Random Rants LXXII - What is wrong with us?

I see what's in that screenshot if I click on "latest post" in a thread and that latest post is by an ignored member. Otherwise, I don't see any posts from people I've ignored, and I don't get notifications from them. If I reload the page having clicked there from "latest post" what's in the screenshot will be gone.

Ignored content for me disappears entirely unless I click Show Ignored Content.

Hmm, are mods allowed to ignore anyone though? I thought you would have to sift through all the sordid content here.

Yes, so if I go to a thread where the last post is by an Ignored Member and click on the timestamp right below where it says the name of whatever poster made the last post in that thread, it shows the thing in that screenshot by @BenitoChavez.

I am curious about how this behavior is happening. Is that how you guys are accessing threads, clicking on that timestamp? If so then the behavior makes sense. If not, idk what's going on.

Why don't they do it? Laziness and apathy. You really think some cashier making minimum wage and hates their job is really going to care about whether or not someone is using a stolen credit card?
It's not as if you could just raise the minimum wage so that it was actually worth working for… wait, you can.
Arakhor ignores everyone. :mischief:
PDMA? One million years' dungeon.

PDMA: Puns Deliberately Made by Arakhor.

Decided to test out the ignore feature for the first time on here. It doesn't do anything. Defeats the point.

I mean, not really though. All it actually does is just put what they say in a spoiler.
The ignore feature is different with XenForo than with vBulletin. As long as you don't click any of the "show ignored content" links, you can carry on with minimal indications that the person you're ignoring even exists.

Ignoring them doesn't mean you won't see when they "like" your posts or when they "like" others' posts. It just means you won't be notified. They will still be listed in the "Likes You've Received" area in your profile.

One reason to be careful of deciding to put someone on ignore is that any threads they start will be invisible on the main OT page. If you weren't ever part of that thread, you won't know it even exists... unless you have your preferences set to email notification of new posts in the forum itself.

Another indication of an ignored post is the post #. If you see #1 and then #3, someone you're ignoring has made post #2. At that point you can decide if you want to know what was said or skip over it.

Given Xenforo's need to emulate social media, it seems logical that it should also emulate how blocking works on social media. That is, total removal of anything from that person.

It depends on if you use it as intended. My ignore list on TrekBBS is lengthy, and dates back years. There are people on it whose existence I had completely forgotten until I reviewed the list a few weeks ago. Whatever posts they made or threads they started are completely invisible to me.

I just responded to a youtube comment because some I don't know and will never meet wrote something stupid and it made me angry.

Sometimes it helps to just vent, no language holds barred.

Some of the arguments I've gotten into on that site during this season of The Handmaid's Tale are spectacularly stupid (you'd think women could count and know that pregnancies take 9 months, but some of the commenters there seem remarkably math-challenged).

GS: be aware that sometime within the next 5-10 years somebody might reply to your post and you'll receive a notification in your email inbox at a probably embarrassing moment.

What's happened this time?

At least now you're home and you can read what I've been up to.

yes, this is the appropriate thread, right?

I've received the occasional notification that someone replied to a comment I made years ago.

Some people are still complaining about stuff I said 3 weeks ago on Handmaid's Tale.

The season finale is this coming week. It's going to be very hard to stay away from spoilers.

Wow, you deleted your post while I was having fun typing that. Did I help? It's good practice for creative writing anyway so it helped on my end, at least.

Edit: don't overthink it, man.
