Random Maps in Civ4

there wouldnt be a limit-you could be tradeing alot and need alot- to how much you could collect but yea have strategic resourses only last so long so you have to be doing something with it or you would lose it

The Resourses would still be there but if you didnt use what you had stockpiled after X number of turns it would be lost but this wouldnt matter if you still had control of the resourse

Okay, then this is not quite how I imagined the resources. I imagined that the non-renewable resources would be a finite number, and technology determined how much could be extracted. For example, an oil resource may have between 20,000 and 40,000 units of Oil. Now remember, especially with Oil, you would be using it to fuel every unit, a lot for civil matters. Uranium would be the same way for fueling power plants and building nuclear weapons and doing nuclear research as well as medical applications. Renewable resources would almost never run out, but technology would dictate how much could be extracted. This extends to luxury and bonus resources as well. Resources would be heavily used over time by your citizens. If you stopped extracting form a source, it still has the resource, it doens't disappear.

I like your idea better than my orginal idea but with one minor adjustment- When Reserching any tech dealing with the resourse you have you would get a bonus so if you had Uranium and were reserching Fission or Nuclear Power or any new nuclear weapons techs there might be you would get a bonus dependant on the amount of that Resourse you had

As far as I can see, the random map generator will also be externalized (to python or some .exe), so you can program your own random map generator, where ressources are clustered...
