take them like 30 turns to feudalism and it will take them awhile to upgrade. which means, we still will have time to severely weaken the dutch before they get swiss mercenaries. also, having anarchy later, probably during the war would be hard to handle, better get it over before the war.

i thought we would get the republic from the Dutch after we go to war with them. It would be cheaper that way plus France wouldn't get the middle ages then so we would be ahead of them

I'd rather wait a bit, sell it to them later, or see if by the time we think it'll take them to research it, see if we can't beat the Dutch and get Republic from then.

Current trade situation from MapStat:

Currency is still a monopoly tech, Republic is known now by 2 Civs and before long it will be traded further. I do not know whether France or Holland originally reserched Republic - neither have it in the 590BC trade. But if they start on currency now it will be a while before they research it. Obviously I don't know if any of the others are researching it. Either way, if we want to keep the tech pace slow we must not trade Currency while it is still a monopoly (it's against the External Console's policy anyway), OK we won't get so much for it, but then neither will Republic be worth as much. If we're really lucky and time the sale correctly - we may still get monopoly prices for Currency if we can sell it to a Civ that doesn't know the one that has discovered it.

In short, don't sell Currency until we lose that monopoly.

The French are asking too much for Republic. It's not a monopoly tech, whereas Currency is. They should be paying GPT to us for Currency. We should reject France's offer with the disdain it deserves.

I agree with Kentharu. Oh, and welcome to the game and the forums! :wavey:

RegentMan has a good point too: we are not ready for a government switch, so we don't need the tech now. The 11 gpt can be used to build up some cash for rushes and/or upgrades.

We should realy use Currency to gain any techs we dont have. Perferably the Republic. If not, then Feudalism.

After the latest turnchat we need to get rid of currency now. We can get literature for it.

Monotheism is known, the Dutch won't give it up for peace yet.

So lets trade it for what it is worth now. We'll be revolting in around 6 turns and it would be nice to have literature before then.

The tech race will be a little more difficult for a while since we have failed to get Persia, Byzantines , Maya and French into a war. Still needs to be done guys. Better get on with it eh?

trade currency to the french, make our nation better now, we can always destroy them later :satan:  mehmehmehmehmehmehmehmeh!

I say trade it for literature and gpt/gold upfront, and push for Republic/Feudalism from the Dutch. We shouldn't revolt until after the war anyway...and after the most recent turnchat, currency isn't worth that much anymore, so let's get what we can.

We may be able to get Lit. gold and a lux. You never know your luck!
