Rap

I don't like is when lyrics are degenerating, promote violent or use cursing (and still played publically). F!@# this, F!@# that is fine if only heard only by adults who want to hear it, but I see this type of thing played too often publically with children present.
I see it played too often by children. And I can only make out about one word in four and it's still the sort of thing that would have been banned quite recently.

*sigh*

rap is so sucky. It needs a revolution so we can notice these hypothetical "good rappers" who actually make lyrics you can distinguish from noise.

I like electronic music, especially rap (the mainstream stuff---yes, I admit the lyrics are often shallow, but the energizing beats make up for them). I'd have to say Nelly is the best. Other notables are Ludacris and Eminem for their sense of humor, Chingy for his great first album (although his sophomore one is godawful), and Lil' Jon for his trademark yelling.

Wrong. Plain and simple. As I already posted in this thread, I used to like rap very much. I made my own, and it was easy. All you need as a computer with a beats program, really. I made one song, and when I played it to people (Who didn't knew that I had made it my self) would often guess it was something I had actually paid for.
Later I tried to make Heavy Metal, but stopped because my voice wasn't good enough, and I simply didn't have the skills. Any chimp can become an ok rapper with a little training. (Yes, it's easy to freestyle when you train it) The same cannot be said about Metal.

I know there's different subgenres in rap, used to like The Roots alot because their mix with rap and jazz was good. But overall, rap in no where near the diversity of Metal. And mostly, neither near the musical quality.

If you think you were decent thats your opinion. I doubt I would have felt the same way as I rarely like an artist with such a simplistic view of how to make a song. So what if it sounded like something you paid for. You can pay for crap in both genres and fans of both genres can have bad taste. No one is going to confuse you with a Cannibus or a Biggie Smalls. Yes and my cousin is in a band and you can't tell him from half the stuff you can buy either.

As far as musical quality goes thats really just a matter of taste. Metal singers have some of the worste voices I have ever heard. I don't really see how metal is so much more diverse especially considering how the moods of metal songs are so limited. Most bands use the same general instruments and are more limited in terms of what sounds they use in their music. If I get off work am in a bad mood I can choose rap or metal. If I want to go our have drinks and dance, well not so much metal. If I wanna lay back and hear chill beat, not so much metal. If I wanna laugh and hear something witty, not so much metal. Metal is just not as versatile.

Also wrong. Im drunk and I'll be busy to morrow, but I'll explain why you're wrong sunday.

I came home from a pary or christmas lunch you might call it, and I started listening to Rammstein, it's very relaxing, I even painted a picture.

BTW if my post is confusing it's becourse I'm slightly drunk.

Actually a remix of a Tool song got quite popular some years ago in some discos.

Here we go, as promissed:

Which Metal singers was that? Try listening to Nightwish, Dio or Within Temptation, and then admit how wrong you are.

Not true at all. First of all, Metal employes nearly all instruments. The most common are of course guitar, drums, base and keyboard, but Metal is very made very similar to classical music, which is seen by the many Metal bands that employs classical instruments and eevn choirs.
Secondly, the mood is not limited at all. Try compare the mood of a Black Metal band like Lord Belial, to the mood of the Symphonic Metal band Rhapsody. They're as different as they can get.

And the "Metal only" people say the samething about rap, you know... I guess both of you are still fixed in your stereotype view of eachtother.

And not so much rap either. If I wanna relax, I listen to classical, if I wanna chill, I listen to Reagae. Neither Metal, nor rap is good at that stuff (And yes, I know the "chill rap" and all, but it's just inferior in "chillness" compared to Reagae.

Also not true. What do you think Satanic Metal is all about? Hail Satan, he will drink my blood, aaaa, Im evil and I like doooooom"
How can you not laugh of that?

So you can dance to Metal?
Of course. There's even a genre called Tanz Metal (Dance Metal). Generally, Metal dancing is more about energy and fun, rather than fakearse additude dance, "done to impress tha ladies and tha haters with 'em gangsta moves"

But know you, there is no genre in Music which is versatile enough to suit as all purposes as good, as a mix of many can do. Here's how I play music to suit my purpose:

- Im angry at something, but I cant do much about it (Used to feel like that against a certain teacher in High School). In this case I listen to rap. Punk Rock or Nu-Metal could do the same thing, but it just sounds bad to me.

- Im relaxed and I want to hear something beautiful. I listen to Classical, movie soundtracks or even Chinese music.

- Im chilled. I listen to Reagae or Ska.

- Im going to fight for something, and I want to win. Im going to accomplish something etc. I listen to Metal or certain Classical.

- Im in "lala land" I listen to easy going oldschool pop such as Roxette, or easy going Hard Rock such as Deep Purple.

These are just examples, of how different genres is better at certain things. Of course, all genres have more purposes than those I've listed.

Very easily. I'll roll my eyes and leave.

I really don't like rap at all.
But I do think that Eminem is really good at lyrics.
