Rap

Rap and "hip hop" are two very different things.

Rap is good, hip hop is not.

Now trance, jungle, drum and bass etc. THAT is good stuff.

Rap's self enpowering attitude is a good balance to the emerging punk rock which says life sucks and everything hates me.

YES!

I agree completely.

I love R n B, rap is good only in moderation with other styles of music...I must say it beats music made by a much of white dudes who got mad at society and started shouting “evening is bad...I hate my life so I grow my hair this long...blah blah..blah.”

i think hiphop is like all other kinds of music

5% good, the rest mostly pure crap

some of that 5% i listen, but generally speaking im more into rock n roll and punk rock

ps. punk rock isnt about "life sucks, pity me", i think youre(immortal) refering to that crappy corporate version, like good charlotte (really a boyband, campouflaged as punk ,so they wont look like total dorks)

Being from " Da Bronx " and a total urban whiteboy I've got an intresting prospective on rap/hip hop or whatever it's called this year.

It went from the sugar hill gang talking about funny tasteing food at a friends house to the fat boys who were just comical, along with kid and play.

Around 87 gangster began to come into the light, talking about drugs, money and 'bangin. NWA and others fill this spot. It brought to light many of the problems of the inner city youth, things like poverty, lack of education and racial tension.

In the 90's there was the whole west coast/east coast split with tupac and biggie smalls drama being a classic example. You also had artists like snoop dogg and the wu tang clan come out, pushing the envalope.

Since then rap has... well it's gone pop. Most guys put out there first album talking about how they bust caps and sell the yeyo( cocaine ). The second almub or even the third if they busted a lot of caps and sold a lot of coke, they are talking about there money and all that playa bull@#$%. It's become commerical, normal and just plain flat.

I personally like it, but very, very little. I prefer gangster to hip hop, east coast to west coast.

75% of rap is good.
I agree. I personally like all types of music, even some classical. But I like it. However when it's combined with rock it's really cool!

I very much dislike rap. And generally people who like rap very much dislike me. (If anyone is British then I mean townies/chavs).

I hate it now, but I have to say that Eminem's Marshall Mathers LP album was the first CD I ever got, and really got me into music.

My musical evolution-
Rap>Punk>Rock>Metal

/me feels the urge of genocide he talked about just a while ago.

/me starts rampaging and killing random rap-lovers.

Sorry, guys, nothing personnal, rap did it to me :D

But i still like the other
But what will it be next?

I disagree with Immortal. I believe Hip-hop is good whilst rap is not as good as hip hop .. if that makes any sense.

I'm a fan of Eminem (this is what I class as hip hop by the way), Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent... That 'group' of rappers (but I don't really like Tupac) and D12 and G Unit as well. The beats behind the lyrics are becoming pretty hardkore which is good to hear. (Without Me - Eminem is a favourite of mine when the subwoofer is switched on :D ) That said, I also find most rap lyrics catchy. I love the way that the rhymes are put together, it does take a lot of skill. Especially freestylers amaze me (seen 8 Mile? I know they're not actually freestyling but some can just like that... Eminem is actually a very talented freestyler in his own right)

Yes, I am a self-confessed 'wigga'. That said, I too have a broad taste in music. Even country, classical, nearly any style I like some pieces from it.

I Like rap very much, some of it is a bit boring but most of it is great...

I don't like it, i prefer metal ;)

I like some rap not all. Ill admit i don't know whats most of their the name except for Eminem, some of its pretty catchy, but saying that I don't own any Rap album.

When it coems to the music it is a matter of taste, I might like some and dislike some more. I don't own a single rap or hip-hop CD, though.

But many of the "lyrics" of those "gangstas" are downright ridiculous. Though not as ridiculous as the 15-year-old middle class boys here in Germany who listen to 50 Cent and think they'd be gangstas. And that that would be something positive in the first place...

I hate some rappers. Especially those who don't even talk very fast, like Kanye West. I can easily talk as fast and faster than he does in half his songs. (and I have listened to his album) Most rap is merging into one formula with a simple drum beat and some guy with a tough sounding voice talking. Good rappers include Eminem and Outkast. The only problem is that Eminem is homophobic, again like most rappers.

Simply put-Only excellently made rap is worth listening too, and most mainstream rappers are pure bull****.
