Something very wierd is happening in my civ games - every game I've started lately (probably the past 10 or so) has always had the Inca, Aztec, Mayans, Americans and usually the Iroquois too. Even when I play as different civs - can anybody explain? Also I always seem to start beside the Aztec and frequently the Inca. I'm getting damn sick of always starting beside them.

Do you have culturally linked starting positions turned on? I believe that option is buggy.

Ya I do.. what exactly does that do anyways/what is it suppose to do?

It places you within a culture group. IE Americas--Mayans, Aztecs, Americans or Europeans--Spain, German, Portugal etc etc

Interesting although this wouldn't explain would it why the bablylonians and french would be beside the aztec and inca tho would it?

The culture linked one is bugged. Whenever it's on, you get the American group.

Ah so the "default rules" that people play by has culture linked off?

I thought 'culturally linked starts' was buggy only if you use random opponents. If you specify who you're playing then it works normally.

Also, here, "Preserve Random Seed" is on for any game that will be judged, although I think the default is off.

The "Culturally linked starting locations" will give you america/maya/iro/aztecs 95% or so of the time, and if not, it will be all medieval europe, or all mesopotamian ancients, or all asians ... you get the point.

As for french and babylonians being beside someone else, I do not think this affects the placement of civs, just their nationalities. "Preserve Random seed" off will have them placed somewhere else next time.

so basicly if u just uncheck the culturally started locations off , then u will not have the americans , mayans and aztecs and iroquios and incas every time or most of the time u start the game next to u right ?????

check it off and you will get truly random opponents

Heh, I only started to improve once I turned preserve random seed back on. Too damn easy to get the 'right' result otherwise.

So if you have 'Preserve Random Seed' off you don't get your game in the Hall of Fame?
I think you get it in the in-game Hall of Fame, but it would be inadmissible for the Civfanatics Hall of Fame.
