Rap

Actually, France is the world's second biggest rap market, behind the USA.
So, err, maybe you need to find another country ? That shouldn't be hard ;)

I can listen to some rap. Dre, Snoop, Tupac, Wu-Tang Clan and 50 Cents mostly.

Top rap artists are actually secretly sponsored by hard liquor and luxery car corporations, that's why there are so many plugs. ;)

Except for Nas, he certainly is not "deep" though and is a little full of himself and his lyrical quality is... (well judge for yourself)

Jesus died at age 33, there's thirty-three shots
from twin glocks there's sixteen apiece, that's thirty-two
Which means, one of my guns was holdin 17
Twenty-seven hit your crew, six went into you
Everybody gotta die sometime; hope your funeral
never gets shot up, bullets tear through the innocent
Nothin is fair, n***az roll up, shootin from wheelchairs
My heart is racin, tastin revenge in the air
I let the s*** slide for too many years, too many times
Now I'm strapped with a couple of macs, too many nines
If y'all n**gaz really wit me get busy load up the semis
Do more than just hold it explode the clip until you empty
There's nothin in our way - they bust, we bust, they rust, we rust
Led flyin, feel it? I feel it in my gut
THAT WE TAKE THESE B**CHES TO WAR, LIE 'EM DOWN
CAUSE WE STRONGER NOW MY N**** THE TIME IS NOW!!
Is this supposed to be deep? Someone please enlighten me as to the relation between Jesus (and his turn the other cheek philosophy) and the number of bullets penetrating into one' adversaries?

Jay-Z is alright (though he sure is ugly).

I agree that rap is highly emotive and less whiny than "alternative" but most of it is still not positive.

It is the most energetic music out there and I think that is why it is popular. It may be mostly lacking in creativity but it has energy.

I'd say 95% of rappers out there have very little talent and should go back to the "streets" and keep quiet. But then again the applies to all genres and of course this will never change as long as 95% of the population has poor taste. :)

Here's some lyrics to some good rap. Namely, Tupac.

Tupac said:
Little somethin for my godson Elijah and a little girl named Corinne

[Verse One:]

Some say the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice
I say the darker the flesh then the deeper the roots
I give a holler to my sisters on welfare
Tupac cares, and don't nobody else care
And uhh, I know they like to beat ya down a lot
When you come around the block brothas clown a lot
But please don't cry, dry your eyes, never let up
Forgive but don't forget, girl keep your head up
And when he tells you you ain't nuttin don't believe him
And if he can't learn to love you you should leave him
Cause sista you don't need him
And I ain't tryin to gas ya up, I just call em how I see em
You know it makes me unhappy (what's that)
When brothas make babies, and leave a young mother to be a pappy
And since we all came from a woman
Got our name from a woman and our game from a woman
I wonder why we take from our women
Why we rape our women, do we hate our women?
I think it's time to kill for our women
Time to heal our women, be real to our women
And if we don't we'll have a race of babies
That will hate the ladies, that make the babies
And since a man can't make one
He has no right to tell a woman when and where to create one
So will the real men get up
I know you're fed up ladies, but keep your head up

[Chorus]

Keep ya head up, oooo child things are gonna get easier
ooooo child things are gonna get brighter [2x]

[Verse Two:]

Aiyyo, I remember Marvin Gaye, used to sing ta me
He had me feelin like black was tha thing to be
And suddenly tha ghetto didn't seem so tough
And though we had it rough, we always had enough
I huffed and puffed about my curfew and broke the rules
Ran with the local crew, and had a smoke or two
And I realize momma really paid the price
She nearly gave her life, to raise me right
And all I had ta give her was my pipe dream
Of how I'd rock the mic, and make it to tha bright screen
I'm tryin to make a dollar out of fifteen cents
It's hard to be legit and still pay tha rent
And in the end it seems I'm headin for tha pen
I try and find my friends, but they're blowin in the wind
Last night my buddy lost his whole family
It's gonna take the man in me to conquer this insanity
It seems tha rain'll never let up
I try to keep my head up, and still keep from gettin wet up
You know it's funny when it rains it pours
They got money for wars, but can't feed the poor
Say there ain't no hope for the youth and the truth is
it ain't no hope for tha future
And then they wonder why we crazy
I blame my mother, for turning my brother into a crack baby
We ain't meant to survive, cause it's a setup
And even though you're fed up
Huh, ya got to keep your head up

[Chorus]

[Verse Three:]

And uhh
To all the ladies havin babies on they own
I know it's kinda rough and you're feelin all alone
Daddy's long gone and he left you by ya lonesome
Thank the Lord for my kids, even if nobody else want em
Cause I think we can make it, in fact, I'm sure
And if you fall, stand tall and comeback for more
Cause ain't nuttin worse than when your son
wants to kno why his daddy don't love him no mo'
You can't complain you was dealt this
hell of a hand without a man, feelin helpless
Because there's too many things for you to deal with
Dying inside, but outside you're looking fearless
While tears, is rollin down your cheeks
Ya steady hopin things don't all down this week
Cause if it did, you couldn't take it, and don't blame me
I was given this world I didn't make it
And now my son's getten older and older and cold
From havin the world on his shoulders
While the rich kids is drivin Benz
I'm still tryin to hold on to my survivin friends
And it's crazy, it seems it'll never let up, but
please... you got to keep your head up

[girl]
Oh-hahhh
[2Pac]
Stuck in the game
Me against the world baby

[Verse One: 2Pac]

Can you picture my prophecy?
Stress in the city, the cops is hot for me
The projects is full of bullets, the bodies is droppin
There ain't no stoppin me
Constantly movin while makin millions
Witnessin killings, leavin dead bodies in abandoned buildings
Carries to children cause they're illin
Addicted to killin and the appeal from the cap peelin
Without feelin, but will they last or be blasted?
Hard headed bastard
Maybe he'll listen in his casket -- the aftermath
More bodies being buried -- I'm losing my homies in a hurry
They're relocating to the cemetary
Got me worried, stressin, my vision's blurried
The question is will I live? No one in the world loves me
I'm headed for danger, don't trust strangers
Put one in the chamber whenever I'm feelin this anger
Don't wanna make excuses, cause this is how it is
What's the use unless we're shootin no one notices the youth
It's just me against the world baby

[girl]
Me against the world

It's just me against the world

[girl]
I got nothing to lose

[Verse Two: Dramacydal]

Could somebody help me? I'm out here all by myself
See ladies in stores, Baby Capone's, livin wealthy
Pictures of my birth on this Earth is what I'm dreamin
Seein Daddy's semen, full of crooked demons, already crazy
and screamin I guess them nightmares as a child
had me scared, but left me prepared for a while
Is there another route? For a crooked Outlaw
Veteran, a villian, a young thug, who one day shall fall

Everday there's mo' death, and plus I'm dough-less
I'm seein mo' reasons for me to proceed with thievin
Scheme on the scheming and leave they peeps grieving
Cause ain't no bucks to stack up, my nuts is backed up
I'm bout to act up, go load the Mac up, now watch me klacka
Tried makin fat cuts, but yo it ain't workin
And Evil's lurking, I can see him smirking
when I gets to pervin, so what?
Go put some work in, and make my mail, makin sales
Risking 25 with a 'L', but oh well

[girl]
Me against the world
[2Pac]
With nuttin to lose
It's just me against the world
[girl]
Ooh yeah.. oooh-ooooh
[2Pac]
It's just me against the world baby
[girl]
Me against the world
[2Pac]
I got nuttin to lose
It's just me against the world
[girl]
Oahhhohh
[2Pac]
Ha ha
It's just me against the world baby
[girl]
Ha-ahh, HA-AHH!
[2Pac]
With nuttin to lose
It's just me against the world baby
[girl]
Me against the world, hoahhh
[2Pac]
Me against the world
I got nuttin to lose
It's just me against the world baby
[girl]
Ha-hahh (hehe) heyy!

[Verse Three: 2Pac]

With all this extra stressin
The question I wonder is after death, after my last breath
When will I finaly get to rest? Through this supression
they punish the people that's askin questions
And those that possess, steal from the ones without possesions
The message I stress: to make it stop study your lessons
Don't settle for less - even the genius asks-es questions
Be grateful for blessings
Don't ever change, keep your essence
The power is in the people and politics we address
Always do your best, don't let the pressure make you panic
And when you get stranded
And things don't go the way you planned it
Dreamin of riches, in a position of makin a difference
Politicians and hypocrites, they don't wanna listen
If I'm insane, it's the fame made a brother change
It wasn't nuttin like the game
It's just me against the world

[girl]
Me against the world
[2Pac]
Nuttin to lose
It's just me against the world baby
[girl]
Me against the world
[2Pac]
Got me stuck in the game
It's just me against the world
[girl]
Oahahhhh
[2Pac]
I'd be ashamed to lose
It's just me against the world baby
[girl]
Me against the world

[Outro: 2Pac]

Heh, hahahahahahah
That's right
I know it seem hard sometimes but uhh
Remember one thing
Through every dark night, there's a bright day after that
So no matter how hard it get, stick your chest out
Keep your head up, and handle it

[girl]
Me against the world [3X]

The lyrics may look awkward when you read them, but he makes them sound good and flow.

What ever happened to the early 80s rap that spoke out against violance and racial individuality?

Rap nowadays is not music, but people are afraid to admit that outta fear of 'offending a lifestyle'.

Groan. I hate it. There may be some good rap out there, but most of it is so, so, so sucky that I can't stand it.

TRUE STORY:
At my school the teacher used to play music in class. Some nutcase of a whiny, stereotyped "gangsta boy" demanded that we listen to rap one day. After *three* tracks, I couldn't hear a difference. It was muffled cursing, lots of background beat, and a complete lack of anything remotely worth listening to. Now the teacher was one of those "respect diversity" types who wouldn't condemn Hitler, so... eventually about ten of got together, removed the offending cd, plugged out the cd player, removed it to another classroom, and hid the cord. At that point the teacher got the hint that none of us liked it and we didn't give a spoon for someone who played rap music, even if they did consider themself do be a member of a discriminated and disadvantaged minority.

Sucks to be rap. (Which, incidentally, is the Norwegian word for belching loudly. Not much difference ;) )

I double hate it :cringe: , but can stand to watch it less :vomit: .

I like some rap, but I hate what British performers do to it.

Bah, metal lyrics, that's something worth listening to:

You are a loser and it's such a shame
That you're a fool and you don't know
That Im a Viking I'll walk all over you
And by my sword you will die

:D

Metal lyrics? You mean

Satan is my lord!
I hold the bloody sword of the warriooor!
Grunt, Grunt (the sound a horny male pig makes)

Kinda similar to Rap lyrics actually...

I'm a bad boy
Pullin' the trigger ******
Shake the booty!

Metalheads and HipHopers should have a big meeting ... and then someone should turn on the gas!

Metal is so diverse that it's impossible to make any valid generalisation. What you described would probably be Black Metal, but using that to describe the whole Metal genre, would be a foolish act of ignorance and prejudice.

You could say the same thing about rap. People who really do know about it and don't just listen to the mainstream garbage would consider most of these criticisms to be foolish acts of ignorance. But if your going to judge rap that way then it shouldn't be suprising for other genres to be judged the same way. Regardless of what anyone says about rap no one in any other genre can compete with a good rap lyracist. A good rapper can sit down and rap about anything on the spot and make it sound good. The focus is more about style and delivery.

I used to like it, but now I really do not.
It gets so old, it actually brainwashes you to think that the singers are low-life, pitiful, morons that do nothing but brag about the damn 23” rims on their cars. :p

Wrong. Plain and simple. As I already posted in this thread, I used to like rap very much. I made my own, and it was easy. All you need as a computer with a beats program, really. I made one song, and when I played it to people (Who didn't knew that I had made it my self) would often guess it was something I had actually paid for.
Later I tried to make Heavy Metal, but stopped because my voice wasn't good enough, and I simply didn't have the skills. Any chimp can become an ok rapper with a little training. (Yes, it's easy to freestyle when you train it) The same cannot be said about Metal.

I know there's different subgenres in rap, used to like The Roots alot because their mix with rap and jazz was good. But overall, rap in no where near the diversity of Metal. And mostly, neither near the musical quality.

I love rap. The music (without lyrics) itself is awesome.

I don't like is when lyrics are degenerating, promote violent or use cursing (and still played publically). F!@# this, F!@# that is fine if only heard only by adults who want to hear it, but I see this type of thing played too often publically with children present.

I like jay-z, 50 cents,nelly and EMINEM!
Eminem's music is different from othe rapers
Here's a lyric

Just Lose It
>> Eminem

{*Eminem making sounds*}
Okay
Guess who's back, back again
Shady's back, tell a friend
Now everyone report to the dance floor
To the dance floor, to the dance floor
Now everyone report to the dance floor
Alright stop! Pajama time

Come here little kiddies, on my lap
Guess who's back with a brand new rap
And I don't mean rap as in a new case of child investigation accusation
Aah aah aah aah aah
No worries, poppa's got a brand new bag of toys
What else could I possibly do to make noise?
I done touched on everything, but little boys
That's not a stab at Michael
That's just a metaphor, I'm just psycho
I go a little bit crazy sometimes
I get a little bit out of control with my rhymes
Good God, dip, do a little slide
Bend down, touch your toes and just glide
Up the center of the dance floor
Like teepee from my bunghole in the school if you let one go
Nobody's gonna know who'd hear it
Give a little "poot poot", it's ok {*Fart sound*}
Oops my cd just skipped
And everyone just heard you let one rip

CHORUS
Now I'm gonna make you dance
It's your chance
Yeah boy shake that ass
Whops I mean girl, girl girl girl
Girl you know you're my world
Alright now lose it (Aah aah aah aah aah)
Just lose it (Aah aah aah aah aah)
Go crazy (Aah aah aah aah aah)
Oh baby (Aah aah)
Oh baby baby (Aah aah)

It's Friday and it's my day
Used to party all the way to Sunday
Maybe till Monday, I don't know what day
Everyday's just a holiday
Crusin' on the freeway
Feelin' kinda breezy
Get the top down, let my hair blow
I don't know where I'm goin'
All I know is when I get there someone's gonna "touch my body"
Excuse me miss, I don't mean to sound like a jerk
But I'm feel just a little stressed out from work
Could you punch me in the stomach and pull my hair
Spit on me, maybe gouge my eyes out (Ewww)
Now what's your name girl?
What's your sign?
[Dr. Dre] Man, you must be up out your mind
[Eminem] Dre (aah aah)
Dear God goes blind
I'm just trying to unwind, now I'm...

Chorus

It's Tuesday and I'm locked up
I'm in jail and I don't know what happened
They say I was running butt naked
down the street screaming... (Aah aah aah aah aah)
Well I'm sorry, I don't remember
All I know is this much
I'm not guilty
They said save it 'fore we catch you on tape
Now an old lady, touch my body
Now this is the part where the rap breaks down
It's really intense, no one makes a sound
Everything looks like it's "8 Mile" now
The beat comes back and everybody lose yourself and
snap back to reality look it's B Rabbit
And you signed me up to battle?
I'm a grown man
Chuba chuba chuba chuba chuba chuba chuba
I don't have any lines to go right here so
Chuba chuba chuba fellas what? fellas what?
Grab you left nut, make right one jealous what?
Black girls, white girls, skinny girls, fat girls, tall girls, small girls
I'm calling all girls
Everyone report to the dance floor
It's your chance for a little romentor
Butt squeezin' it's the season
Just go... (aah aah aah aah)
It's so appealing

Chorus

Mmmmm touch my body
Mmmmm touch my body
Ooh boy just touch my body
I mean girl just touch my body

I'm sorry for michael jackson!I'm hearing it now!
