Random ideas for government

Systems of government are dependant on the nature of the nation. Ideas without context of a nation(s) generally are meaningless.

When it comes to government, one-size does not fit all.

How about a country whose bureaucracy continuously shrinks while becoming more efficient, all to the disdain of the people?

local goverment with localized rules, while a higher federal system will ensure a cohesiveness and ability to deal with the outside.

people would vote for the local party, knowing the politicos, AND for the national system.
both will be seperate, with the LOCAL system in charge of domestics, while the federal one is in charge of defense, finance, etc.

there will be NO constitution, but rather a set of precedences, similar to english common law.

The Congress or Parliament should be created by lottery, not election.

That is actually not a bad theory. You will never know who will become the next president, and so you will treat everyone carefully and with respect, whether he is the prime minister or the handy man. Simply because he might become president in the next lottery. Similar to the ideas of A Theory of Justice by John Rawls.

If we can trust the common man or woman to render judgement on individuals whonhave commited crimes, it seems to me that we can trust them to serve in the Congress or Parliament for one year terms. At least that way the voice of the comman man will occasionally be heard in the halls of power.

maybe we could go the Big Brother format and we have twelve candidates in one house and rather than voting them out, we blow up the houe making the world a safer place as a result. ;)

Continuing on the BB theme, we could vote them out one by one, until we get the President. With all the phone calls that will be made, the Government would be able to get itself out of debt.

alas, practicality makes me differ with you.
it would be a great thing to be able to run a country via a random proxy, BUT i think that cannot work.
i would never give total power to a novice.
same goes to politics as it does in business.

maybe a directorate type goverment would be better?

we get directors, HIRED by the state, on a merit system, for a short term contract.
if said director did a good job, he gets a raise, a bonous and another term.

how to hire them?

a public commitee that will have strict rules?

Bright day
State should promote Freedom to Work. That working would be personal decision- lodgings in communal halls and basic cardboardy food should be made freely available.

some citys in america are run this way they are called city planners they are hired by vote of the city councilmen and the mayor, the mayor tends to be sybolic doind symbolic duties like opening of new schools and such other than that he is a regular city council member. City Planners are ussually hated because they do what they see as good for the city and this is nearly never dependent on party stances.

The randomness of a lotterry would insure some level of fairness. Maybe enough level of fairness to make everyone happy.

make those obese people that could easily be slim extra tax, an added incentive for them to lose weight.

How about this interesting idea:

In every election, the winner is chosen randomly but weighted based on what percentage of votes he got. If Candidate A receives 60% of the vote and Candidate B receives 40% of the vote, then Candidate A has a 60% chance of winning and Candidate B receives a 40% chance of winning. This method ensures that third parties will eventually get a chance while elections are perfectly fair in the long run.

The only problem is finding a way to get a perfectly random number.

How about a third house where ever voter can vote (online on a U.S. only intranet, proxey proof what have you) ?
