I've been reading different threads and think it's strange how so many people get all bent out of shape over other people's opinions. Lincoln and MLK and Alexander and Hitler and Bozo... Well whatever, the way I see it, I'm not a racist, and if I am, at least I'm equal opportunity, because I hate everyone.

But seriously, I picture some of my fellow posters sprouting grey hairs when on here... hehehe...

I'm not sure why we takes thing so seriously on a forum devoted to a computer game.

Perhaps the relative anonymity of being on-line allows us to put the tact and politness aside and we post before we think.

I believe you are very correct about anonymity and especially not thinking before we post. However, these are serious issues being discussed, and people do hold very strong views about them and care very deeply about them. This is the Off-Topic forum, specifically NOT about our favorite computer game. You don't have to care about these issues, but that's the beauty of a forum like this, we all get exposed to different folks with different views. Feel free to not participate in heavy discussions (there are several that I ignore completely) if you like, and be as lighthearted as you like. In fact, I would encourage it. Do be careful of being too lighthearted with someone who cares deeply, however. We manage to keep most discussions fairly civil here, and I'd hate for you to get broadsided trying to be funny. It does happen, unfortunately.

EDIT: BTW, I've already got a few grey hairs, and they had nothing to do with this forum

Well we're a very global site, which certainly contributes to the variety in opinion. I like to think that I can have a discussion with ANYONE on ANY topic, no matter how controversial, keep it civil, and come out of it still friends with the other party. I'm very lighthearted as a rule (lightheaded as well

) which can serve you very well when things get heated.

However, I am bothered by people who are overly sensetive and touchy. Not to say I dislike them, but they can really get on my nerves, as someone who takes very little very seriously.

Seriously, I agree about touchy people. If you're going to discuss something someplace like this, you gotta be prepared for folks to disagree, and even strongly. Discuss, disagree, go on with life. (and watch out for marauding Hippos

True true, I was reading one thread, I posted in it a couple times, then I just dropped out and read it as it went along... It ended nicely, but dang... I guess it's the variety eh?

While I'm thick-skinned about a lot of things, I am not so thick-skinned when it comes to racism. I'M not a racist, and I get along people regardless of race, color, etc. I object to ALL forms of racism, not just that involving Blacks and Whites.

I don't recall that I have been rude to anyone on this board at any time. I try to put a lot of effort into being diplomatic when I disagree with someone. If you disagree, then, please accept my humble apologies.

Personally, I think it's easy for some to say that others are being sensitive when the comments don't affect or involve them. Take it from me--it will hurt or anger just a tad, even if you do chalk it up to someone's else's ignorance, if the comments are directed at YOU.

I have experienced quite a bit of racism in my life. It has NOT caused me to hate, or become prejudiced. It HAS caused me to become sensitive to other's thoughts and feelings. What is a joke to some, is not a joke to others, so I go out of my way NOT to offend.

If you don't agree with me, or my views, then, let's simply agree to disagree. It's certainly better than the flaming that I've seen, on occasion.

This tendency to evince "candor" and speak "openly" of others has rendered cyberspace a repository for anger and malice. Everywhere, whether it be in chatrooms, forums, newsgroups, etc., you see (l)users with macho handles like "Castrator", "El Demonio Negro" (I've actually seen that one), "Hellion" - when in reality they'd be the last people you'd expect to assume those names (my alias actually spells out my initials). Needless to say, they pose as heckling bullies to placate their deficient self-esteem. The internet has become a pretty horrid place.

Speak to one online as you would to a stranger in person. Ignore those who can't act in a civilized manner, and, most importantly, don't abrasively offend but don't take crude/light-hearted remarks personally, either... <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/jesus.gif" border=0>

True, true. When I first join these forums, I used to get all-heated up over some of those opinions being posted here. But now, I will just take everything with a pinch of salt.

In real life, you wouldn't find me expressing political opinions with other people (esp of other races). Too troublesome to try a keep a civil discussion.

Everyone has an opinion and when there are loads of people on a site, you are going to get plenty of people that will post on a particular topic...This makes them become longer and attracts other people to post on them. From other forums and this one I have seen that most of the reasons that people post are really just a waste of time because even if people do read them, they rarely respond to them and if they do it is to agree or disagree.

And here i go Crucifying, why the hell would you bring up such a subject, I mean all that is dead and gone, Hitler, Jesus and whatever for God’s sake let it rest, even Joseph Stalin, we had nothing to do with all that, you're just raisin the dead, and any here after bring on a ruin of civ3 by bring’ in up that post, I say shame on you, you should know much better than common in here with old issues, I may be biased on my own skillz but I never bring up past issues. Hitler and Stalin Made mistakes but you never had to walk 2 feet in their shoes now did you?

I am. That is enough. I have all the promise that each day offers to me. I am. The past is nothing but what has brought you here and the future is what you make of today. I am. We are each a force in life.
